  1. Why, I would have thought that a part machined from a single billet of material would have been stronger than a forged part, please explain
  2. I cant wait to see the water bottles
  3. Sounds like a good deal, I would take it, just make sure that the drivetrain, brakes etc... are in good nic, after 3 years of riding you may need to replace some bits, which could push the cost up
  4. I think you need your head read if you ride carbon spokes
  5. Ok my solution is to split the group, Locals go over Boyes and the other poor suckers that cant find work in Cape Town can ride in single file through the road works.
  6. The road works wont be on Google. I think Boyes drive will only add about two minutes, there isnt that much climbing and a lot of it can be done at pace in the big blade
  7. I disagree with the big issue for Boyes drive. The B worlds with a huge pack went over Boyes. Loads of PPA rides go over Boyes, I have never heard of a crash at the end of Boyes. The right hander is not that bad, anyway my group will be spread out, because I will be laying down the pain on the front. A more dangerous turn on Boyes Drive is the left hand bend about 400 m from the "summit" because of the right, left, right combo, guys will be drifting all over the road.
  8. There are few things more satisfying that the sound of hand on Assos
  9. Wow, I always thought that they were just being friendly and offering me a drink. No wonder I get funny looks when I say No Thanks!
  10. You just gotta love this
  11. You probably need to have the itb stripped to solve the problem, this removes the itb from the underlying muscle and allows it to move freely. It hurts like a bugger but is an important part of the solution
  12. Polar, Polar, Polar. if only for the after sales service.
  13. Stretch each ITB for at least 3 mins every day. You should see a physio to have the ITB stripped and for instruction on how to stretch properly.
  14. There are areas in Tokai that are restricted to MTBr's there are no restrictions to any other users. Hikers, horse riders etc... are allowed all over. Most horse riders, hikers and dog walkers will stay off the singletrack because word has got around that I fly down at speeds not seen since the Concord was grounded. So in the interests of self preservation the sensible other users of the forests stay in the areas where bikes are not allowed. Unfortunatly loads of bikers ignor this and hack off the other uses in the restricted area. My advice is to avoid conflict, dont moan at other users in the forest. Lots of people have done a lot of hard work in establishing our use of the forest (there was a stage when singletrack was not allowed to be cut there). If MTBr's start hacking off the other users we could see ourselves in trouble. Believe me some of the people involved in Tokai would like to see MTBr's restricted. Remember we are the noisy, dangerous reprobates.
  15. Gooooooooooooooogle my china
  16. I like the way you think Chris, do you know what time this guy will be arriving to Court. We could ride from Westlake to Simonstown, if this is too far for some we can also collect people along the route, in Muizenberg and Fishhoek.
  17. Critical Mass next friday I take it, leaving from Baxter
  18. I find on all my bikes that there is normally one gear that causes a vibration through to the pedals when pedaling at a certain cadence. I assume that at a certain speed / cadence the chain builds up a wave pattern which starts to create a wave superposition which causes resonance in the frame and cranks which feeds back to the pedals.
  19. Some guys ride on thurstday, leaving from the Reddam Centre at about 7:30 I think. I think Lance from Epic bike shop is involved, give him a call
  20. Vibrate or resonate? I supose that difference manaufacturing techniques could cause the material to resonate at different frequencies.
  21. Thats very nice, the orange one that is, the white one is a bit naff
  22. Spez make some nice lids for MTB, check out their website
  23. In my experience, people who cannot hold a conversation without swearing lack the intelligence to convey their thoughts in a civilized and educated manner. Generally I find, the worse the language the more dim-witted the speaker.
  24. Do a race like the Epic (2007 edition) and you will run / walk plenty. Running builds complimentary (to cycling) muscles and can prevent injury.
