  1. If a mountain biker has no mountain to ride is he/she still a mountain biker?
  2. Deon I think most people understand the process by now but are increasingly frustrated at the snails pace it is taking. As for TMNP bending over backwards - thats their version of reality and a direct response to the pressure from MTB groups, especially via the TMMTB forum and the fact that the new EMP has been driven and funded by this group. In the real world they aren't really bending over backwards at all. Imagine what would be happening if there was no Tokai MTB or TMMTB Forum? For what its worth have the horse riders come back to you on your second proposal for an early access route up to Silvermine Dam?
  3. Going to do back up and toddler taming while my wife rides the 35 km race.
  4. I rode out in Stellies on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Such a great vibe there. Trails sharing everywhere - dogs, horses, runners and riders. There is a horse training paddock next to the XC circuit. The dog owners are apologetic if a dog chases a bike as one did to me at one point. Cycling on the green belt next to the Eerste river with dogs and walkers is promoted. I think you would struggle to find one place where you can't ride a bike there. We rode on Miachael Jordaans farm where his wife has built beautiful single track removing aliens and planting indigenous in the process. No permits fees to ride on Botmanskop or the aforementioned single track above Hells Hoogte. No paranoia about rogue riding that I heard of from the locals I rode with - the Jordaans are quite happy to have people riding on their farm. Was a trail run using the same trails yesterday too. Makes you realize how things can work when the community works together and there is simple acceptance. And don't tell me mountain bikers are all sweet and nice in Stellies. Puts the continual **** in the southern burbs into perspective. If I could afford to live in Stellenbosch I would move. Its fast becoming the cycling Gautengers place to emigrate to :-)
  5. Well thats good news I was not aware of. Well done, you have extreme patience. The "better response" will of course be meaningless if they don't actually agree to it. How long will it take for an answer from the horse riders?
  6. The stated value of the cassette and NW ring is crazy. You can get this cassette and a Kalbo ring for under R2500!
  7. But the horse riders are the ones who have vetoed a proposed route up to level 5 because it crosses "their" historical riding area. Perhaps they have a different definition of working together to us?
  8. What are you planning a big endo a month before? Put the crash on hold and you'll make the race easily :-)
  9. And some of them may be the same people who own the farms which won't allow Chris to route his MTB track through them. perhaps?
  10. Oh dear, that's a pity... I'll chat to Chris when i see him next.
  11. Funny how farms in the North seem to love MTB despite the terrible stench attached to us bikers. I also have my doubts the owners of Constantia Uitsig see MTB in this light, at a guess. Maybe its actually more to do with not wanting anyone on their property - on foot or otherwise. Has an approach actually been made to any farm owners?
  12. I look at my bike which I have built up over time - swapped over components and it all adds up to quite a bit - Over R50k. Much of it is wear and tear - drive train, tyres etc, but its also the upgrades. Factor this into owning a R195k bike along with agent only services ( if its a Spaz) and the cost of ownership is massive - R4k for a new cassette etc You'll be on your way to R300K quite quickly :-)
  13. XC - where 69.5 degrees is slack. Eish. I have just ordered the R195k one. My wife said thats fine, a second bond in these trying times is the way to finance that, bugger the new car. :-)
  14. Whaaat are you on? I was most definitely invited? Utter nonsense. Never seen an invite or did I fail to follow FB or twitter closely enough. What does your third sentence actually mean? Come on, stop telling MTBers how *** they are and organize a meet in upper Tokai where we can come and show TMNP (and you) how we feel about aliens and the trails? And try and understand how the pullers can access a supposedly deadly part of the mountain but we can't. And get the stats on tree fellers killed and machinery destroyed during the logging process. edit - just read the FB post for the first time. So no I wasn't personally invited. Had I seen this I may well have joined in just to get access to Tokai to see what the trails look like. Funny how they talk about an indemnity for the pullers - the same indemnity all cyclists could sign to get access and which would cover TMNP in case they were injured while riding. The more you see the more it stinks.
  15. Where's the specific invite to the MTB community to get involved? Come on make it happen Deon - we'll all come and pull. Or is it really all irrelevant but a convenient issue to berate the MTB community with?
  16. Deon, you have a low opinion of your fellow cyclists. Not the ideal attitude for an MTB rep I'd say. Very nice tweets but we weren't invited to Rebello's alien pull were we? That's an after the fact tweet. I have never seen an invite or those tweets of yours. In fact if mountain bikers want to look around Tokai they get fined for entering illegally. I guess if they had a pulling permit, all would have been okay? And its amazing how all those civilians were safely able to negotiate the dangerous tree fellers and falling trees to access Tokai to pull some aliens. Maybe an invite from TMNP to have a look around and pull some aliens out to the MTB community would have got a better result?
  17. I think what he meant to say was the alien growth "isn't a problem" Not that its not our problem, but I'm happy with either. Just means it wan't really an issue whether you pitched and pulled aliens or not ( so not sure why that comment was made).
  18. Sorry but thats just bitchy, counterproductive and again, pure conjecture. If you can't deal with logic, rather keep quiet.
  19. Point is that for there to be trails at least some of that alien thicket has to be cleared surely? TMNP don't want the aliens there (I think - more conjecture or is that a fact? :-))
