  7. Ireland's Pezula debuts By Gerard Cromwell New Irish UCI continental cycling team Pezula will make their international road debut in South Africa in February, manager David McQuaid confirmed. The recently launched squad, whose Galway based construction management sponsors borrowed their name from a South African holiday hotspot, will be registered both on the road and the track for 2008 with former Navigators Insurance duo David O'Loughlin and Ciar?n Power heading the Irish challenge. Pezula will get its road campaign underway when they tackle the inaugural edition of the Worlds View Challenge in South Africa alongside top teams Milram, Liquigas and Barloworld as well as Professional Continental teams and some national squads from around the world. The five-day series, which begins on February 2, will be run as five separate 1.1 ranked UCI races, along the same lines as the traditional season opening Mallorca Challenge in Europe. Riders can pick and choose which races they will compete in over the five days, with points accumulated each day going towards a final general classification. Originally intending to compete in the Tour de Langkawi in February, McQuaid feels the trip to South Africa will be more beneficial to the Pezula set up. "We had intended to ride the Tour of Langkawi, before heading to South Africa for the Giro Del Capo in early March," said the son of UCI president Pat McQuaid. "Now we will head to South Africa at the end of January, ride the World View Challenge series and stay for a three week training camp before riding the Giro del Capo. David O'Loughlin and some of our track guys would have missed Langkawi because it clashed with the Los Angeles round of the track world cup, but now he can ride some of the South African races and we can rotate some of the younger guys and give them valuable experience." "I can't wait for the season to start," noted Power. "I have been training really hard and hope to make a big impact in the early season, to get some results and generate as much publicity as we can for Pezula. I have a good training programme worked out with my coach Paddy Doran and I've been working on my sprint a lot. I'm likely to get a lot more opportunity to race for myself with Pezula, so as well as doing team duties, hopefully I can take this opportunity and get some good results." Power has his eyes firmly set on one of the two Irish places available in the road race in Beijing. "I originally tried to qualify via the track but I just couldn't transfer over the power I was putting out on the road. We decided early to stop trying, and to concentrate on the road. I don't see why I can't make one of those places. There are probably five guys out there who fit the bill and althoug Racing Hart2008-01-09 14:08:21
  8. Who is your trainer? Robocop... I would seriously just focus on the quality of training you do. To ride 4 hours a day just because you can' date=' can be turned in to a 60-90 minutes of quality, Intervals, Sprints, Hills etc etc. Can you manage 100-150km's easy? [/quote'] NO way 60-90min of "Intervals, Sprints, Hills etc etc" is a replacment for base and long miles..those types of training is only really to do in season, when your about 5-7weeks from your main goal.. There is a reason its called base you know..It is really your foundation..If you have a good foundation you can build a higher and stronger building. Think of it this way if you represent your form to time on a graph..when you do intervals and those type of training your form does go up quicker..but you also reach a lower top on the graph and you form would gradually go down without you coming close to your potential..when you do a base you form goes up slower but gruduatly..so when you start doing your intervals your form goes up quickly again and you reach a higher peak..
  9. you can do that!! or you can ride to the top of klapperkop
  10. its basic physics..when going up i gradient you have a Y-component (vertically) of power pulling downwards(gravity) as well as a x-componen(horisontally) of power that pulls backwards...so to have the same speed on a hill that you would have on a flat you have to put much more power on the pedals to get the same resultant power! speed is directy equidistant to power "fres = ma" / power = mass * accelaration..
  11. buy the new look keo pedals instead!! they ride like a dream
  12. but there is now such thing as "delayed live" its either delayed or live? so dont say its live if its delayed
  13. Pick ?n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge Live Television times Sunday 18th November SS1 13:00 ? 16:00 So whats up with that?? No one wants to see the vet oomies that only get on their bikes once a year cycling on tv?? Its plain stupid... lets get a realistic scenario..Okay so you have an old rugby supporter still wearing his springbok jersey and there is no rugby on..so he surfs through the various sport channels and find the 94.7 cycle challenge..he thinks to himself :"wow this is interesting" , but just to find a clown riding his bike..he thinks to himself geese cycling is the most stupid sport in the world and continue searching.. while they should be showing the top end of the sport..that is what it should be about and not about the fun riders

  19. so then here's a idea..why not get a public funding system to help riders with the cost of going to worlds...similar to what they use in germany and other european countries..And a small amount of each entry of races going towards that...I can tell you the juniors was just as disappointed with also not going to worlds..It could have been they're GOLDEN oppurtunity...
  20. Stofile rules out team race quotas 06 November 2007 (19:32) http://images.supersport.co.za/StofileMakhenkesi040831PressGLbg.jpgMakhenkesi Stofile ? Gallo ImagesSouth Africa's sports minister ruled out racial quotas for national teams on Tuesday after the mainly white Springboks' recent victory in the rugby world cup reignited the debate over transformation. "Quotas are out," Makhenkesi Stofile told a parliamentary sports committee. "Let us put our resources into the development of talent." The presence of only two coloured players in the winning team's starting line-up, 13 years after the end of white minority rule, has led to a new bout of soul-searching about how to ensure the progress of more black players. Politicians, including President Thabo Mbeki, have reiterated the need for true racial transformation in a country with an 80 percent black population. But Stofile said quotas were not the answer, as a failed experiment in South African rugby showed a few years ago. "Quotas were used only for window dressing for international consumption," he said. "Those who have the money go and buy the players ... instead of developing the boys where they are." Stofile said black children, mostly poor, needed proper nutrition and facilities to help them develop the bone structure and muscle tone required for sports participation from an early age. "We must kill the myth that ... black people cannot play certain sporting codes because they are black," the minister told MPs. "Let us put our resources into the development of talent." About 200 million rand (30 million dollars/21 million euros) would be needed for this purpose annually, said Stofile, who argued for the creation of a national developmental rugby squad. "We (the government) are not going to decide who must be on the team. All we are saying is: expose everybody, give them an opportunity."
  21. we as cyclist really should start riding in the middle of the road..see how the people moan then..and tell them is anyway illegal to ride in the inside the yellow line.. today I was riding deep inside the yellow line and a fancy GOLDEN BLING BLING BMW came so close of clipping me with his mirror..I had to stop my self of not braking down his mirror at the next robotRacing Hart2007-11-01 14:31:01
  22. I acgree the program seems a bit easy if you want to race competitive...but its essential to ride in the lower zones..it help you to build edurance..so its no use going dead slow either..between 65%-75& is a good zone for edurance training..and try not to freewheel even on the downhills..so your muscles doesn't get chance to recover..your legs are gonna feel rotten and dead after 3hours the first couple of times..but after that you gonna benefit hugely from it..it help you also recover much faster during races
