  1. I think the Status or some other slackish long travel bike will do wonders for your dh speed, safety and fun. The Camber has really dated geo by today's standards...
  2. You need to learn brake modulation and then you can use your front brake on tech descents. Its where the best braking is in a 70/30 ration to the rear. That said i like my rear brake too.
  3. I'm also 27 but trapped in a 56 year old body. It took me until 51 to break my collar bone and I still do dumb stuff on my bike regularly and some of it results in hard crashes. What bike are you on? If its more trail than enduro that could account for some crashes if you're exceeding its capabilities. That said a Status might be a move in the right direction. The other thing is to upskill, be it by watching tutorials or coaching. Never stop riding!
  4. The courage of a lion and an elephantine wallet....
  5. Came here looking for advice on extending my battery range. Pleasantly surprised ๐Ÿ™‚
  6. Good luck trying to get one in SA - I was told quite a while back they aren't being imported anymore.
  7. Maybe its a lap race on a 1.7 k circuit? An afternoon start in Paarl for an Enduro event is going to turn it into a suffer fest at this time of the year...
  8. I eventually found that the Rock Razor I used became so poor under braking and always had poor climbing traction so I got rid of it. I even tried it on the front for a bit in search of low rolling resistance with some cornering grip. I think a tyre like an Aggressor is way better than any semi-slick. I currently run one at the back and it rolls super fast on its hard rubber center knobs and has great cornering and climbing grip. If you ride a reasonably slack bike a grippy tyre like an assegai or Magic Mary up front doesn't roll too bad. Out back a different story.
  9. Not really of you value rear braking grip. There is a reason why semi-slick tyres have fallen by the wayside.
  10. Why - it says "JH Enduro" - that's the comparison. The JH DH track is less technical than at least three of the stages on the JH enduro. Paarl is not very technical at all and Zevenwacht requires good jumping skills rather than an ability to ride rocks and tech.
  11. Sorry no. I think bikes are mainly designed to be sold en masse to the masses.
  12. You've given me some ideas about messing around with the cassettes. I have a few slightly worn cogs off old MTB groupsets that might help improve the low end gearing...
  13. I think if you ride in gravity oriented kit, make jokes about spandex and drink only craft beer/fancy coffee and hang out in groups you may be one. I know I have certain traits, but generally ride alone, so maybe I'm not ๐Ÿ™‚. Or perhaps you're a #gravelbro. Its very confusing.
  14. Arguably that's still a better look than the stained sweaty spandex ....
  15. Any piece of trail that's vaguely downhill fits the bill as a #enduro track actually. FYI - DH tracks as raced at the WC DH series are not the most gnarly things you'll find. They're designed to encourage participation and avoid injury. The JH enduro course is both physically more demanding and technically harder than all the WC DH races . Its a bit of a crazy situation because shuttle uplifted DH riders are at least wearing better protection than most #enduro bros. The sport has to grow somehow and having events like the Paarl fest races is a way to do that. I think the #endurobro's are worried the XC okes are going to out pedal them ๐Ÿ™‚
  16. My 2005 road bike has 105 9s and it works great - just the granny gear that is lacking but I can't bring myself to even spend on a wider range cassette considering how little time I spend on it. Imagine if MTB hadn't been invented - most bike shops and repairers would not exist as road bikes just don't wear out like MTB's. Oh ya, I made it work better by putting some used XT pulleys on the derailleur and it went like new again. Unless yours is totally w#nked out I'd just tweak it a bit and keep on trucking until the cranks fall off.
  17. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/podcast-chris-ball-talks-discovery-eso-and-the-future-of-world-cup-racing.html#cid3480796 I have done a quick check on GCN+ which seems to be our option. According to the app its available to us in SA at around R720 p/a or R125 pm. Does anyone else here subscribe already? I seem to recall some issues around its availability? If it is available its not that expensive and maybe worth taking a month to see if coverage is any good, just not sure how it will integrate with my android box. Comments and advice plz.
  18. For silly money you can get Deor 10/11 speed derailleur and 11-46 cassette (10s) All but does away with range issues and replacement costs are so cheap. Just fitted this to my wife's Zula. We did buy it at CRC where the two items cost R1400. Just pair it with a decent shifter and you're gold. I have a Saint 10s shifter on my HT bike. Hands down the best shifter I've ever used and old stock and or decent second hand XT and up should be available somewhere. 12s is a rip off esp decent SRAM cassettes.
  19. I have Dakine Drafter which costs R500 on special a few years back. Been bomb proof but sadly not available here anymore. Anything Camelbak is usually excellent though.
  20. Yes, the lower leg oil. Relatively straightforward to service the legs.
  21. The oil you refer to is not damper oil, but lower leg lubricant. Refer to the manual for damper oil specs. Its probably still 5wt?
  22. Join the "Friends of Table Mountain" action group on FB for updates on the repairs groups are effecting on TM hiking trails and other news and developments. The wooden bridges and walk ways on the Table are falling apart and no response from TMNP re repairs. Bark stripping is rife in Newlands Forest and there are people camping and making open fires above Kalk Bay. Scant if any response from TMNP. Woefully ill-equipped to manage a park like this. They have suffered a major loss of income during Covid but are no doubt raking in the 100 bar p/a they get from Cape Point gate takings etc again.
  23. Bottom line is that with SANP doing little to no jeep track maintenance, some of the MTB routes which would have suited gravel bikes are now enduro tracks in places.
  24. Guys, this is why MTB and suspension were invented. Keep the gravel bikes for the roads ๐Ÿ™‚
  25. And what do the people whose wheel you suck have to say about it?
