  3. do you know a guy called greyowl2.0? isn't it greyowl3.0 by now?
  4. Did I forget to mention that my chainrings are also 11-23
  5. 11-23 - and I am HUGE !!! so if I only need an 11-23, I guess it makes the rest a bunch of Panzies (Ok found the door, leaving now ......)
  6. I don't think it was the chainrings that helped him win the TT's, but do believe it was a "non-standard" item or two .... or three.. or four.. racman2008-07-27 03:15:22
  7. And using "thinners" or paint stripper to clean/strip th clear coat on CF frames?

    2009 Raleigh

Ok, so if you are to believed (and I have no reason except basic commonsense i.e. the most common way to refute nonsense, and logic to doubt you), DI said the BEST day of his season was the day he gave the Raleigh back, and it wasn't a joke but a genuine honest opinion...... Please!!! (No, I don't ride raleigh or Shimano. Never have and maybe never will but it's not because of the reasons the Raleigh or Shimano flamers say). But then again I find it difficult to engage in these flaming discussions as the protractors seem to mainly assume the following position...... racman2008-07-25 01:10:58

  10. I normally take the cheap shiny, reflective, plastic thingys off soon after I buy a bike .... why would I now buy wheels with them on !!!
  11. 101% you forget, Pantani's bling Cervelo is made for show, not go !!!
  12. get your point. Again the problem of the combination of a team and individual sport. rider vote is probably the only solution then. However, this means a serious lack of job justification for selectors then !
  13. Bruce, shouldn't there be some sort of trails then? The problem as I see it ( as a complete outsider and uninformed person, I admit) is having a National Championship at all, which will then always create a problem with selection. I guess it's an inherent problem with a sport that is both a team and an individual sport. I mean, if we ratjher used a National Race results e.g. the Vets Superseries ladder systema nd take the top 3 or 4 in each class, that will also cause problems won't it - the strongest teams will then have most of the top riders and better riders may not be selected.
  14. Not to "stirr the pot" here but isn't that one of the purposes of National Champs Crux. Shouldn't the Champs then be over a few different courses and maybe 3 different events etc to get a true reflection of riders abilities etc. I kinda makes a mockery of the Nationals if we are nt getting the best riders coming through. I know it is also difficult with team involvement and help in stronger teams which is theoretically NOT supposed to play a role, but surely it does. Anyway, just my 2c
  15. I am going for a simple design, plain carbon with white and red writing - like Looks and 2009 Giants. Painting the carbon frame means that it is more problematic later on to restore it to plain carbon later on if one needs to. Also plain carbon is less flashy which suits my image and riding ability MUCH better!!! Although a Campy man myself, I don't really have a problem with any groupset but absolutely hate the protruding cables from Shimano. I also love the Campy shifting button & lever combo which makes it so convenient and easy. If you hang on for a while (about a month I may have some Centaur componenets to sell as I will nit be using all of my Centaur groupset in the new build as well as some other components as well (Carbon seatpost etc). The groupset is 2007 and has only done 2000 kms so is still in excellent nick. If you want I can pm you a list of likely components I will be selling.
  16. The main diff seems to be that the Chorus and Record do multiple downshifts (to harder gears) in one button "sweep", while the Centaur does not i.e. one has to press the downshift button for each gear shift. However, both can do multiple upshifts with a sweep of the lever (to easier gears). I think the other diff is that the C & R have carbon weave or plain carbon shift leavers while the Centaur has carbon brake levers and black "plastic" type shift lever. Unusually though, the Centaur Ergos are lghter than the Chorus: Record = 324g Centaur = 334g Chorus = 348g. (Although the 14g weight saving is also easier to achieve if one clears the phlegm out ones throat at the beginning of a ride as well) For my money the Centaur is a gr8 buy!!
  17. Hey Singletrack - you supposed to be out riding at this time of the morning, not surfing the net !!! Check out the prices: http://www.totalcycling.com/index.php/product/parts_accessories/shift_levers_road/index.html?action=currency&id=ZAR I would go for Centaur - I have a Centaur Groupset and very happy with it. Also bought from Totalcycling many times with no problems (10day delivery), also check out Chain Reaction cycles.
  18. Hey singletrack, we are facing the same choices - frame design, groupset change etc. To me, the shifters are the most important decision - basically the derailleur options will work with any shifters/chain/cassette combo. Of course some derailleur will feel smoother on shifting etc, and different combos will be frowned upon by the purists/image consultants but in my opinion it's really down to what shifters you want. Or am I wrong? I heard of guys using DA f. Der. with SRAM Red due to their perception of the weaknesss of the RED f. Der. They say it works better. My advise which is easier to discuss than implement in our "image" related sport (as in most sports), is to choose the gear that: a) You enjoy and makes you want to ride more (yes it is a factor of enjoyment and motivation to some - me included) b) Make sure it works - most important c) you can afford I am considering using Accura CX front & rear der & brakes, as I need to change f. der anyway for my frame rebuild (there may be some specials on almost new 2007 Centaur derailleurs and skeleton brakes on the clasifieds soon !!!). I have chorus UT crank and Centaur Ergos which I like so will consider mixing the groupo a bit. Anyway just my 3 x 2c worth!!!
  19. Except their male sprinters all seem to be built like climbers rather
  20. Not a duplicate thread!! I went to the velodrome last night as well - really enjoyed it !!! (Ok, I sat in the UCI reserved seats as well but it's not my fault the signs are so small ) A few questions for the informed: 1) Is there a restriction on the gearing i.e. are all competitirs using exactly the same gearing or are there parameters stipulated only. 2) What's the use of issueing a warning in a race, after the race, if it is the final ?!!!! 3) WHERE ARE THE SOUTH AFRICAN COMPETITORS ???!!! (To see competitors from Mexico, Chile, and other small countries in the finals of races and yet no South Africans is a sad indictment on our sport. It surely is not due to lack of talent !!! P.S. I took a newbie cyclist with the familly and she found it an awesome experience - so much so that I am going back tonight !!!!
  21. depends if you doing LSD or TT?
  22. Thinking about that Shortlegs - here's the non-ISP version:
  23. cool, what about this but with TCR where T-mobile is and red pinstripes instead of the pink. The decals are carbon "see through"
