  1. I used to ride an Alu raleigh, got a bit bored with it and upgraded to a felt, I felt (no pun)that the felt had a significantly stiffer frame. I used to feel the raleigh snaking around when I sprinted or squishing under my peddles when climbing out of the saddle. The Felt is rock solid and takes off like a rocket. I also found the spec of some of the raleigh components a little disappointing.
  2. Not many people can pull that one off, Helmet sucks but I quite like the bike, something different.
  3. What the hell is a "fake racist apartheid agent" is a fake racist surely not a racist. Oh and lest we forget, apartheid is 15 years dead.
  4. I bought the tools and use the Parktool website for instructions, I dont think that you need a course, unless you are servicing shocks. With a tourque wrench, and some intuition you cant realy go far wrong. The most important thing is to remember the order that you take stuff off and the way around some bearings and things need to be installed
  5. I ride with inserts in my road shoes and spinning shoes and with BG MTB shoes, I would suffer with serious ITB without them. Also have them in my running shoes. IMO you body cant adapt, that would take breaking bones and resetting them so that your feet no longer pronate. I would see a podiatrist who can take casts of your feet and build custom inserts for you shoes. I saw a guy - Dallas Fell who sorted me out. Or buy the BG stuff
  6. Practice and get into the habit of uncliping both feet, most people unclip the left leg first (as it is on the sidewalk side and away from traffic) then they get in a flap because they cant do the right hand side. It is probably a more important skill to clip in smoothly than unclip.
  7. I can recomend the Spez shoes, the Varus Wedge thingy would probably help your feet, they are also pretty spacious. Helmet - whatever has lots of vents and is comfy. I am not a fan of the poly chromatic lenses, they get dark pretty quickly but seem to take an age to get light again
  8. A law was passed last year I think, that makes it manditory for all bikes sold in the USA to have the plastic thingy on it. Same applies to reflectors in the UK. The USA also want to ban quick release levers in some states.
  9. Im sorry where is the skill in sliding your rear wheel? any idiot can lock their back wheel and slid into a corner, the skill is to rail the corner without needing to lock up.
  10. Probably just nitrogen in the bomb, Nitrogen has a larger molocule, so it doesnt leak through the tyre or tube as easily. I think aircraft tyres and possibly Gp / Moto Gp tyres use Nitrogen.
  11. Sorry Bust you have been sold a lemon. My wildcard (as well as those in the possession of all the guys I ride with) allows me unlimited access to Tokai, you need to make sure that you buy the right option.
  12. Is there a troll under the bridge?
  13. how far is the TTTT?
  14. complete rest and some massage, eat a protein rich diet, do some yoga and stretching. and when you start riding again push light gears.
  15. Crow dont confuse dumbing down a trail and trail maintanence, sure sometimes maintainence requires that a trail is dumbed down. Likewise sometimes a section will be made more technical, plenty new technical sections have been introduced to Tokai in the 10 years I have been riding there. Unless Tokai is well maintained and erosion avoided TMNP will stop biking there, please try to understand that.
  16. The problem was that the riders were not using the sleeper bridge but cutting their own line through the river, if you knew more about Table Mountain National Park management and their ecological / conservation agenda, you would realise that they do not want riders riding through rivers. unless you are a freshwater ecologist you probably dont understand the impact.
  17. The bottom line is that the Fairy Garden, is a green route for beginners. The bridge is pretty easy, but makes the entire fairy garden ridable for beginners. Lets remember that before the Fairy Garden was built, there was no singltrack suitable for beginers! It is not intented to be technical, but rather an easy flowing section of trail. The bridge will stay because the trail builders understand where the Fairy Garden sits in the package of trails in Tokai. Secondly there is an ecological and erosion prevention funtion to the bridge, it keeps people who couldnt handle the sleeper bridge out of the river.
  18. I just duct-tape my camelbac bladder to my back, saves me $100 and the price of a back wax
  19. Hi Foe, please see comments from Roller..stop speculating on the Hub and contact Touchline direct...klyall@touchline.co.za - PR Manager at Touchline As I have mentioned I did mean Bicycling mag and not ride, my mistake and I appologise for it. But just google Touchline Fraud and you will see plenty info on the matter
  20. Opps sorry. I did mean Bicycling mag, have edited my previous post. I still receive my Ride Mag
  21. Use a gear cable, thread the barrel end through the tube, wrap a bit of cloth around the barrel and pull it back out, repeat a few times and it will be as good as new. Just make sure that you dont use too much cloth on the end.
  22. I cancelled my Bicycling mag about a year ago, and have not missed it a bit, a mate showed me the current mag and it was laughable. Thinner than Paris Hilton and more insipid. Not even worth the reduced discovery fee. I hear via the grapevine that Touchline Media is in the dwang, probably the fallout after the group overstated their circulation numbers to get increased advertising spend.Foe Fighter2009-04-07 01:46:38
  23. The problem is not the dust, the problem is that the wine has been disturbed. You biggest problem is the fact that you have 14 year old wine sitting on a shelf, that stuff is probably ruined, if you want to keep wine you need a stable temperature. The constant changing temparature from day to night, sucks a little air into the cork, causing oxidation and buggering up your wine. My advise start popping and drinking now. If you want to collect build a temparture controled wine store
  24. You need a new tyre, the sliced one is waiting to blow out. I dont know how many tyres I have trashed on glass in our roads, damn irritating.
  25. Keep the wound clean and change the dressing regularly. then once the scab is gone put a product called Dermastine on it, it is a great way to prevent excessive scarring.
