  1. good luck finding one of those hubs I have searched every where and no luck if you do find one let me know my understanding is the labour and if you need new spokes you almost may as well get a new wheelset I have a slight rough running rear hub but it still spins forever was told the cones are damaged if you find a hub please contact me airsup6176@gmail.com
  2. has anybody got one trying to compare to the giant Anthem 29 er the guys are telling me 20 k for a frame and 45 for a complete bike so trying to justify the extra 17k vs the Anthem, if I am to believe the shop cape town should have loads of these around
  3. baby was born on 5 oct my wife was a keen runner but with breast feeding was advised to keep her HR under 160 she started walking /exercising 6 weeks to the day with the odd run of 5-8 k's on advice from the doc She wanted to do the Argus for the first time so got on a bike for the first time after about 10 weeks I assume a keen cyclist would have started around the 6 week stage She is still breast feeding so it just takes a bit of planning
  4. I had a delamination on a crossmark on two tyres one caused a bubble and the other was in the sidewall funnily enough the tyres were bought at the time but maxxix would not replace I heard a story that bombing your wheel the CO2 reacts with the stans ? but hadnt done any of that my solution, after maxxis wouldnt replace was to change brands to geax tyres power to the consumer..
  5. to everybody thanks for all the usefull advice now I just have to build up the courage to do it Thanks
  6. I have four dings in my rear american classic mtb tubeless can these be straightened, they still seal perfect I think its maybe 1-2 mm off true are their any specialists out there. I'm from Cape Town. I've been running my tyre pressure to low and realised this after finding my floor pump gauge was dodgy and a few dings to in my rear wheel.. love the wheels though Any advice appreciated
  7. I'm looking at a set of ritchey protocols, are these wheels any good they are in excellent nik and run very smooth, would use them for training, the guy wants 3 grand for them, they get a good write up on bike radar. I weigh 100kg if that counts thanks for any input.
  8. Hi currently on an Anthem 1 26er had the oppurtunity to test ride a few days on a 29er GF I like what I read about the niner dual suss set up looking for feedback on Marathon racing, price, comfort drawbacks and configuration 80/100mm and where to get. I understand I can get one from Epic cycles in Cape Town, presently out of country so using my month to do research Thanking in advance
  9. funnily enough it wasnt the dings I used the pump to check a trailer wheel when there was a big difference I had a car digital gauge and cross checked it so kinda stumbled onto it the dings are because you hear people on the hub talking about this topic so I always thought 32-33psi was the pressure to have plus the ratings on the tyre the dings just add character but at least now I know where I stand
  10. just realised that my floor pump gauge has been faulty so when I thought I was running at 33 psi was at 21psi on the new gauge what a difference, the casualty is that an AMC rear has a few dings. we take it for granted that the gauges are accurate and also you read so much on the hub about tyre pressure I could never understand how someone ran tyres at 1.8 bar but now that my pump gauge is 100% I understand why I have always struggled to find a balance between grip and bottoming out on my rim any new suggestions on a 100kg rider tyre pressure currently on the new pump 1.8 rear and 1.7 fr
  11. has anyone ever tried this I did, great workout for the legs use a exercise bike or similar 50w 1min @ 60rpm 100w 1min @ 60rpm 150w 2min @ 60 rpm 200w 1min @ 60rpm 250w 6min @ 60rpm repeat 3 times takes 33 mins a good work out works the legs and core because you dont have a high cadence to really push through, I work offshore where there is usually limited equipment. Saw this on the gym wall and gave it a try.... my legs were hammered the next day
  12. the merida is a very harsh ride compred to the ghost more to do with the suspension setup than the shock you would need to ride it a rp23 will still be quite harsh on a merida compared to an anthem or ghost
  13. they are brilliant tyres bought one on saturday should be between 500-600 a tyre strong sidewall I had a captain spez 150 kms and the bead got holed so got the saguaro again they are a bit heavier, I have always used them but tried the Captain front and fast trak back for a lighter tyre but they dont have the strength so back to Saguaro, they also have a bit more volume so you can lower the pressure without dinging the rim( I weigh 100 kg ) I ride Tokai stukkend and they grip and handle the terrain well you cant go wrong with them
  14. Blackhill from glencairn 8-10 min climb bothways to do it silvermine road 5-7 min climb both off Ou kaapse weg
  15. Thanks it was just that whilst driving withit it started showing calories used so I thought it may have been setup like that
  16. Garmin Edge 500 I'm sure I read that calories used can be linked to HR as opposed to distance I have fiddled around but cant see that setting any help out there
  17. what size is that and what is FWIW
  18. Bridge cycles I bought the other day, 460 ea for a captain and fastrak
  19. Thanks will look into it then
  20. I'm looking at a bike that has a tapered headset can I put a std steerer into that. I would assume it has something to with spacers and adapter. Or am I way off Its for a trek top fuel carbon I have Reba race fork standard steerer 1 1/8 steerer I think Please help
  21. Yep I also use one for each of my bikes, had a Gobi on my mtb but it was killing me on the long rides Most LBS have those green test saddles I used it for about 2 weeks but it was right quite soon I paid 1500 for the Kium one and that seems the going price unless you try CWC or CRC Highly recommended weight is 254g if thats important
  22. Geax Saguaro front and back good training and race setup especially if youre not a lightweight spez captain front and a fastrak back good race setup (I know a guy that raced in the WP XC series with mud with fastrak back and front) maxiss plenty problems with delamination and loss of shape on the sidewall once the stans gets in - my personal experience and not great for the wet.
  23. I cant remember off hand I weigh 100kg so I think it is set about 4-5 clicks from full closed what I did find is when you set the floodgate that using bodyweight to push down in a stationary position doesnt exert as much force when ridiing in the standing position even on incline so fiddle with the floodgate on a ride and not in the back yard the Reba is great if you want to fine tune, I ride Tokai quite often so have set it for that sort of riding
  24. I would start with + 120 and - 100-110 Theres loads about the set up on the net as I understand the + wil sort the sag and the - small bump absorption cant remember my rebound and floodgate settings away from home written on a cupboard in the garage my settings are close to the manufactures om my fox I was only running at 80-90 psi so they are very different shocks to setup one thing is for sure there will be massive improvement on the tora
  25. got the Reba team 80-120 mm I bought it in August I think the RLT is the 2011 which was on the market but not locallyl but generally all the same The team has blackbox motion control and the floodgate system which means you can set the travel when locked out, the reba is also dual air so lots of settings to fiddle with. but to be fair not a lot of difference in feel to my Fox RL maybe a little plusher due to it being new and also I wanted remote lockout for races The bottomline was I wanted to try different things and I am happy with the purchase
