  1. I have the Argon Gallium pro. brilliant bike no complaints at all. Its also a better looking bike than the giant. ( my opinion only)
  2. I had them do my MTB last Wednesday and the rode 85KM on Saturday in the wind, all previous aches and pains were gone, I highly recommend
  3. Vets= between 40yrs and 50 yrs masters= 50-60yrs and you qualify during the year that you turn 40
  4. If you are riding mtb and in muddy stuff take a look at the "Gore Ride on" cables. totally sealed and last forever. bit pricy to buy here (Capetown somewhere) but CRC have at a resonable price.
  5. I hadn't heard of this site until reading this thread, When buying from overseas is it true you pay 35% duty on landing? What's the quality of the shorts? Padding? I'm normally a large (size 34 jean pant) what size should I order from this site?
  6. dont let your better half know what you spend on your bike, then you can beat any time
  7. Any one know if there is a weight limit for 29" American Classics, might have a chance of purchasing 2nd hand but i'm no light weight.
  8. 02.55 for the 7okm,(not to bad for a 53 year old) had a brilliant line sprint with another rider who stole it by 2/ 100th of a second, we'd been at each other for vertually the whole second lap.
  9. Planet Cycle Corp. but as I said they do not have the agency anymore.
  10. The Agents are now in the Strand. The carbon (XX)Alma must be absolutely unbelievable but out of my league (and weight, I,m 86kg) The seat issue is already sorted, that was just put on for the first ride
  11. I paid only R5250 including delivery, but the agent who originally took the order (back in September last year), lost the dealership from Orbea, and I know he ended up doing me a favour with the price.
  12. I have finally received my Orbea Alma 29er frame which I have put together with XT throughout. I am told it's the first of its kind in the country so guess i feel pretty privileged. I love the look and feel of this ride and boy can it climb.
  13. I must admit that I'm a mtb'er that does a bit of road work (on a road bike.) Generally I find most people of both disiplines greet most of the time, especially if you greet them, even if it's a little nod of "yeh I know the pain you're going through." Some of the comments here are insighting the differences between the the two and we're are getting a rift between us. For those of you that think, you, with your fancy road machines are better and "above" the MTB'ers, and for those MTB'ers with the fancy offroading beauties, who think roadies suck. Hell get over it and remember we're all of the same opinion that weekends are for riding and that a little nod or howsit costs nothing. Oh , but remember not to throw down your gue packets, that sucks road and trail.
  14. I went on to the orbea website which has a vidio of the method of fitting press fits, definately locktite
  15. this is a great advert for stans
  16. You were lucky to get 5000km out of one drive chain, I'm lucky to get 2500km from my middle ring, the cassette usually about the same and the chain and small ring usually 2 each cassette, all above =XT. I've never riden with deore but XT is smooth when new.
  17. We,ve been doing mtb riding out in the north of JHB for years, and alway thought there must be a way of linking 1,2 or even 3 of the tracks to get 1 big long loop, we took our garmin records overlaid them on Google Earth and voila, we have now an option of up to 100km of awsome track. with out a Garmin this would be impossible. I guess if all you do is road work then you can just use a map book
  18. This whole post is brilliant, love the ending, but sometimes its best to name and shame, maybe stop someone else from being burnt.
  19. I have had two carbon GT Marathon team frames, one cracked next to the seat post (replaced under warantee)and the other, broke in an accident on the spruit, (someone decided to endo head first into my lap and broke the whole frame in half) I also had a carbon/ alu.ritchey stem break and that was a nightmare as I had to walk back. However I still ride with carbon seat post and handlebars. and I have an old OCLV trek which comes out once a year for the 94.7. My point is, if you get a carbon frame buy new with warantee. I wouldn't use another carbon stem on a mtb as I think with pulling, pushing, hitting the deck, etc. they get bashed about and fail when you least expect them to. Seat posts and bars are fine but as someone else said, not always lighter.
  20. Its the rim tape, the bontrager rythms need either special tape or the hard plastic type which has the form of the rim. i had the same problem and I took them to eagle canyon cycles and they fixed them up in no time, sinse then no problems, I do find the offset spokes make the valve seating look a bit strange. ggod luck
  21. I'm sure its a good ride, being specializes, but hell it looks crap, only my opinion
  22. I was also at van Gaalens yesterday and those guys complaining are soooo lucky they didn't take us up to the top of poffadda where the back side down hill is 3 x's more technical than what was on offer yesterday. personally I knew that the single track would be clogged up with slow riders and that the downhills would have walkers, but I still had to do it as this is up there with the best Gauteng can offer in terms of adrenalin fixes. I guess next years van Gaalens will be with out those guys complaining or maybe the committed wantabees shold get to the skills clinics, hell, I've attended them and I'm still learning.
  23. You can't go wrong, the only site that sells "no grey products" meaning if you buy items like wheels or forks you can get the warantee honored, whereas if you buy from some sites the local agents won't look at these items when they go wrong.
  24. This is the first time I'm punting myself here on the hub, I have a smallish company that deals with alts, adds and new homes see www.mjeprojects.co.za we were finalists in the "702 small business awards" and I stay in the Randburg area.I have names of engineer's and architects that could help. I've been in the building industry for more than 30 years. I would gladly give my advise . P.M me if you would like assistance.
  25. I'm green with envy, can't wait to start my own 29er build. I did notice that dirt*girl and you are very competetive about the use of the term "prettiest" maybe we should also see what she has. well done on the bike
