  1. I think politics shouldn't be blamed for every single dissapointment in SA sport..Whenever things go wrong its politics..when the boks lose, like now, its politics...China is the country with by far the most politics in their sport and yet they walked home with the most gold medals. We need politics in sport, because that's where the money comes from...Its not the amateur days anymore... However what should be blamed is the structure in our sport(or the total lack thereof). There is no talent identification,no developmental programmes to help athletes reach their full potential, no plan, everything gets done on point no 99, even team selections(the SA 4*100m running relay team was still 2 weeks before the olympics trying to figure out who should start of, who should run the back straight...,while the french team was for the past 3years training together each day), no support(AT ALL)...Its pretty much a single athlete versus a team of specialist(athletes, coaches, physiologists, psychologists, nutrionalists etc etc....) when we compete at world class events, other than rugby or maybe cricket. Everything starts at the big fat bosses at the top and cascade down...If the boss shuffels sh!t down the pipeline don't expect gold at the bottom.
  2. Awesome! lets hope the other provinces are soon to follow!
  3. is there a link where we can listen to this phone call?

  7. no!! its waiting to happen because of how organisers incorparate the needs of licensed cyclists.. and yeah gareth cliff..what a do*s..I just want to smack his "moermygesig" in..Don't listen to 5fm all to often, but heard him make some biased comments about cyclist and how stupid the sport is.
  8. okay yeah!! thats wrong! those kind of people gives everyone a bad name!
  9. yeah so he should slow down to that speeds..cyclist is traffic you know..he should actually only past if there is no oncoming traffic
  10. to track cycling..they need it!
  11. related is the wrong word..the right one is proportional eg boyle's law : pressure is proportional to temperature. People sometimes think that if torque increase power also increase but this is not the case. Eeven though torque does effect power it depends of radial velocity if power would increase and vica versa.. Rather make it simple. Think of a person cycling on a flat keeping the same power. the person then shifts up to a lighter gear and his cadence increases, but he keeps his power the same. This is because the torque has decreased and cadence increased.. Remember power = torque * cadence Okay so to make it a bit more complicated..this person shifts down and cadence decreases, but power stays again the same..because torque has now increased and cadence decreased.. The same with crank lenghts.. Longer cranks = lower cadence at the same power = higher torque = more climbing benifit. shorter cranks = higher cadence at the same power = lower torque = less strain on muscles.Racing Hart2008-04-18 12:55:46
  12. If torque increases power doesn't necassarily increases! because power = torque * radial velocity(cadence) so torque can increase but your cadence would decrease and this could have a slight negative/slight positive effect but in most cases about the same/insignifcant differance.Racing Hart2008-04-18 10:23:36
  13. he weighs in at 76kg
  14. haha look at the old toppie in the background trying to get his wife out of his view. Racing Hart2008-04-14 14:09:27
  15. I believe reading a story about jean de villiers before last year's world cup. And he made an unbelievable quick recovery. I remember they said he is out for the tournament and at the 1st or 2nd game he was already back.
  16. hahahaha that was funny though
  17. just a hunge/rumour.. Got no facts though.. but the giro leans to both sides! its deffnitely good enough to be a 2.1, but the problem is that none of the club teams with then be able to compete...so its catch22 unfortenately
  18. Some of them actually finishes it aswell. and some actually win it aswell
  19. by the way what is the minimum wage for a continental rider in sa?
  20. I dont understand what the fuss about compact is! it ONLY gives you an advantage on REAL steep climbs like 15% +..the other reason I can think of going compact is that you can't really climb...Like Marco pantani said :"a true climber never neads a gear bigger than a 23".. So a true climber never neads a compact crank. In SA racing I cant imagine were you actually would use a compact?
  21. but if she was pushed because she was loosing contact..she should have been DQ'ed
