  1. Remember that long winded and frustrating wheel build that started with CRC sending the order in two packages and the wrong rear hub? Well its finally nearing completion. I got a refund and on top of that managed to sell the 142 rear hub so I almost got all my money back... thanks CRC. Just got a Rapide boost hub, black Alpina bladed spokes and brass nipples. Finished lacing both wheels this morning and they are currently getting trued and tensioned by someone who actually knows what they're doing. Should be test riding this weekend. The bladed spokes look amazing and the Rapide hub is going to make rather a lot of noise. The build weighs in at just under 2kg excl rim tape and valves which is pretty good considering the cost which will be around R4k all in. Cant wait to knock a few hundred grams of rotational mass from my bike.
  2. This should be very interesting - as he says in the video, he will need to do some physical conditioning over winter to have a chance. The videos should be even better than before...
  3. Agree with you on parking at Bootleggers. Unfortunately we have to park outside the picnic area because it closes before the gate higher up does and in summer there lots of riding to be had. I have parked at the Bike Park before but I was out long before 7 and it does cost R10.00. I guess you could park where the dog walkers do near lower Tokai which is probably better than at Bootleggers.
  4. I have never encountered an aggressive baboon in many years riding at Tokai. Yesterday they were all over the dh3 jumps when I rode down so had to detour around them. No problem. I dont expect them to move out of my way although they generally do if youre bearing down on them. The other day exiting Fairy, a medium adult ran ahead of me as I descended and kept looking over its shoulder at me. It was hilarious. Took him around 50 m plus before he veered into the bush.
  5. But exactly the same arguments can be used against e MTBs. There is even MTB on Zwift now.
  6. Maybe the thread should be re titled "Statistically speaking,do eBikes permit more dwisses to be on the mountain than ever before?"
  7. Perhaps he forgot to charge it - or switch it on? Then there was the story about an eBiker who forced some elderly riders off the single track as he tried to crack his E Assist Strava time at Tokai recently...
  8. My experience is on 10 and 11 speed but id have to give it to Shimano. My Saint shifter is flawless and the double upshifts are a major drawcard. GX looks and feels lower budget than XT especially that ugly derailleur. When the Lotto comes in Im going XTR.
  9. Demand became so high organizers flocked to create events and popular events morphed into three eg S2C and W2W. There is a decline in the number of entries so perhaps some of the extra events will fall away as will the not so popular races. Maybe the entry fees will actually become affordable again. The cheaper grass roots events will gain popularity.
  10. Then again, how accurate can this be for SA, where most bikes sold are hyper exciting marathon bikes rather than ultra boring trail/enduro "weapons".
  11. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I'm not going to make it this weekend. Maybe the next shuttle day instead.
  12. Maybe just burn the whole bike?
  13. Add more oil as you would with a squeaky hinge. Duh!
  14. At 81 Quid a pop, that's a non-starter...the whole brake can be had for 100 Euros or so
  15. Anyone ever managed to purchase just a SRAM caliper? I'd like to put Code calipers on my Guide R levers. Apparently this will be just like Guide RE's which are quite an improvement on the Guides for stopping power. No such thing as a separate caliper listed anywhere however...
  16. That is quite bizarre. Unless you're supposed to be so pro you have a car following you with bidons handed to you every so often.. :-)
  17. A bit of a shocker. There have been two deaths in the last month from crashes, both Canadians. The first was a top skier who died after collapsing her chest/lung after hitting a tree and now a head injury for Jordie. I loved his lunatic videos and stop at nothing approach. I wonder what actually happened. Sounds like they were off the beaten track and so I wonder if medical attention may have been slow or non-existent...
  18. Weirdly enough I managed to double hole my Aggressor rear tyre on Sunday. I picked up the front off a root and the rear went straight into a low but very sharp edged rock. Rim was damaged so plugs didn't work until I could get the tyre off, straighten the ding and shift the tyre around a bit. Seems fine now however.
  19. Depending on the crank, take a look at Park Tool. I have their puller which works on Race Face as well as old Shimano road bike cranks. If it's SRAM or Shimano external BB you dont need a puller, just the right sized Allen keys.
  20. Lol, shaddup man, I'm trying to catch the last gondola of the day in Morzine on my 2020 Enduro.
  21. Not pointing fingers at anyone on this thread but I wonder if the rumour mongering about organizers (who do it for nothing) making $$ aren't put out there to give people greater permission to complain about the value they receive or other issues? Perhaps most people can't believe some people donate heaps of free time to causes they support or enjoy, and for that reason alone?
  22. I ardently recommend the Ardent - tread is quite low but there is lots of it, especially at the sides where you need it most on a tyre. Haven't come close to a scary front slide on my HT with the Ardent there and it rolls relatively well...
