  1. They did indeed - 10 sets I believe. I saw the boxes and had a look at a set...
  2. CWC has no more XT wheelsets - all sold out overnight no can say when will be in stock again. The site does not indicate this until you try and buy. Would be a good idea to get the site to show stock levels guys. I am all for buying local, but then we need good prices and stock levels we can rely on. I did get an XT chain and 11-34 casette for a great price tho...Thanks guys.
  3. Knievel, we dont make allowances for cyclists and bikers to get a thank you - its about saving lives, period. Nobody is asking you to give way - just be alert and that of course applies to the cyclists and bikers too. Fact remains they nearly always come off second best in an incident. Maybe time to drop the ego down a few notches? You seem to have just the kind of attitude that the Think Bike campaign was created to try and change - and you are a cyclist. Incredible.
  4. I am avoiding both of these - I think they are really just rent a crowd events, you know to add to the hype for the real racers, the Epic guys and gals, or maybe I'm too cycnical :-) As such I'd rather not be there and save my money for the Lourensford classic when the focus is well and truly on the race I have entered. My 2c
  5. We are all t%sers on our bikes, road or mtb or in our cars, every now and then. It doesnt help our cause with motorists to behave in a seemingly unsafe manner especially in SA where motorists are bundles of road rage waiting for an outlet. I have just stuck the big yellow "Think Bike" sticker on my wagon and its a good reminder to me every time I see it...
  6. For R 375 odd you cant go wrong with Shimano 520's - strong and simple - never managed to break three or so sets in 10 years. Bearings will wear eventually, but I bet the XT and XTR do too.
  7. Try the lights at deal extreme - magicshine is the brand name. Mine came to R740 including Vat at this end and postage. they claim 900 lumen but from what i read its more like 700. Still perfect for fast d/h descending and very light. Has an SSC p7 emitter which is a very good one.
  8. If you coulld stretch your budget to R8 - R10K, you'd be able to get a far better bike component wise. Look at the Schwinn Moab range - ali stanchioned RS forks and XT mix components - They are being discounted in CT at the moment. Nothing wrong with Suntour, but there's no comparison weight or performance with a Fox. You are getting a steel stanchioned coil sprung fork without rebound control and limited pre load adjustment. Ghost Face - do you carry different springs for the Suntour XCM V2 HLO - my G/friend has one and the spring rate is too stiff for her weight?
  9. Next gem please oh master of assumptions and geralizations
  10. Shame, poor BigBong one incident of cycling thugery second hand and he's an angry little man who hates all cyclists - so much he has to come on a thread about cycling deaths to vent. well done, keep it up we need the entertainment, you one eyed road rager.
  11. No he didnt do it on purpose but he could do jail time for culpable homicide.
  12. Agree - that forum is populated by a bunch of pimply computer geek sh*te stirrer's - best to just ignore them - rational debate not one of their strong suits...Headshot2010-03-09 08:18:23
  13. Oakpics are pathetic in comparison...
  14. There are just so many situation on the road where cyclists are in grave danger. The overtaking car is a common event - I have had cars overtake in my face as I head down a local hill - impatience is the problem, and the fact that we arent that easy to see sometimes. Does anyone know which road this happened on?
  15. This is terrible news. The driver will be charged and convicted of culpabe homicide I am sure. My condlolnces to the families of the victims. I have been hit by a car before and had several close shaves. I hardly do any road riding as a result. Last weekend I was on a short stretch of the R62 between Red stone Hills and Calitzdorp on my MTB - we ducked onto the gravel verge everytime a car came past. Not sure where these guys were riding but I think those country "freeways" are really unsafe - no yellow lane and high speeds with the shocking driver attitude in this country to add to it.
  16. I only use my MULE for long bundu rides where some extra eats, liquid and tools may be required. I far prefer riding with nothing on my back and a bottle in the cage. On a race or training ride you can always top up if your route goes past a tap or water point. Buy decent close fitting cycle tops with roady style pockets to keep your spare tube, phone and so on in. I put money, a tube, patches and chain breaker in a zip lock bag and carry that in my back pocket most rides. Headshot2010-03-03 07:15:34
  17. http://raystrax.com/PathAnalysis/index.htm Read this for an indepth analysis of bike suspension designs and bogus claims by manufacturers which abound....
  18. Yow, this thread got kinda off topic very quickly. ActiveC I sympathize but it sounds as if your route is dangerous anyway. As far as runners on the road are concerned, I do have an issue with some of them. Some, not all, expect cyclists to make allowances for them being on the road surface running against the flow of traffic. Upshoot is the biker has to swerve out and endanger his/herself. Thats not on in my book.
