  1. Weirdly enough, i rather like this bike, which is a first for me and this brand...
  2. Actually its looks are more like that very heavy entry level Giant thing - whatsitcalled again? No Maestro on that "beauty" . I preferred the old look but it seems Scott have tried hard to design a good bike. I love the slacker/longer geo - progress in making marathon and XC bikes proper MTB's is all good IMO.
  3. Just entered my wife and I - should be a proper mtb ride on superb trails...
  4. Ya, not a bad showing at all. Also an illustration of how much stiffer the competition is in the WC...
  5. I agree. Great when we see more of him i.e when he's on the podium rather than just in the team vidoes...
  6. Add trees and shrubs track side to that mix and it can get interesting... That said I am quite happy with my 785s.
  7. He is indeed - but I'm not sure he is trying as hard as GM to go faster this year. His results have been dismal for such a talented rider.
  8. Just his last Fort William I believe - still a few more races this year. Ratboy is off the wall - they need to reign him in a bit. His last comment "I had a wicked weekend pity about the racing" or something like that. Priorities perhaps? :-)
  9. I think the colour is the only thing you will notice - so Fox Kash fork owners will pay a premium to match their forks while RS owners will get a cheaper match :-)
  10. For anything other than Helderberg/Steilte, an XC bike is usually more than adequate. Just remember to drop your seat. The trails at this venue do include some steep roll ins and sustained downhill especially on day 2 but nothing overly technical.
  11. Good fun but my feeling is this can never be your one and only bike. If you buy a mid range ali version it will weigh a tonne. Put on decent strong tyres - if they ever become available - and it will weigh a tonne more. Don't do that and you are far more at risk of side wall tears that a tube and sealant wont fix. Rather run wide rims and 2.4 tyres on a normal bike. I'll change my mind when DH and enduro racers start running plus size...
  12. Hey, I am local to CT, so not fair :-). I am thinking of races like the Delvera and Uitkyk enduros which are basically on marathon style single track - sure its tech in a few places, but nothing like Jonkers Canaries or even the Red Phoenix. On the Uitkyk tracks, a light pedal friendly bike like a 120mm semi-trail bike is probably the answer. Steilte/Helderberg has a very much more trail/enduro/dh orientation so enduros there are best tackled with a proper bike. Speaking of Barelli - we have our own version - G Barnard who won the Uitkyk event on a Pyga Stage!
  13. Most definitely enduro if you look at the spec. Thing is that in SA most of what are called enduro races could be raced and won on a marathon bike - in fact in many cases the lighter shorter travel better pedaling bike is probably a better choice than a trail bike. That said I am not swapping anytime soon...
  14. Ya I agree - these things are steep take off and landings and I doubt a DH bike will help you. You have to be precise and get your landings perfectly angled...the more agile the bike the better
  15. It is SA so its bigger and better okay :-). That ramp for one looks taller than anything else around and the jumps are huge. I saw the first tower they built there 1.5 years ago or so and it was scary just thinking about climbing up it never mind steering a bike down it...
  16. Agree on the looks of that linkage - have never been a fan, but if it works, why not...
  17. That was a fun event on a beaut day in CT!
  18. Wonder if you'll be able to buy the 26" versions here? My last two DHR2's cost around R550 each. Eish...
