  1. Off topic, but from what I can see, emission requirements have added levels of complexity to modern engines that cause all sorts of issues later in the engine/car's life EGR valves and DPF filters in diesels and so-called long life oils in gearboxes that mechanics don't ever change but according to the gear box manufacturer should be done every100k km. Etc...
  2. Maybe but I really could not be bothered. I have LHM in both and am very picky when it comes to lever feel and lack of return speed and I'm totally happy with how they feel on the LHM.
  3. Precisely my point. BMW spec certain long life oil but plenty of manufacturers supply the same spec available at nearly any motor dealer.
  4. My last post on the topic I swear. imagine if moto and car manufacturers said you had to use their overpriced fluids rather than generic brake and engine oil or you'd void your warranty. Obviously if you were to put LHM in your Dot5 brakes or two stroke in your turbo diesel sump there would be a problem but where the stuff is the same product effectively, and you're supposed to pay 5x as much as the generic if you can get it or void your warranty I just get irritated and put off the product. The bicycle industry needs to evolve a bit and stop trying to rip consumers a new one.
  5. Its laughable that stuff gets here quicker from the UK/Ireland than from down the road in the Swartland. Rapide get stuff to you the next day, car parts ex Jhb I order sometimes come in 2-3 days. I've had equally swift delivery off Bikehub via Postnet 🙂
  6. Just for comparison, my aluminium Enduro with 2.6/2.5 trail tyres, foam inserts, dropper and aluminium rims weighs in at around 16kg.
  7. On extended marathon events like the Epic the bikes are generally at the heavier end of the spectrum to make them more durable eg tyres and droppers to aid descending. No Epic rider, pro or not hasn't finished or not won because his or her bike weighed too much.
  8. Many marathon pros run droppers so its a mystery why the bike doesn't come equipped with one unless its just to differentiate it from the 12Omm version?.
  9. Yes I have, with Shimano and Total. There are many many claims as to the cause of the bite point issue. All I can say is that since properly cleaning and servicing my old 785's and using Total in them, I haven't had this particular issue. The lever feel is brilliant and that's not just my opinion.
  10. Obviously it works its mineral hydraulic fluid. You didnt complete your sentence or do you mean to say the lever feels funny with Total? Actually, it doesn't at least not with Shimano and its hard to see how it could - if it is thicker, its ever so slight so no, don't worry the rest of you, you can use it and save a packet rather than get reamed by the push bike industry.
  11. We would not expect you to do anything less than tow the company line. The performance requirement is probably BS of course - there is no magic in hydraulic mineral oil and as far as I know, Formula isn't an oil company so theirs is probably made by Total or Motul or one of the other companies. My Shimano XTs work perfectly on Total.
  12. A solo woman rider, friend of ours, was mugged in Hout Bay on the track next to the river in the horse riding area last week. (I wasn't there and have never ridden that track hence the slightly vague description). Perp appeared from the trail side brandishing a knife and stole her iphone which was mounted on her bars and demanded her bike and that she empty her pockets This resulted in her house keys falling into his possession as well. Incident reported to local watch group and bike and some other possessions of the perp were recovered close to the scene. Also reported to local SAPS.
  13. Total LHM Plus at takealot - R192 for 1l. Imagine paying R300 for 250ml of the stuff from evo - if they even had stock.
  14. I feel sorry for you okes in Gauteng...driza bone down here in CT 🙂
  15. Also check Hmbini's vid on the Hyper.
  16. Its black friday for Cyril - ex-president going cheap today...
  17. Yes to some people lean means too little oil which is wrong. More oil means less actual fuel in the mixture so a leaner running engine. I had a CR450 which was a total dog to start and keep running. Never broke but was so hard to start when hot it was almost useless if you fell over and stalled far away from civilization, like Atlantis dunes.
  18. Yes probably hence the ability to carry on. It never felt too good after that as you can imagine. It did lock up properly though at the time.
  19. Belated reply... I had an RD350 in the mid to late eighties. It was one kick to start and never missed a beat until... one day the mysteriously not smoking exhaust revealed itself as a seized engine - at 140km/h. (the oil pump feed to the right cylinder had failed) Luckily I was quick enough to grab the clutch and she only skidded a few metres. After the engine cooled down I mansged to start and ride the bike again. So to me 2 strokes rock.
  20. I see the tracks have been added. The DH line is also smoothish - I've raced it before, but takes a lot of commitment to go fast. There are variations to the line so it may avoid some of the features I suspect.
  21. Are they smoothish - wondering if my steel HT might be the deal for this?
  22. A few years back my nearly new bike from the big S was chewing through rear hub bearings. The concept store mechanic claimed this was normal and most people had their hub bearings replaced every few months - at hundreds a pop. I never went back and got a different hub A few years later and its never had a new bearing.
  23. Judging by the behind the scenes at the end, he's lucky to have finished this one without ending himself. Every video he makes must result in a trip in an ambulance and surgical intervention.
  24. I'm glad I live in CT, we have our problems but being punched in the face by a ginger on an MTB is a rarity. 🙂
