  1. I went from carbon hardtail to alu fullsusser and can honestly say: I felt a huge difference.
  2. Maybe hijacking this thread a bit, but JOHAN, when is your next suspension course in cape town, AND will it include both the front and rear shock ? As i reckon the back shock needs as much services as the front one And lastly when will you have all the seals and washers ready for us,
  3. what about the oil and shock fluid for the shocks. (both fox and rockshox). is that freely available.
  4. go to all the pawn shops in that immediate area. you are very likely to find it there.
  5. turning ? left or right ?
  6. was that measured from the middle of the pin or the front of the pin. if it was the front of the pin then that chain is outside of the norm and should have been replaced already a while ago.
  7. sent u a pm
  8. I started weight training last monday. did 4 sets of calves. couldnt walk for a week. my calves are still tender when i lightly touch them with my finger. Moral of the story is : START SLOWLY !!!
  9. Same here. the nobby nic gives you tremendous grip up front. I have ridden a nobby nic at the back as well sometimes but i prefer the racing ralph at the back. both are good tires. they work very exceptionally well in dry conditions and equally well if not better in the wet. the grip when its wet underfoot is unbelievable to say the least. the only tires for me at this stage. nothing else comes close.
  10. I have one of these quick links in my stuffs - Is it strong enough to take the strain of regular use? I was always of the opinion it was a quick fix to get out of a bnd and back to your home / car. Suppose my question is - Are they really good enough to use continually? (PS. I think they cost me 9 bucks or something - It is 2 identical halves which slot together.) They (the sram ones) are as tough as nails. I open close mine after every ride when i clean the chain and they have not failed me once in the last 3 years since i started using them. as mampara said. not even debatable
  11. I have 2 chains for my mtb. I change the chains after every ride. That also means that i have to wash/clean the chain and relube after every ride. This is a bit of a pain, but the little effort goes a long way to ensure that your casettes and chainrings last a very long time indeed. As an example i have been riding the same 2 chains for the last 8 months since october 2008. This included all my training for the epic on the mtb, and all the races in preparation. The casettes, chainrings and 2 chains are still 100 persent. I checked them just before the epic and they were not elongated at all. not even in the slightest. So this goes to show that if you use a bit of elbowgrease to clean and change the chains after every ride, you will save yourself a lot of money over time. Oh and yes, i do use squirt on my chains only.
  12. Maybe a silly question, but did you loosen the pichbolts first. Maybe the arm is so tight that it is keeping the cup from turning via too much friction. If the pichbolts are loosened and taken out, you have some room to spray some wd-40 on the inside of the cap where it presses against the arm. good luck.
  13. So how long does one rest after doing the epic. Most people say a week or two of no riding. How long does it take to loose all the hard earned fitness. I dont want to have to start all over again after resting too long, and also dont want to start too early and risk overtraining.
  14. Thanks Shortlegs Good luck to all the other hubbers doing the Epic come say hi when you see me. Ill be wearing blue GijimaAst gear and am in team Baie-Sikkel You should be able to find me struggling up most hills and fairly far down the field on any normal day. CaptainDura2009-03-20 05:41:19
  15. Team Baie-sikkel TheCaptain and hardk@k prologue time: 8:10 or there abouts. team number 352.
  16. so tell me underachiever' date=' with these impressive numbers, and seeing this is a lube thread, What lube do you use to get to these figures ???[/quote'] Squirt Dry Lube. 18. Stand the whole way. Your legs are the best suspension money can buy. And to make sure you dont sit down, remove your saddle before the race. CaptainDura2009-03-10 07:49:01
  19. with no more tech support along the route, what do you guys carry along besides the obvious tools and puncture repair. extra cleat ? spokes ? pedal ? allen bolts ? derailer pulley ? derailer screws/bolts ? any advice for an epic newby ? CaptainDura2009-03-10 01:46:05
  20. How can one measure your sitbones to know which saddle is the most likely fit, bearing in mind that only riding it will really tell the actual truth. I just need to know which saddle widths to try, like 130 ot 140 etc ?
  21. Or take your mtb and go into the koeberg nature reserve. No Cars, wild animals, gentle hills. Pure pleasure. No cars etc...
  22. according to windguru the wind is not going to be that strong on sunday. it looks like its going to be perfect and balmy. 13 knots of south-easterly wind. this is not very strong at all and normally quite constant. still strong enough though to make you work very hard in front
  23. ditto on the milko balm really works.
