  1. This advanced program does have a lot of hours in it, but it seems all the training is between 60 and 80% effort/HR This goes against the previous posts where it was said to do less with more intensity ie > 80% effort/HR what gives ? Can one really expect to perform well at a race when the racepace is going to be well above 80% with a training program like the above ?
  2. First and foremost you are going to have to get some proper handcleaner and a nailbrush to clean off the grit and grime and get those nails shiny white again.
  3. Guys VERY cool responses. Im gonna try both the rennies and the eno theories seperately and if that doesnt work then try the rennies/enos with rehydrate and see if that makes a difference. Looking forward to racing again with this newfound knowledge.
  4. Many a thread about this excact issue. My 2c worth. Go tubeless and you will never look back. One final note on tubeless. Buy proper tubeless tires (and dont use a normal tire as tubeless) otherwise you might have endless problems of tires burping, sidewall cuts, rolling off your rims etc. the normal tires just dont have the sidewall thickness to handle all of this the above problems can be averted with proper tubeless tires. There are many available, but for a bulletproof fast rolling tyre there is only one: the maxxis crossmark LUST. Ask anyone who has had them on their bikes. they rule.
  5. Conti GatorSkinz Rule. Two thumbs up. Nothing comes close....as a one tire fits all.
  6. I Fly Have you any comments or response to the new speed kings that you have tested ?
  7. I have found that no matter the cadence I still cramp. I have tried the high candence race - Cramp. I have tried the low cadence race - Cramp. I have tried the high intensity - less mileage training. Cramp. I have tried the low intensity -more mileage training. Cramp. I have tried Slowmag/ crampstop etc etc . Cramp. So it seems that If you are going to cramp you are going to cramp. One thing I can say about cramping is that generally when I cramp I get off the bike and stretch for a short while just to get the cramp out. Then when i feel another cramp coming on, I stand up and pedal standing for a while and that seems to help to prevent my legs cramping again. This seems to stretch the muscles a bit and supports the idea that cyclists stay in one position for too long.. I do however cramp only one specific muscle in my legs and normally my left leg starts first. It is the mucle between your hammie and your quads close to the knee on the inside of the leg. I will try the Eno's test next. will see how that will work out.
  8. Ditto on the previous post. Also tried the raleigh and the scott and preferred the scott ride and handling.
  9. ..and heres what i'm wondering about: 1. ? 2. ? Seems old-timers disease is really kicking in fast here.
  10. There was an excellent 10 week program on Bicycling website to complete a fast century about 3 months ago. Look for that program and start either at the 3rd week seeing theres only 8 weeks left. Good Luck. heres some links to those training programs. Although these links are for 100Miles and not 100Km's the principle is still the same. preparing for your First Century http://www.bicycling.com/article/0,6610,s1-4-41-324-1,00.html Fast Century http://www.bicycling.com/article/1,6610,s1-4-41-16114-1,00.html

  12. We just don't.
  13. Popeye You can set your watch up to start with the % at all times. Ive got a 725x and this is how to do it.. connect your watch to your pc with IR (or whatever). On your protrainer software go to tools/edit polar product settings. Then choose the Exercises tab. Select the exercise you want to edit and click the edit button. On the general tab youl see a calculation method and a dropdown box. select the "% of max HR" option save and youre good to go.
  14. When in doubt read the manual. But for those not willing or able to do that here are the answers.. 1. when you press the red action button once the watch starts to pick up the heart rate and are ready for you to start the timer. in this mode when you press the right bottom button and hold it, you can cycle through the bike1, bike 2 cycle and speed off functions. 2. After the timer has started and you are now recording hr/ speed/ cadence etc, you can press the lower right button (and hold it) and this will cycle the %max HR, and actual HR. That way you can set it to show either beats per minute or percentage.
  15. Prepsol Yeah Prepsol is the bees knees. Apply it with a brush to your frame, chain, wheels, spokes and especially your disk rotors, leave for about 10seconds to 1 minute, hose off with water and you are done. You will not believe how your bike will shine and all this takes less than 5 minutes to clean the bike. Your tires will look brand new and black and shiny. Prepsol works exceptionally well on chains. either method can be used. shake it in a bottle for a deep clean or just apply with toothbrush and rinse off on the bike. Your chain will be sparkling in no time. One word of caution..prepsol is extremely strong so after you have cleaned your chain with it, you HAVE to lube it. Dont wait for an hour or two or even a day and then lube it. your chain will have no lube on it and being wet from the rinsing it WILL start to rust (specially in the western cape). Also take care in the areas where there are bearings like the hubs, BB and pedals. Prepsol will strip these of lubrication in no time. it is potent stuff. Happy cleaning. Your bike will love you for it.CaptainDura2007-09-14 03:27:49
  16. Well you could put it in the condom to give yourself some girth. That way it will serve a dual purpose....just remember to wear your hr belt as well...
  17. I use a polar 725 and cannot function without it. It can be used for running or cycling (or any other event that gets your heartrate up) is waterproof so it can even be used while swimming. It is one of those purchases that keeps on giving. I can honestly advise to buy the polar.
  18. Bad luck Fanie. Jy kan jou betaling bewys aan hulle stuur saam met jou pa sn en hulle sal jou refund. Moenie so stres oor die R190 nie.CaptainDura2007-09-10 04:02:04
  19. Entered today. Did anyone order the Powerade Training Manual by Andrew Mclean as well? Is it worth the money? I see that it includes training for the argus and also for the Epic...
  20. Yeah, mortons neuroma can be cured via: Changes in footwear. Avoid high heels or tight shoes, and wear wider shoes with lower heels and a soft sole. This enables the bones to spread out and may reduce pressure on the nerve, giving it time to heal. Orthoses. Custom shoe inserts and pads also help relieve irritation by lifting and separating the bones, reducing the pressure on the nerve. Injection. One or more injections of a corticosteroid medication can reduce the swelling and inflammation of the nerve, bringing some relief. So point one is out for obvious reasons. Point 2 is the inserts that im gonna try. Point 3 is what i will try if point 2 fails.....
