  2. I need a Garmin 310XT
  3. I can do that
  4. Posts like this are NOT allowed !! how unfair how unconsiderate
  5. Garf 200km solo !! shoo boet you are brave. I'm still getting into doing 120km and that took me 4.5 hrs. Must say I dont enjoy sweet things. So the GU's etc are ok they work BUT I cant have too many. As for the 32 GI chews YUUCCKKK. Tried that it was not nice. Must say the eggs, simba chips sound good. Just add a boiled potato and some biltong and I thing I have worked out Garf's menu for the iron man. Ok I tell you what this Sunday I am going to try some of this stuff. I'll let you know next Monday.
  6. I am doing the 20 week Intermediate Iron Man program on fittrack and am doing a pretty good job of staying on track. I am a little behind in points. BUT its not all that easy. So for example I did the Akasia 21km run on the Saturday and set a personal best at an 88% effort and then had to do 4.5 hours on the bike Sunday morning. My legs were not at all impressed. But I managed fine in the end. I even ran into the MTN team while they were have a laugh and a chuckle and managed to hold onto the bunch for about 5k's before they blistered off into the distance. The slow increase in mileage etc is really starting to pay off. I think too the interval training is giving me that ability to raise the tempo and hang in there. The big thing I have found is trying to find the right food to eat and eat at the right time. This past weekend definitely proved to me you must eat. I ate a peanut butter and jam roll with a GU for every hour and found that even at the end I still had plenty to give. I think though I could do with some professional advice on eating and nutrition. Perhaps draw up a menu which I can try during my training over the next 2 months. I am more than willing to pay for such help. Preferably from someone who has completed a few Iron Man events. Any takers ?
  7. I am a club ROAG member. I have my surname and CSA license number are on the back of my club cycling shirt. Anyone who thinks I am being a tjop can easily identify me and report me .... and if I happen to get run over I suppose this will help as well.
  8. That's disgusting ... I just dont have the words to describe my feelings. What the hell is this world coming to ?
  9. The frikken driver did not have a license !? the problem is there are a heap of "new generation" folks on the road who have no idea how to drive and dont give a rats arse about anyone else except themselves and getting from point a to b as quickly as possible. Why are there no cops patrolling the roads? They need to be in their cars driving around picking out people who break the law. But no they are concentrating on making money and are found hidden behind bushes instead. Damn oxygen thieves !!!
  10. The last time I was in Bloem was in the late 80's I was doing my best to get out of Tempe as quickly as possible wearing my browns and boots. Swore blind I would never return but maybe just maybe ....
  11. Just dont drop your butter soaked potatoes on the road like Garf did at Midlands Ultra. I'm sure there must be a rule against this. Its like a Garf was here message
  12. Best you be as fast as I am if you are that would be great. Generally I am as blind as a bat without my glasses and sighting is an issue for me. My swimming strategy is to find someone who swims at the same pace as me and then sight on them to make sure I am on course and hope like hell they can see and sight properly
  13. Actually you are quite correct ! I made the mistake of putting spaces in the card number. When it complained about the R100 it was actually saying it did not know the card number. When I removed the spaces all worked FINE so the best kept secret is not so secret anymore. In any case in 2010 I spent R4500 on a pair of glasses and a futher R1200 of contacts between then and now , all at spec savers, so why the hell should I pay an extra R100. Clearly I am a loyal client.
  14. What are good places to stay in PE ?
  15. I took the plunge and registered. The old man will be there. Will be my first and I must say I am quite nervous.
  16. Ok so it turns out as I am an existing spec savers client I have one of these MyLoyalty cards, just cant find it. BUT the RULE says you must spend at least R100 before you can qualify for the spec savers discount even if you have an existing card. So I went down to my local spec savers and spent exactly R100. So tomorrow then once the purchase has registered I should be able to complete my registration. I hope ....
  17. Then you grab their car keys and cycle off into the distance
  18. How about a paint ball bomb ! red or yellow ink
  19. I soooo do miss those days when you used to be able to jump on your bike for a 100k sunday morning ride with simply a cap on to keep the sun out of your eyes. Hey whats that plastic thing on thats guys head ? its not a helmet is it ?
  20. When it comes to MTB theres no way I'm riding plastic
  21. Garf. Did you do a spec savers entry ? If so did you go into spec savers spend a R100 and get a MyOwn loyalty card. Just thinking I cant think of much one can buy at Spec Savers for a R100. In which case you are actually only getting a discount of R900 and not R1000. If you spend anymore than R100 you might as well just pay the R4000 and get on with it. I have my contacts for the next 6 months anyway.
  22. I saw the Sky team out at Harties over xmas. Nice Jag
  23. So Garf I gather April 14, 2013 is one of your new years resolutions
  24. I always wondered about that sign I have been past it hundreds of times and its right in the middle of the emergency lane. If you look around all the other signs are off the road on the gravel. I was so frikken tired and a momentary lapse of concentration and thats what you get. Think one night I'll sneak out and cut it down
  25. So i'm about 3.5 hrs into what should have been a 5 hour training session this morning at the cradle. The heat is oppressive, the sweat is pissing into my eyes and I'm climbing yet another hill ... concentrating on my climb and the damn fly that keeps buzzing around me when BANG I ride straight into a Yield sign that is conveniently placed in the middle of the yellow lane. So now I'm lying on the tar my knee has no skin my arm is killing me right where it hit the post and my ego is no where to be seen and so ended my ride.
