  1. Envy is a terrible thing:-) Enjoy boys - be sure to put some pics up as you go...
  2. what is advanced riding and what does the Redstone race have in it that other fun rides don't have?
  3. Damn site is gone - I feel like I really missed out :-)
  4. He refused and asked Mama to take him down the jeep track instead... bloody chicken these toddlers today...
  5. Brilliant opportunity for Thomas and a trip to Whistler...
  6. + 1 for the super gravity casing. I have over a year on my HD SG ( about 20-30 km a week riding Tokai's Xc and dh tracks and some enduro races) as a front and still going strong. No flats, no issues, fit and forget.
  7. We rode up with baby Ben on my back on Saturday and encountered the work in progress on Dh 1 and 2. The tree/rock drop dh2 is much better - its now a bit higher but broader as a result so less chance of a pedal or bar strike there. The little jump just before the road at the bottom of dh2 is also fun. We watched a largish gent on an anthem picking his way down dh2 - his bike had squeaky brakes so he made quite a noise down there and Vasbyt. At least he didn't drag his brakes over the lower jump. The planked drop in on dh1 as OM says, is great slow or fast and the rest of dh1 is riding well too.
  8. Excellent guys I'll look for the toll booth when I ride it again - sorry, had to take the family away for a few days - it being school hols and all. Much drier but pretty much just as cold in the Southern Cape.
  9. I'll say it - put more air in your tyres and float like a butterfly over those rocks :-)
  10. Thx to the guys who did the clay filling et al on DH1 - rode it yesterday evening. The jump before the first big berm is now big enough to make clearing the ditch a piece of cake and the rest is riding beautifully.
  11. Read up on helmet safety studies. The cheaper helmets (read unfashionable and unattractive to the brand conscious) have been found to offer virtually identical protection to the ones costing 10 times the price. You are for the most part being ripped off for fashion and branding, not protection.Helmets costs a few $ to make. their pricing is all in packaging, fancy graphics and making new molds every so often to bring out the next spring fashion statement. There is new technology coming out slowly like the MIPS system found on POC, some Scott helmets and one or two others as well as some new materials and applications (eg Smith Optics) and one or two others. For those perhaps the higher price is more justifiable.
  12. But, the high end people all use the same factories - The Etto Champery, for instance is made by Wind Helmets in China. The fit is superb and its better than a Yukon with its full polycarb shell to protect the foam and extended coverage at the rear. Comparing the Etto range to a Mr Pices cheapie would be a mistake.
  13. The problem is a lack of speed out the wide rocky right hander I would imagine. Even with a perfect run, still a long way to the transition...
  14. Thx guys - will go give the Dh a go later today. Still working on riding one of the jump/drops - the last one on dh1 that requires a r/h turn to make it...
  15. What is a mega drop?
  16. I liked the Bronson I had - it pumped up tubeless and had good sidewalls but a weak tread - it wore down very very fast at the back and eventually flatted at Tokai - a stick or something went thru in the tread area which is unusual for a heavy duty tyre. Replaced it with a 2.3 Nevegal which I run at 1.8 - 2 Bar. Much tougher and harder wearing.
  17. Great bikes but we don't see the cheaper models here and the top range stuff is stupidly expensive compared to say Canyon and YT...
  18. Sounds good - what time and where will the work start - may need to find the site as I doubt we'll make it there on time...
  19. Away that weekend - School hols and all. Ouch.
  20. He did say at Meerendal - are their any proper bumps there?
  21. Dumb move on any rigid bike I recon...
  22. Exactly my point - so its pointless to wait because we'll be waiting for ever...
  23. I am missing my 26er right now - because it's at home...
  24. If it slips again this winter what do we do? Or the next winter or the next...?
  25. Lol, we agree, but we like it here. Now go do some free riding down a mine dump...
