  1. Weather forecast looking okisshh. 61% showers predicted. 6h00 19 degress cloudy no rain. 12h00 rain 25 degrees. So if we kick off at 7h30 the water temp should be wetsuit legal. Just make sure you finish your bike leg early before the rain arrives at around midday. I should be done cycling by 11am and dont mind running in the rain. I HATE cycling in the rain. So it looks like its gonna be a cloudy overcast day nice n cool. Perfect racing conditions by my standards.
  2. Training for Oct 7 on track. Did a brick session at the cradle on Sunday. 80k cycle and a solid 10k run. The wind was so bad I almost got off the bike at one point to push. Average speed was 24km/h Picked up a new run belt and another pair of swim goggles from Troisport. Think I'm pretty much ready.Oops just remembered I did not get that extra yellow swim cap Garf how's your late swim training coming on ?
  3. Think i'll stick to riding at 4h30am or hit the cradle. Either way its just not worth the hassle. Motorists generally in this country as are the absolute worst.
  4. 15 before every 45 ? that's what it says in the packaging
  5. Is'nt "Mouille Point" where all the drug lords and pimps hangout ?
  6. whats that i thought this was a bicycle forum
  7. I'm deviating from my normal very healthy diet today. I am having last nights Chicken Chowmein for lunch. For dinner last night I had a castle milk stout and a few draft beers hence no REAL dinner as such. The reason for this is that today is my day off as such from my training regime for next weeks midlands ultra.
  8. Its really funny how some guys are terrified by cold water. I have a mate who is a hard core marathon runner who is real fit so on the bike and run he is like superman. Just mention water and the dude starts quaking at the knees. Last Iron man he just finished the swim minutes before cut-off. The first thing he asks is "How cold is the water?" needless to say on Sunday I'm swimming at emmerentia and on Sunday he is doing a looooong run.
  9. Garfield. Did I read correctly you are in Bloemfontein. Thought you stayed in Emmerentia somewhere ? I am going to Emmerentia on Sunday morning to do a few laps in my wetsuit prep for Midland Ultra so if you in the area best u join. On Sat morning 6am we are doing a brick session from Something Country. 90 cycle and a 10 run easy pace.
  10. Why dont you do a thread on this with a step by step dummies guide (for me) with pictures ? sorry I'm a stickler for detail. Its like posting a howto on changing a watch battery with no pics and half the detail.
  11. I have a bit of a collection including one which has the face of Paul Kruger on it and it says "Transvaal" and then "Eendracht maakt Macht" and on the bottom it says "Oranje ....." cant make out the rest. If you get caught in London with one of these in your pocket you will be arrested on the stop. Your name will appear in an offenders list and you may just find it rather difficult to get a job. In SA if you dont have one in your pocket people wonder whats wrong with you. If you are in the Cape and you dont have one you are probably dead already and yours is in someone else's pocket .... just joking.

    Rugby...

Maybe Morne will be playing curry cup ? If he does that would be great that way the Lions will remain top of the log not that I think the Bulls would manage it against the Lions anyway.
  13. Cool while Avo's are in season I too eat 3-4 of these a week. Somehow together with the rye bread they give me plenty energy. Currently get about 4 avo's for R16 up here in Joburg. But this will change in the not too distant future. I have paid R20 for 1 avo before Must say the oats to do it for me as well. When I do early morning brick sessions (40k's on bike and 10k run afterwards) thats all I eat with 1 bottle of water and nothing else.
  14. Oats for breakfast 6h30. Yoghurt @ 9h30. 2 slices rye bread and 1 avo for lunch @ 12. This will fuel a 2k swim in the morning and a 10k run in the afternoon @ 15h00.
  15. Thanks for the reply. I have many spare swim caps that I have gathered over time in red, blue, black, orange etc etc but I dont have a yellow one BUT after Oct 7 I will. I just did not want to waste money getting a yellow one when I already have so many swim caps. Looking fwd to the race.
  16. and me 10pm to 9am making sure all you good folks have beer in the shops on monday for national braai day
  17. ok so it seems there are other hubbers who either have insomnia or are doing an all night session at work like me ?
  18. Now all I need to do is get my body in shape so i dont look like Porky riding .....
  19. +1 Concentrate on eating the right food to fuel your exercise regime and at the same time weight loss. As your body fat decreases and muscle mass increases you will see different things on the scale that wont necessarily make you happy.
  20. If you ride during the week from the engen garage and do the sandton/randburg route then this kind of thing is common place. 20-30 cyclists together at 5am-6h30am probably take up half the road. not right I suppose but safety in numbers works for me. the numbers thin a little as the ride progresses but this is still the norm.
  21. This is interesting as well "There will be a water point here, where competitors will be allowed to hand over special requirements and bottles" does that mean we can stash icy cold water bottles in cooler bag so they dont get hot like up at the 5150 at Bela Bela ?
  22. No size or color options which is a total deal breaker legit or not
  23. pitched up at a party once and got ***'ed out cause of the white stuff on my jacket ... it looked like coc but was actually grandpa heachache powder OR was it ...
  24. Must say I struggle with my nose as well. As soon as swimming season kicks in I start sneezing and get nose runs all day. My problem has just steadily gotten worse over the last year. I have a nose plug but never wear the damn thing. I will try it ....
  25. I'm doing some mental checks here. If the race starts 7h20 that gives me 40 mins to do my swim so I should be out of the water by 8h00. The cycle is flat so it should be a 3h00-3h15 ride for me so that puts me back in transition at about 11h15 and ready for the run. What I would like to know from the good folks out there who done this before what kind of temperatures can I expect at that time of the day ?
