  1. Don't get me wrong, I'd love an eBike. They do create the opportunity to have some fun on threads like this though.
  2. IMO, If we're riding with a newb I think its our duty to educate them on trail etiquette. A slow rider needs to understand they're going to be passed and when someone who is faster comes up behind them, they should allow them to pass when its safe to, by stopping if necessary. Its not always about Strava, more often about finding the flow and riding at a pace that your comfy with that allows you to clear features and ride in the way you need to to enjoy it.
  3. So on top of range anxiety, eBikers now have a second phobia "fear of being judged". I mean seriously, Oak Valley. one of the smoothest easiest places to ride any kind of bike and you took your moto? Its so smooth its 26er and hard tail friendly. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
  4. Start your won thread man - this is for full lycra XCO, only.
  5. 2022 Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen. Its got even longer - "2022"
  6. No issues with an Instinct and S20, so far.
  7. I see a few sales have reduced stock to only 97 or 98 in the case of some models πŸ™‚
  8. https://www.moneyweb.co.za/news/south-africa/famous-brands-executive-killed-while-cycling/ Looks like the Cradle has struck again...
  9. Thule back pack is probably a magnet for muggers - imagine R5k bag with a 25k laptop, R2k coffee press and keys to a Jimny in there.
  10. K@k man, its the MMSTTPB - sheize, even the acronym is a tongue twister...
  11. The Ion KPact are probably the best available but are DH worthy pads and pretty warm for just riding around. The 661 Recons are almost useless - I have a pair and don't bother with them. The latest version may be better but all the flimsy sleeve type pads can move on your leg, Couple that to a grippy rubber outer and they get pulled off the area they need to protect in a crash. Any pair you get should have a kevlar/ aramid fabric outer cover to prevent this and make them durable. I see CCS is now importing 7IDP protection - they make some good looking pads. https://bikenetwork.co.za/7idp-mtb-helmets-and-protection-now-available-in-south-africa/
  12. That's awesome.
  13. Doesnt have to be fancy, just has to be a bit lighter and have controls that work smoothly and fit kiddy hands. Like the icon and Isla bikes mentioned elsewhere.
  14. The biggest issues with kids bikes are the weight and stiff and oversize controls. Its ridiculous what we expect our kids to make do with while we cruise around on fancy bikes that weigh the same or less and have super easy to use controls. That said I saw a friends kid on an Icon kids bike. The thing was super light for a kids bike - rigid fork and microshift gears with brake levers that were actually designed for small hands. Bike Addict seem to sell them...
  15. I did some spray lubing of the rail seat junctions with no difference noted in the creaking. Next I'm going to put an old seat on the bike and see if that makes a difference. Or perhaps I should just buy some earplugs or headphones and drown out the noise?
  16. I'm busy trying to eliminate an irritating creak on my enduro bike. It sounds seat/post related but I've done the ant-seize grease thing on the post/frame and the seat post clamp/rails and still get the irritating creak while seated and pedaling. I've started greasing the pivot bolts to eliminate these as a source but I have my doubts its the problem... My questions are the following: 1. Do saddles themselves creak eg where the rails meet the saddle upper at the front or rear? 2. Is there a lifespan on a saddle - in my case a Venge comp which is about 3.5 years old. Its in near perfect condition to the eye but there is a little rust on the rails. Is the creak trying to tell me to upgrade? πŸ™‚
  17. I just got almost the last Ardent 2.4 in 26" in SA, possibly the world. Thanks Evo.
  18. Ass sauce has such a good ring to it ....
  19. Yes you can - my cheapo Garmin Instinct is very easy to read and has customizable data fields (up to a point) You can easily glance at your wrist or move your hand off the bars to get a view. Its almost easier as you don't have to look down towards your bars. I used to use a Polar V650 but gave up due to the utterly useless connectivity with my phone and the watch is much easier to use as far as I am concerned.
  20. I recently started using a Garmin sports watch. To me this is the way to go and its useful for other activities too. (It also overstates my meters climbed per ride which I kind of like πŸ™‚ )
  21. We know you are an unbiased eBike rider, ne? The evil of an eBike as opposed to a shuttle is the relatively small cost involved with a shuttle which enables mere mortals to have more fun without spending as much as a decent car on a mere bicycle. So there Doughnut! πŸ™‚
  22. DHR2's are notoriously slow rolling in my experience, especially out back. I'm running a WTB Tough 2.4 Trailboss out back and an Aasegai exo+2.6 up front. Nice strong fast rolling rear tyre and grippy front. You don't need DHR2 type grip out back unless its very slithery - then again Jhb is just that right now isn't it? *Yes, the difference in rolling resistance to a slicker rear tyre will be very noticeable. An Ardent is better than a DHR but still not the fastest you could go.
  23. Shots fired! πŸ™‚ That said, maybe real eBike cyclists can just switch off the assist and ride through the booms under their own power. If they want to use their 80Nm then they must pay πŸ™‚
  24. I suspect the women's racing season will be the one to watch but then again, the men's has also got more interesting in the last couple of years. I presume AH will be flying the flag as usual. I wonder what was up with Kate Courtney last year - she hasn't delivered on the promise she showed a couple of years back...
  25. So frikkin expensive πŸ™‚
