  1. Damn just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water
  2. I'm doing the 5150 this year. Yes I agree 150% very expensive BUT my wife and kids all really enjoyed the weekend last year. They liked the part where they sat in the beer tent and cheered me as I ran past. I also got a hot blonde from the VIP tent rush over and meet me at the finish line with a cold beer .... So it looks like this might become an annual fixture unless finances in the future dictate otherwise.
  3. Woody I see you live in Randpark Ridge as I do and I know exactly what you are talking about. That little stretch from Molope to the highway. I can honestly say that 99.9% of the !@#$%^&*() who drive in the yellow lane are of a particular color group. Good on you for blocking them just be careful none of them ever decides to stop and get a little more than miff. I saw a chick once driving her BMW conv halfway in the yellow lane. She stopped all the taxi 's and their comrades from passing and using the yellow lane. Serious cahoonas she had !! She caused a mini riot
  4. I use the swimovate watch. Nice to see competing products like this. Definitely will be on my list when next I am considering an upgrade.
  5. Oh dear thats funny !! it just had to come out did'nt it
  6. I just gotta agree here. Nice quote.
  7. Nah I think not. You should pitch up one day at one of the races either 5150 or one of the Germies races. Sure there's some serious folks but most are just very normal very friendly folk who like a bit of sweat and fun in the sun oh yes and lets not forget the braai and beers afterwards.
  8. He he the LIONS beat the Sharks on saturday next it's the stormers turn to get beaten. Just cannot understand why it cant happen more often

Well I'm not so sure about this theory. If I look at the size of my son and his mates at the local rugby club I would have to say there's got to be a lot less gravity or they must be eating something I am not. I have another theory the longer you live on this planet the greater the effect gravity has on you. If you look at my mid rift you will know what I am talking about

PB for Argus for me (old route) 3h10 and 94.7 is 3h23. Garf I wanted to ask you if you are following some sort of training programme for the otter and if so if you would mind sharing it with me. I'd like to take a peek at whats involved thinking I'm also gonna do this race next year.

you and me both. The very elusive sub 3hr. The only time I ever managed a sub 3 was many years ago (when I was much lighter) doing a 2h58 the race in those days was called the star 100 and was actually 115km
  12. Hmmm I suppose most triathletes in this case will also have some sort of heart damage and that I can expect to die an unnatural death at sometime point in time soon.
  13. in the heat of the moment my knuckle duster works a treat. big or small they all succumb after 1 lekker smack. makes light work when it comes to altering body work, tail lights anything like that. just hope the offending person does not have a gun or something like that or you gonna be the sorry person
  14. Ok so I tried the Vaseline and it worked perfectly. I did my Tuesday 50k cycle which is very hilly and has some very fast downhills and flats so really tried it all. Not a single drop of sweat in my eyes. Must say though I was liberal in the application. I created a upside down V shape on my forehead and eyebrows. I did notice a little more splashing of sweat on my lenses which is not necessarily a good thing either. Think I am also going to try a few other suggestions as well just for the hell of it and post results here.
  15. I did this in 2006 and 2007. Just dont make the same mistake I did and come back cause you missing family and friends. Make sure you sell everything before you leave. Do not try to make it easy just in case you decide to come back. If you do come back you will realize in time it was the biggest mistake you ever made. You have been warned. I wish you good luck.
  16. Excuse my ignorance what is a "BuFF"
  17. Well must be honest in 15 years+ of cycling this is the first time sweating has become some what of problem and NOT because I am older. I am probably the fittest I have ever been. So I'm leaning towards thinking the helmet is the problem because this really only started round about when I got my new helmet but I never did the 1+1 thing. I'm not going to knock any products based on what I have read hear so please dont ask for the brand name. Must say the vaseline thing works everywhere else including my bibs shorts so I guess it might just work on my forehead as well. I'm going to try this on Tuesday avie and see how it works. I will report back. If not I will try a few other suggestions listed above.
  18. I'm really tired of burning eyes while cycling, the sweat just gutters down my forehead. For running I use a cap which I pull down just above my eyes the sweat seems to gather on and run off the end of the peak. I've read many product reviews etc but love to know from my fellow hubbers as to what REALLY WORKS for sweat management and specifically to cycling ?
  19. I bought one of those frames from Kiwi. Been riding it for about a year now. I'm no podium dude but must say I am very happy with mine. It was my very first MTB from scratch build without any help so to speak. I used a combo of sram and XT components. Everything fitted and worked perfectly.
  20. Yes please I got lost after line 5
  21. I am on a winter maintenance program at the moment. This should do the trick to make sure I'm not FAT(er) and SLOW come summer
  22. The biggest issue I had in the past was not sticking to the plan. So if the plan for today is to do an hours worth of running at 70% and to include at least 3 hills then make sure you include the hill work because its there for a reason. If it says run for an hour at 45% it means just that and again its there for a reason even if it is not immediately obvious to you. What I have found is that it is sometimes necessary to swop out running and cycling days. Careful how you go about this.
  23. Funny thing my MTB has an old Raleigh saddle on it given to me by a friend for free. I look at the other 3 saddles in my spares box and wonder why I spent so much money on expenses saddles when the most comfie saddle I have did not cost me a cent.
  24. I had a trailer and 2 * Honda XR500's stolen many years ago. Went off to varsity for the week came back on the Friday afternoon looking forward to a good weekend of racing only to find trailer, bikes and all my racing kit MIA. That was the last time I did any motorcycling racing of any sort
  25. I saw them in the window as I walked in. Think they were R40 ea. I have been thinking of arming myself in various ways for a while now considering all the bike jacking and idiots on the roads these days. When you read the comments to that article I get very worried.
