  1. Yes it does have that advantage for the rest of us but in fact all you have to do is shop around for Shimano Deore, brand new. My wife just went next level on her 10 speed 1x with an 11 -46 cassette and 10/11 speed derailleur for the massive sum of R1400.00.
  2. Dunno why I thought you were a chem engineer 🙂
  3. But he's a mechanical engineer and you are a ____________ engineer? I think time will tell whether any of his concerns have merit or not. Like when you try and get your gears working and there's no scope to adjust the hanger. Oh, but they say its indestructible?Hold my beer SRAM! Right now, the price makes it an absolute nonsense IMO. I love the fact that Shimano are making sure that "normal" cyclists have decent long lasting and reliable shifting be it 10 speed or 12 speed at a price that is affordable. To me this new eagle is just elite nonsense that will remain unaffordable for most cyclists. The youtube shills are at it in force on this one...
  4. I actually read your post this time and watched the video a few more times... Hard to judge speed but it looks like the SUv was going plenty fast and probably reacted late leading to a loss of control. Fortuners aren't known for high speed stability and cornering prowess when pushed from what I hear. On the biker front, it looks like they were entering a freeway at rather low speed - which is my pet hate about drivers - you need to get on at the freeway speed. The group can always regroup if they get split up at this time - I don't agree with trying to manipulate the traffic or occupy a lane the way they did.
  5. Feeling a bit jealous of all the riding pics... my slow motion DR Big moto restoration is proceeding, well very slowly. I have however picked up the cudgels after an extended festive season lay off and got going again. I'm working back to front and a problem I had was the worn out chain slider. Amazingly Suzuki can still supply one at nearly R1k after a few weeks. I decided to make myself one and eventually managed to source a 13mm thick HDPE cutting board which I have cut and carved and glued and heated until I had something that looks rather good IMHO. It was cheap and a lot of fun to make. (The chain is clearly a bit rusty but the sprockets are not worn out and I'm leaving this as is for now.) Next is to resolve some airbox issues and possibly order a new air filter, then some final carb setting up.
  6. Yes, also find it strange people are trying to apportion blame in a situation where a speeding driver, possibly on her phone, suddenly meets a truck in the r/h lane and loses control. Size of the group is irrelevant as you point out. Driver probably not even aware there were any riders on the road. What an idiot.
  7. Looks ready to fit on a fat finger...
  8. Ya but you can probably buy two Novatecs for the price of one of those.
  9. Yes, I thought Novatec had branched out into jewellery.
  10. I agree the genuine green slime works well, but I was asking where some Stans tyre sealant would work in a tube. I suspect it would get messy...
  11. For sure - I'm thinking of ditching them as my sponsor since I heard this terrible news...
  12. Anyone ever tried this - I have a puncture filled 24" tube on my sons bike that needs an improvement on the slime that's in there which isn't working very well...
  13. Oh no - Leatt has gone to the dark side. Next they\'ll be making TT helmets and shoe covers....
  14. Funnily enough in all my CTCTs, (15) and fun rides since the 1990's I've only ever had one crash - caused by someone losing it in a small peloton on the old Stellenbosch Cycle tour. Hyper vigilance thanks to a few years of commuter motorcycling probably helps a bit too.
  15. My wife rode with a friend of hers and did it in around ehr ballpark time considering her 5-6 ride mostly flat training. That said, some bad riding from a rider caused another rider to klap into her and she and her riding partner were taken down damaging her bike and bruising her left hand. Considering the conditions were pretty good its bizarre that there were so many incidents....
  16. Love it - I think I may have seen you at the bottom of Wynberg Hill on the M3 while spectating with my son.
  17. Agree on Paarl - its a fun track and the easiest, smoothest shuttle road you'll ever find. The Tokai option mentioned by Eddy is a long way around and won't give you heaps of runs due to the distances and traffic involved and isn't a great option on a full on DH bike due to the flattish pedaling needed to access the DH line.
  18. I'm a very part time DH racer - haven't entered one for at least 2 years. If you've done any of the local races you will know that the tracks are not hugely technical but you do require good tech/jumping skills to do well i.e go fast. Tokai does provide some decent practice tracks but they are quite short and there are no uplift possibilities. The jonkers round of the WC DH is coming up shortly I think. The shuttle/practice day before race day provides a very good training opportunity. Jonkers DH track is always open but does require a serious pedal so an enduro bike is the better option there and Tokai. Are you on a real DH bike or enduro bike?
  19. I'm totally in agreement with you. but enduro and DH are not financially viable anywhere in SA and should never have been seen as such. The DH organizers know this and run a tight ship for the good of the sport. The WC Enduro peeps know this too I believe and have brought the same ethos to Enduro. Easier courses encourage parents to get their kids entered and that grows the sport.
  20. https://www.giant-bicycles.com/za/bikes/cross-and-gravel-bikes/gravel Latest enduro bike for events like this from Giant 🙂
  21. Every riding video I saw on insta showed people pedaling like mad, almost everywhere. Flat course or what?
  22. They had to - because a clean looking bike is where its at. Headset cable routing included. I think form over function has hit a new low. That said the dumbass brain has overstayed its welcome by several years...
  23. Isn't it far cooler to have rims with no decals and avoid any association with ENVE?
  24. Just pop it in walk mode, add a range extender and send it on its way?
