  1. I'm in your boat. My wife and I are going to do our first event for years - Eselfontein at R3600 for both of us. Its not comparable to the GB but at least there are a few events like this that are still affordable.
  2. At R54k isn't it already?
  3. I am looking forward to some Epic like coverage.
  4. Wallet?
  5. My insta has been bombarded with content incl Tiny Tim Pidcocks mugshot, by the Gravel Burn publicity machine. Gravel Burn - the race that measures the size of your ....
  6. Give us a name!
  7. Just the people who really count to the organizers 🙂
  8. Just got a bottle of Smoove with that lekker applicator thing - so happy 🙂
  9. Entries are closed, but if you're a pro - get in touch... we hef special for you. Those roads are great, but best seen from your SUV. I really don't get gravel but i think more people than the dire predictions above, will finish. Its like riding on a rough tar road after all and lots of it is downhill. Most entrants know how the Epic really is the race to measure all, so they'll be suitably trained up to get measured properly. If its windy - meh - that's what droppy bars are for. I am looking forward to the coverage with all the beeg names.
  10. We went out to Muratie to do the memorial day ride. Brought back memories of Meurant's early enduro races at Delheim and Simonsberg. The trails are superb and brilliantly built. I hope Arina manages to keep the show going. I know it is a tough market these days with the growth of gravel. Not to mention the ever expanding trail networks in the area. If you haven't ridden there before or havent been for a while, go support the business.

  12. There is only one choice - the new Trek dual sus. The closer you go to MTB the better off you'll be seems to be their thinking or you could just buy an MTB and maybe save some money. This gravel bike evolving into MTB trend is confusing...
  13. I rode a very hot event in some poorly ventilated black shoes once. It was also a hot day and the foot that was more in the sun on the return leg literally got cooked. White shoes do have their practical advantages...
  14. Maybe I was just lucky - didn't have any issues after I got rid of the old 10sp SLX and went to XT.
  15. Yep, that's the nail on the head. Anyone would think some of the commentators here are a bunch of roadies... oh wait...
  16. Precisely. I wonder if that new so called clutch on the di2 was the problem. The older Shimano clutches have worked very well for me...
  17. Allan's race was a bit like watching the Bok second half. Ridiculously good. He looked like an enduro racer on the gnarly DH sections. Riders and bikes have come a long way.
  18. That was a tough course and the top dogs set a killer pace. I see Alan and Luke were over half a minute down on the winner. Should they even have been there for SA? 🙂
  19. Yes, nice of the UCI to youtube the races. I have Windscribe free and it has a Hong Kong VPN which works great. Good XCC by T Jacobs for a bronze but didn't see C Lill or either of the men feature near the top of their races.
  20. The problem is nobody here rides bike at that level so we have limited experience of durability or the cheaper components on them. Those bikes will be good for gentle riding or even the odd gravel road, but not much more than that. If that's your aim, any of them will work fine.
  21. Apparently the UCI Youtube channel will show the worlds live, subject to geo blocking. Sounds like a Swiss VPN might work...will have to check
  22. A poorly manufactured hub with poor tolerances will wear out bearings prematurely IMO. This is more critical with a rear hub. We have a DT wheelset that has not needed new bearings in 10 years or more. Cheaper hubs that rely on threaded end nuts to keep the freehub/axle in place require checking and maybe some Loctite to keep everything tight. Also check your axle is tightened properly on a regular basis.
  23. Does it double as a tyre pressure gauge? If so it could be a useful dual purpose tool
  24. Yes, your suppositions are correct.
