  1. This is great - I was always riding on my 150mm travel Reign as its my only bike. 47km even in the wind is a walk in the park now, especially with a bruised shoulder, cracked ribs and ITB. Yay.
  2. Just got me a set of minion DHR 2's Tubeless ready et al. Saving them for when my tyres are really shot to hell...
  3. Many reasons to like Five10 actually. At least when you're in a pair of Hellcats you don't look like a dork off the ballet set :-)
  4. Who cares about climbing :-) Its a 29er and thats a bigger hindrance right there...
  5. Okay, so despite the lower BB its not a pedal klapping nightmare :-)
  6. The Momsen is a mono-pivot, the Spaz, a horst link i.e. vpp of sorts, thanks to the pivot on the chain stay and generally regarded as offering better suspension performance under braking. Nothing wrong with a good mono-pivot however - See Pyga and others. How can a lower bottom bracket lead to fewer pedal strikes?
  7. Awesome - dirt and tar bashing of the highest order - how about cylcocross bikes guys?
  8. That is my dream bike at the moment... at a price of R140k as tested, its going to remain that way :-(
  9. If that is the price there are better options. Merida should have focused on the suspension and put slx or deore cranks on instead among a few other things. A pike or at least a fox 34 should be on this bike...
  10. Front with me. Remember I ran a pacestar SG version at the front with zero issues - its now at the back. The new front is the Trailstar so a softer gripier compound. It works well, great grip and so on, but it is surprising that the knobs are taking strain when the little mold tags or whatever those things are called are still on the side knobs... Bronson would work out front - fits v well tubeless.. I found it wore out v quickly at the rear and after a stick or stone puncture through the tread casing I gave up on it
  11. So I have ridden the HD trailsar as a front tyre for about 100km, if that. It certainly has grip is truck loads, but I can already see the side knobs attempting to part company with the casing... Not falling off yet, but durability seems way less than teh SG version that is still doing duty on the rear...

  14. Ha, that's exactly what I have just done. My rear is now a HD SG 2.35 and it looks massive on the rear flow rim while the snakeskin trailstar 2.35 on a slightly narrower DT rim looks a bit skinny - grip is good though and bike feels a lot more plush out back with that big boy...
  15. More stuff like this front page please Hub Admin :-) Need to shift perceptions of what else MTB is all about here in marathon land...
  16. Now that's how all XC/marathon racers should grow up -skills then fitness :-)
  17. http://p.vitalmtb.com/photos/users/109/photos/83525/s1600_2015_Fezzari_Nebo_Peak.jpg?1414259672 Look at the spec on this bike for $3200. It makes the Giant Reign 2 look crappy at $3400...
  18. I think the lead time was too short and the cost to enter too high - it should have been scheduled for December 2015 at a lower price. AH was still doing PR in Europe until recently and people needed time to get used to the idea and get training. However another possibility is that the target market had bought into it fully - after all how many people do the Freedom Challenge and the Divide races? Very few actually. So 100 entries - if that is the case, was perhaps all they could hope for even at less than R110k a pop? Just read WE's interview details - sounds promising. I really hope it goes ahead next year...
