  1. Hence my point that its your bet bet to try not to swerve. Train yourself and in reality it can work like that.
  2. This latest incident really brings home how dangerous road cycling and certain sections of road are. Hard to train yourself not to swerve but your best bet when you get a sudden door open or some other obstacle in front of you must be to brake and hit the driver/door rather than try to turn unless you are certain the road is clear behind you.
  3. I need a wear and tear replacement for my legs. Anyone?
  4. The most dangerous thing about Table Mountain is that it is in close proximity to the City and has easy access for hikers (and crims of course). The ease of access belies the danger it poses to inexperienced hikers. More people have died or been seriously injured falling or coming to some other grief than have ever been harmed in muggings. Security on TM has been stepped up considerably of late so the risk of a mugging has been reduced. That said, I agree with others who have advised to get a guide. Try Awol Tours. They do hiking and MTB guiding.
  5. Many of the MTB stage races are gravel events in reality, aren't they?
  6. What seems to happen is dirt gets in around the rear of the piston and causes problems. All I did was dismantle and thoroughly clean the piston and lever mechanism and reassemble with silicone grease on the piston and silicone spray on the lever mechanism. This totally revived some leaky 785 levers I am still using.
  7. AH just needs to get a few TUE's and he'll be there like a mare.
  8. Going to be very interesting to see how AH does. What kind of team has he joined - top tier or not? I wonder how many XCO races he will be at...
  9. Ya, no orange trails that i have ever seen. Reds are blues. Red Phoenix is a blue graded trail Cobra at Hoogies is a blue. The upper section of DH0 is a double black for the upper section. The AM trail at Tokai is also black and even more so than it ever was. Trails change - Phoenix can get gnarly and even when well maintained is a high consequence trail due to the speed and exposure.
  10. Jonketshoek uses what you refer to as the forestry system. A red is a blue in IMBA speak. Maps may differ and for instance on Trailforks a double black is shown as a red trail on the map but described as a double black. This is to differentiate it from a single black diamond on the map. It can cause confusion.
  11. Okay its not that bad but reminds us how things have changed...
  12. Should the title not be changed to" Who in their right mind rides anything less than a full power EBike on the mountain"?
  13. Sounds like you Gravelers need MTB's with all that moaning about "corrugations". HTFU man. I think the organizers should ban flat bars and any form of suspension. Gravel purity FTW.
  14. Plus the US gravel scene will find it and come in droves. It will be like the Epic only 'Merican.
  15. That track did in quite a few tyres. Seems they were running rather low pressures and burping them off in the bike park section berms. There was a slow mo shot of Allan's rear tyre looking very squirmy. The U23 races were a poor showcase for the sport and track. Real low budget coverage that hardly showed any angles and made do with the bare minimum of cameras. Should they even bother if that's all they are prepared to do?
  16. I quite enjoyed the broadcasts without commentary but it was nice to have it back for the men's race. Staylive is fairly shite though. Casting to my android box didn't work properly perhaps because of bad internet but even on a good day I get buffering and audio and video sync issues.
  17. Six pack of frosties would be more appropriate...
  18. I think I'd be rather disappointed if I had booked from afar based on my buddies accounts of previous Epic routes around the WC.
  19. What's up with the "urban edition" stuff. Are they trying to cut costs on logistics and trail building? Looks tough enough for sure, but this route is even further from the original CE point to point event.
  20. I've always found that a decent amount of road training makes my MTB rides that much better. For instance, after the CTCT training and race my times on pedally descents are better and I feel fitter and faster everywhere. This could just be because my fitness has been improved a lot over the norm by teh road riding. That said I think what you're experiencing is more likely just that extra drag and slower speeds on the MTB which is a sharp contrast with the easy cruising on the road bike.
