  1. Thanks for the reply. I have many spare swim caps that I have gathered over time in red, blue, black, orange etc etc but I dont have a yellow one BUT after Oct 7 I will. I just did not want to waste money getting a yellow one when I already have so many swim caps. Looking fwd to the race.
  2. and me 10pm to 9am making sure all you good folks have beer in the shops on monday for national braai day
  3. ok so it seems there are other hubbers who either have insomnia or are doing an all night session at work like me ?
  4. Now all I need to do is get my body in shape so i dont look like Porky riding .....
  5. +1 Concentrate on eating the right food to fuel your exercise regime and at the same time weight loss. As your body fat decreases and muscle mass increases you will see different things on the scale that wont necessarily make you happy.
  6. If you ride during the week from the engen garage and do the sandton/randburg route then this kind of thing is common place. 20-30 cyclists together at 5am-6h30am probably take up half the road. not right I suppose but safety in numbers works for me. the numbers thin a little as the ride progresses but this is still the norm.
  7. This is interesting as well "There will be a water point here, where competitors will be allowed to hand over special requirements and bottles" does that mean we can stash icy cold water bottles in cooler bag so they dont get hot like up at the 5150 at Bela Bela ?
  8. No size or color options which is a total deal breaker legit or not
  9. pitched up at a party once and got ***'ed out cause of the white stuff on my jacket ... it looked like coc but was actually grandpa heachache powder OR was it ...
  10. Must say I struggle with my nose as well. As soon as swimming season kicks in I start sneezing and get nose runs all day. My problem has just steadily gotten worse over the last year. I have a nose plug but never wear the damn thing. I will try it ....
  11. I'm doing some mental checks here. If the race starts 7h20 that gives me 40 mins to do my swim so I should be out of the water by 8h00. The cycle is flat so it should be a 3h00-3h15 ride for me so that puts me back in transition at about 11h15 and ready for the run. What I would like to know from the good folks out there who done this before what kind of temperatures can I expect at that time of the day ?
  12. Can we please clarify this I quote from the event information page " Competitors to use their own Yellow swimming caps unless race Swim caps are given at registration" so I dont have a yellow cap right now. So what you are saying is that just in case you decide not to issue competitors with caps on reg day we must supply our own. Surely you know NOW whether you are going to issue yellow caps or NOT. Sorry to be a stickler on this point but I have had to learn the hard way through stupid mistakes in races so when I see things like this I get somewhat excited.
  13. see this ad. just need a cassette. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/38342-mavic-training-rims-for-sale/
  14. supposed to be working ...
  15. Must say I have never had an issue with anyone on the hub and I have built 2 complete bikes from stuff bought on the hub. I feel a lynching coming on !? GIVE US THE NAME !!
  16. I'm old school. Tubes are good for me. I always carry at least 1 spare tube plus puncture repair kit. I get a puncture and 5-10 mins later I am up and running again. Running at lower pressures MAY mean more grip BUT it also means you going slower. Tubeless does NOT equate to less weight. I have seen far too many tubeless rides ending abruptly.
  17. Love to just send the A team down there and rip his tonsils out. Its the only language these low life's understand
  18. I have done 2 sun city races and enjoyed both. Swim and bike legs no problem. Sun city will never be a wet suit legal race. Bit of drafting going on during the cycle leg. I dont think the refs for this race are quite as hard core as the refs from 5150. The run is quite challenging. All in all a good day in the sun. Nice venue. Good organization.
  19. I got read the riot act by my wife last night when I mentioned the words "iron man". Maybe I should mention this event to her I know she likes that part of the world and she may just pay as well ! but then again I might just get another dose of fire and brimestone lashed at me
  20. I'd love to see someone try confiscate my bike ... oooh yes please
  21. Well the pool I train in was 27 this morning. After 20 laps I started to feel like I was in a gold fish bowl in Dubai. 19 / 20 much better with or without wet suit.
  22. My most recent order went missing. Ordered BB and crank cap was R300 in total and had it sent via Royal mail due to total cost. Placed order in May by end of September it had not arrived. Filled in CRC missing in action form and they resent the order. Less than a week later the 2nd order arrived. So win some loose some. The IMPORTANT thing here is that CRC resent the order at their own cost, no hassles, and it did arrive. I can only assume CRC have some sort of insurance covering orders going missing in the post.
  23. My gators have done 1500k's 1 puncture due to 20mm nail and no slipping. All tyres are slippery when brand new and caution is always recommended this goes for cars, bikes, bicycles etc.
  24. I would not hassle paying R300 for doing the Argus. Obviously when you have an entire family doing the race well then it does get expensive. Perhaps they could come up with a family discount structure. Coming from Joburg it costs us a lot more than a mere R300 to do the race. More like R5000.
  25. Ok now we need to get the landlords to equip the office buildings we work in with showers and presto you will have a ton of people cycling to work and back
