  1. http://www.midlandsultra.com/images/results/Midlands%20Ultra%20Results%202012%20-%20Race%202.pdf
  2. I did a 6h41 would have liked it to be closer to 6h00 maybe next time. Managed to get a bad calf cramp on the swim leg. Good thing I can swim and did not panic. I was not as quick as I would have liked as a result but managed to finish ok. The weather was perfect for racing. Organization was good I did not see any drafting of any sort and refs seemed busy with trivial matters. Not sure how the timing works but the results say I was marginally slower than you on the swim but I am damn sure I saw come past me at the start of the cycle leg.
  3. Garf you silly boy. You won a prize but you were not there so they gave the prize to me instead Seriously you won a walk man of some sort must have been quite fancy because everyone wanted it. A few minutes later I won a pair of sunglasses and a R500 voucher for Troisport
  4. Right I'm off for the day see you good folks bright and early on Sunday morn. Travel safe.
  5. I suppose now that everyone knows my number i'm gonna actually be obliged to perform somewhat on Sunday and show the kids how the old ballies do it
  6. I'm gonna get myself one of those gay helmets and a funny suit so when the refs check me out they cant actually see me. I'm gonna be like the German U 212 submarine almost undetectable. Designed to attack and sink other athletes and referees. Not even the Garf claw will see me coming. Gonna call myself U583
  7. Hey wat maak julle 583 is my number !! bliksems. Listen I only get disqualified before the race has even started. I dont cheat during the race well ok maybe a bit of drafting ... every second or so but only if you dont mind
  8. Got to agree here it would be brilliant. The cradles the perfect spot. BUT at 40k's the inner loop is gonna mean 4.5 laps. The run can be a 20 out and back. Tough country though wont be that easy. BUT at least it will be on our back door and easy to get road closure for the day. The farmers not gonna be too happy though. They wont be able to visit tannie sannie after church.
  9. Must say I have been very relaxed about the event for quite sometime now. It was only this morning when I woke up and was thinking about the event that felt the first of those all too familiar butterflies
  10. Ja nee. I only have 1 helmet. I use it for MTB, road and triathlon. I wear it because I'm told I have to
  11. Did my usual tuesday morning session through Randburg and Sandton. Behold 2 roadies and a MTB riding 3 abreast down oxford road taking up an entire lane and yes they did cruise through the red robots. Its the only way they managed to keep with me and YES I did stop at the robots. Oxford is very busy that time of the morning lots of taxi's and buses so its an accident just waiting to happen. What really pisses me off is afterwards when I did my 10k run up Beyers. All the taxi's and cars driving in the emergency lane FORCING me to run on the gravel and bush next to the road. NOT a tjop sorry I meant cop in sight. I really dont want to say this but I am gonna say it anyway : why is it that 99.9% of these drivers are all of a particular skin color ? and believe me I see every single one of them real closeup ! ok lash me I said it
  12. Weather forecast looking okisshh. 61% showers predicted. 6h00 19 degress cloudy no rain. 12h00 rain 25 degrees. So if we kick off at 7h30 the water temp should be wetsuit legal. Just make sure you finish your bike leg early before the rain arrives at around midday. I should be done cycling by 11am and dont mind running in the rain. I HATE cycling in the rain. So it looks like its gonna be a cloudy overcast day nice n cool. Perfect racing conditions by my standards.
  13. Training for Oct 7 on track. Did a brick session at the cradle on Sunday. 80k cycle and a solid 10k run. The wind was so bad I almost got off the bike at one point to push. Average speed was 24km/h Picked up a new run belt and another pair of swim goggles from Troisport. Think I'm pretty much ready.Oops just remembered I did not get that extra yellow swim cap Garf how's your late swim training coming on ?
  14. Think i'll stick to riding at 4h30am or hit the cradle. Either way its just not worth the hassle. Motorists generally in this country as are the absolute worst.
  15. 15 before every 45 ? that's what it says in the packaging
  16. Is'nt "Mouille Point" where all the drug lords and pimps hangout ?
  17. whats that i thought this was a bicycle forum
  18. I'm deviating from my normal very healthy diet today. I am having last nights Chicken Chowmein for lunch. For dinner last night I had a castle milk stout and a few draft beers hence no REAL dinner as such. The reason for this is that today is my day off as such from my training regime for next weeks midlands ultra.
  19. Its really funny how some guys are terrified by cold water. I have a mate who is a hard core marathon runner who is real fit so on the bike and run he is like superman. Just mention water and the dude starts quaking at the knees. Last Iron man he just finished the swim minutes before cut-off. The first thing he asks is "How cold is the water?" needless to say on Sunday I'm swimming at emmerentia and on Sunday he is doing a looooong run.
  20. Garfield. Did I read correctly you are in Bloemfontein. Thought you stayed in Emmerentia somewhere ? I am going to Emmerentia on Sunday morning to do a few laps in my wetsuit prep for Midland Ultra so if you in the area best u join. On Sat morning 6am we are doing a brick session from Something Country. 90 cycle and a 10 run easy pace.
  21. Why dont you do a thread on this with a step by step dummies guide (for me) with pictures ? sorry I'm a stickler for detail. Its like posting a howto on changing a watch battery with no pics and half the detail.
  22. I have a bit of a collection including one which has the face of Paul Kruger on it and it says "Transvaal" and then "Eendracht maakt Macht" and on the bottom it says "Oranje ....." cant make out the rest. If you get caught in London with one of these in your pocket you will be arrested on the stop. Your name will appear in an offenders list and you may just find it rather difficult to get a job. In SA if you dont have one in your pocket people wonder whats wrong with you. If you are in the Cape and you dont have one you are probably dead already and yours is in someone else's pocket .... just joking.
  23. Maybe Morne will be playing curry cup ? If he does that would be great that way the Lions will remain top of the log not that I think the Bulls would manage it against the Lions anyway.
  24. Cool while Avo's are in season I too eat 3-4 of these a week. Somehow together with the rye bread they give me plenty energy. Currently get about 4 avo's for R16 up here in Joburg. But this will change in the not too distant future. I have paid R20 for 1 avo before Must say the oats to do it for me as well. When I do early morning brick sessions (40k's on bike and 10k run afterwards) thats all I eat with 1 bottle of water and nothing else.
  25. Oats for breakfast 6h30. Yoghurt @ 9h30. 2 slices rye bread and 1 avo for lunch @ 12. This will fuel a 2k swim in the morning and a 10k run in the afternoon @ 15h00.
