  1. So how much did you spend on this project to get it this light ?
  2. go and do that same mtb race and try and stay with the leaders and it too will be a quick death. the fact remains that it will be a 2:1 ratio nonetheless.
  3. waar het jy so kortgekom fanie ?
  4. I must also say that i have mavic crossmax slr wheels at the moment and they rock. so i was thinking more in terms of comparing them to these.
  5. 370s are still good gear' date=' Giant, Trek and Specialized have spec'd bikes these guys fitted as OEM. They'll run great, you'll have no worries. It's LX / XT level stuff that is just as reliable. [/quote'] thanks ppwtf.
  6. it seems i was mistaken. the hubs seem to be the base 370s. anyone have any info on these ?
  7. Doen anyone have or know the quality of these wheels ? and what they weigh ? dtswiss hubs (240) (370) with dt rev spokes and mavic xm719 Are they heavier than for instance american classics and are the hubs reliable and easily serviceable? CaptainDura2008-10-23 04:14:05
  8. er' date=' frame is 10g heavier than the Anthem Advanced Carbon [/quote'] That is impressive. Hopefully it is just as strong as well!
  9. Can one order the frame separately ? and if so do you know how much they go for ?
  10. Does anyone know if giant changed the bushings on the back suspension as the previous anthems had some issues with the linkages becoming worn and/or too much side play ?
  11. 10.6 KG's that is one light bike! Can you enlighten us on the specs to get it to that weight ?
  12. Thats a shame as you really want the two chainrings to sit nicely in the middle. With the current 3 ring setup the middle chainring is in the middle (duh!) of the cluster. so one would want to move the chaninrings so the smallest one (29T) is now just off centre to the inside and the large one is just off centre to the outside. Or even better yet, seeing it is mtbing, and we gonna be using it in the mountains, if the smallest one could shift as much as possible to the left to keep the chain as straight as possible for the bigger sprockets at the back where it is going to be used the most.
  13. and are 29 tooth chainrings readily available ?
  14. So if you take off your granny ring, how do you move your cranks closer to the frame to make up the space where the granny was ?
  15. So i saw on supercycling the new trend to use 2 chainring cranks with a 29 teeth as the smaller and 44 as the bigger ring with a larger tooth cluster at the back. Apparently this gives you the same ratio than your granny gear does. anyone tried this before ? It seems to make sense for mtb as a bigger granny (29 instead of 22): 1. will be less likely to have chainsuck. 2. will wear slower than the smaller granny 3. will require less shifting on the front 4. will weigh less (for the weight weenies out there) 5. should keep the chain straighter between the two rings as apposed to the three rings. 6. most importantly will cost less in a perfect world as there are less material, bolts etc etc. although the bike manufacturers will most likely charge more for it. What are the cons ? and lastly can one convert a current three ring crank to a double ?
  16. what about this years lourensford race. was very very technical, lots of singletrack and lots of climbing, all sorts of terrain and some river crossings thanks to all the rain....
  17. From the pivot website it seems the bike in the pic is a mach 5 and not a mach 4.
  18. Take the bike to your lbs (or if you can do it yourself even better) for a good cleaning of the bb. sometimes a little dirt can get in there and make the noises. have them clean and grease the thing properly. It could also be one or both of your bearings in the bb. while its open for the cleaning above inspect the bearings for wear as well. Sometimes your headset can be the problem and often it sounds as if it is your bb. when standing or climbing in the saddle a fair amount of pressure is exerted on your handlebar with the side to side motion of your body. this can sometimes cause the headset to creak as well and very often sounds like the bb as it coincides with each downstroke. have that cleaned and greased as well. good luck.
  19. Scientists all over the world actually have no idea why people cramp. The thing is it is different for everyone. Some need magnesium, some need calcium, some need potassium etc etc. The only thing that is common to all people is the fact that when they cramp, the ratios of the above mentioned are being influenced. this means basically that some people for instance have lower magnesium values compared to the calcium or potassium they have to have in their body and they cramp. Other people have the same magnesium levels but their calcium levels drop relatively to their magnesium. It seems it is a very delicate balance and it differs for all people. Experiment with different things and find the one that works for you. I used to cramp badly. i tried everything including all the different magnesium meds and helpers i could find. nothing helped. then i started using rennies. this definitely helped but i still got the cramps every now and then... Then i added enos or citrus soda the night before and the morning before the race, and have my rennies handy during the race and my cramps have gone. dont get me wrong. training harder for longer really makes a difference and even with the enos and rennies i can feel the cramps coming to the surface when i push myself harder than i am used to for longer. So to everyone that get cramp, experiment with sal, potassium and magnesium to see which one relieves the cramping the most, and then train like mad to make sure you dont have to use it again.
  20. I have crossmax slr's and have not had a days poblems with mine. Had them for 2 years now racing and training on them and they are still very very true. i do put wd40 on the nipples often and turn the spokes/nipples every now and then. They really are nice wheels. very stiff and very light. I also have serviced the freehub myself (easy job takes about 5 mins) 3 times in the two years and it is still as smooth as butter. That said i am looking to get a new pair of wheels to train on, and was thinking of the american classic hubs, ztr rims and revolution spokes. anyone have bad experiences on the american classic hubs (bearings) or the ztr rims (burping tires, tires to avoid, bad rims etc..)
  21. and some lightweight strong mtb wheels.
