  1. whats the diff between the aksiums and the shimano wh550's apart from the obvious spoke issue ? weight and price difference. maintainability ? reliability ?
  2. Just saw the weight of the scott spark... 2008 Scott Spark Ltd:. Weight Bike: 20.59 lbs (9.35 kg) The frame alone is 1.55kg's Now that is light and Scott guarantees their frames (includes racing) for 5 years. 9.35 for a ds. wow. It would probably go up to 9.7 or so with stans and some decent ust tires. Still light.
  3. It is difficult to believe that a full carbon fibre frame and rear triangle can weigh that much. One should think it would be much lighter than that.
  4. Marius I think your frame is the problem here..that scalpel frame is much lighter than your frame.
  5. I think a lot of dirt riders on the hub used squirt for a long time, me included, but it just does not last long enough on your epic mtb rides of 50 km or longer if there are any water involved. A quick stop and relube is normally required and it does work very well when it is applied. I have changed to WhiteLightning epic as it lasts a little longer in the wet. I must give that progold prolink a chance at some stage.
  6. Having marshalls within each group is a very good idea. It is probably the only way that the littering and illegal riding is going to stop.
  7. I still wanna know what happened to that ellsworth frame ? You gonna tell us or what ?
  8. A friend of mine was knocked off his bike on monday morning in tableview opposite the Kentucky. The driver came from behind and turne into the parking area right in front of the guy and took him out. Luckily he did not land under the wheels and only incurred minor injuries but it could have been much worse. The stupid driver afterwards shrugged his shoulders and said he had his indicators on. These accidents are ocurring almost on a daily basis now. When is it going to be adressed ?
  9. Thats why carbon bikes and parts are better....its easier to pick up.
  10. There is no best saddle. Only whats best for YOU and your behind. Everyones different.
  11. cycles direct in tableview might have some, or should be able to get as they stock specialized products.
  12. there was a thread about this not too long ago https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=16294&KW=hotspot&PID=246226#246226 The short of it is to get metatarsal pads in most cases.
  13. Is this on your mtb or raod bike chain ?
  14. White lightning is sh*te for anything offroad. Just doesnt work at all. For the roadbike it is priceless. Keeps the drivetrain very cleen, very quiet and its very easy to apply. My road chain has done 3500km with white lightning and it is still not even close to being worn. (>12 inches) That said I do clean it religiuosly with a rag every week and reapply the white lightning. 5 minute job and everybody's happy. On the mtb front i suppose oil works the best although i use squirt. its just cleaner than oil with less gunk and build up. I do however have had to relube in mudraces like stellenbosch 07 and karoo to coast. I reckon the water and mud gets rid of the squirt more easily than oil and the chain begins to moan and groan and shortly after that you will get chainsuck. and man does that suck.
  15. When replacing old pads with new pads the caliper needs to be depressed back in because the new pads are much thicker obviously. So when you spin your wheel the first couple of times without depressing the caliper in the pads will touch your wheel. After a very short while though just by using the brakes the calipers will compress far enough so the wheel can spin freely, if that makes any sense at all.
  16. Crossmax Sl/SLr are durable and strong. They are completely servicable and they are very light. what more do you need ?
  17. Burger administration informed me that there will be NO substitutions on this race. They have no people even assigned to the job so it is not going to happen. They reckon that they are oversubscribed on entries (only have made arrangements for 5000 and they are on 6500) So NO late entries and NO substitutions. So as the saying goes "when you snooze you loose" bummer for me and all the rest that did.
  18. I have the same experience on the gators. Have had them on as training tyres for 4 months now and not 1 puncture. That is priceless in my book. The gp4000 I use for the races and they have a little better ride quality but not as good puncture resistance as I punctured on the Argus with the 4000. The ride quality of the gators are really good and they stick to the road really well and as i mentioned they do not puncture (easily).
  19. It seems I was sleeping and let the Burger entries close before I could enter. Seeing the entries are now closed the only way to ride is to buy one from someone that is already entered and do a name change. If anyone knows of or has a Burger entry that is not going to be used, please let me know asap.
  20. It is definitely more forgiving ride. Meaning the carbon absorbs more of the trail-rattle although it is stiffer when pedalling hard and the steering is more precise.
  21. they fit between the 105 and wh500 wheelsets. About 1.9 kg and are called WH-RS10/20
  22. het opgeskuif van G na F. Nou is daar Nog meer hubbers in F.
  23. You can also contact jaco at Cycle Maintenance Centre in Plattekloof. CMC stocks and Jaco rides the cranks and has only good things to say about it.
  24. Saddles are a very personal thing. But it seems that there are less people that can actually sit on and enjoy the selle italia slr's I personally had an slr xp on the mtb and tried it for about four months and as a previous poster stated "desperately wanted to like it" but alas it was not to be. anything longer than about 2 hours and I was in serious pain. sold it and got myself a Fizik Gobi and it was instant pleasure. no more hotspots and no more pain. The Gobi is more of a hammock type saddle that is longer and more rounded with more positions. The slr is very flat with one position to sit. I guess it all depends on the structure of your sitbones.
