  1. Some hubs seem to have really poor internal tolerances which lead to failures. The failure I describe was after a few years on a Funn 142x12 hub so I wasn't too upset, but I had a trash Spesh rear hub that chewed bearings from the outset and was clearly made very poorly. My wife's really old DT star ratchet wheelset has never needed new bearings and they still feel quite acceptable.
  2. Is the hub also only 1 month old? I had the bearing in a freehub fail and it only made the noise when actually pedaling. I was convinced it was the seat post until I realized it made the same horrible noise when standing or seated while pedaling.
  3. For a bit of entertainment and proper trails try this
  4. Looks like a lot of fun but quite costly and far to travel from CT.
  5. I think it was a roid rage induced crash into Nino?
  6. But does it come with a skin suit and an automatic weight reduction diet and exercise program to maximize the benefits??
  7. Well along with my internally insulated bars I got some Nukeproof tyre inserts. So I am filling as much as possible with foam. Frame is a good idea actually - then after filling you pull oyut the cables and you have internal frame tubes for when they need replacement. Wow - uses are endless.
  8. The commentary is terrible and the short recaps are pretty poor too. Such amazing tracks and proper DH trails but poor media. Supported by Spar - so weird. I bet its cheaper to do the Swiss version than our local one, even if you fly there and stay in an air bnb. Anyone done the maths?
  9. You jest, I had considered trying just that. The stuff doesn't extend to the end of the bars but you can see the green foam if you shine a torch in. It looks just like that Sista foam shite.
  10. How about SBS brake pads for a moto - R280. Easily 10 times the pad material as some MTB brakes, last many thousands of km but SRAM want R400 for theirs.
  11. I think your answer lies on the Spank website - they even do it to some rims they sell. I can't feel the foam when riding 🙂
  12. Could be but I've played a round a bit and sometimes wear some long stretchy gym/running pants over my cycling shorts in winter/rain. Keeps you clean and I think a bit warmer than without. You also get fleecy lycra longs with padding that are very cosy.
  13. I raise you some foam filled Spank 800's
  14. So he lied and the battery doesn't hit the tyre when the shock bottoms out?
  15. That's actually not the reason for the hack.
  16. Maybe watch the video - it explains all. He's short, as many riders are and even with his hack, the battery connector was knocked off on a hard hit.
  17. I posted on another thread about the sales that are now on at CRC et al. I bought two Spank rims at R1k each less than the advertised price here (if they were available which they're not), plus some Nukeproof rim defender inserts for about R800 for two wheels at a lesser discount but still much cheaper than anything equivalent here. Bars were about R1k less than the price here and nothing available anyway. These prices were at an exchange rate of R20 or so to the pound. Crazy.
  18. Some bike set up changes my side. I finally managed to get hold of a super hi rise bar - a 75mm rise Spank Spike DH bar. I've managed one ride to test it and its an interesting change. Gone is that feeling of being too far over the front and I now have a more evenly balanced weight distribution with more of a bias towards the rear. The fork runs with a tad less sag and the back a bit more at the same pressures as before the bar change. Wheelies and manuals, such as mine are, are much easier. Steering on mellower terrain feels a little slower but I enjoy the feeling of having a bit more control - i.e having to steer the bike rather than a the super fast turn in it had with my weight further forward. I feel as if I have better feed back at the limit. The downside to the high bar is uphill pedaling where my previous XC ish bar height put me in a decent position. At least now I have the option to lower the bar by about 15 mm by removing some spacers if needed and/or add a bit of extra air out back. I already think the advantages outweigh the negatives but I still need to do some testing on steeper terrain. And get used to the look of the bike - its very BMX 🙂
  19. Weird that in those conditions not more riders in longs.
  20. There is no clarity on the pay to view yet. Redbull is totally out as far as UCI mtb events are concerned however. ESO is the new media partner. It's the crowd who run the EWS. No more Warner on commentary. Going to be rather dull I'm afraid.
  21. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/uci-and-warner-bros-discovery-release-2023-world-cup-and-ews-calendar.html The blurb talks about the "commercialization" of mountain biking. Isn't that what we all moan about here all the time? I suspect that this may mean less coverage that actual enthusiasts will enjoy and more ra ra for the masses. Lets see...
  22. Too much money, not enough taste. Eish.
  23. Try again, they've probably been upgraded by now. The experience tends to vary I find - yesterday at N1 city, the cashiers were more intent on spraying and wiping the conveyor belt than taking money.
  24. I bought some as a joke. Its just as shite as regular Squirt. I prefer that other SA stuff in the red bottle because it seems to stay on longer.
  25. https://www.specialized.com/za/en/s-works-carbon-zee-cage-ii--right/p/173135?color=274179-173135&searchText=43020-0502 R1450 28g around 1/5 the price weighs about 20g more, if that. I find it offensive that they even sell this cr@p.
