  1. Down lighter bike lights are old hat. I built my first down lighter set 5 years ago. For my MK2 set (2006) I used 6V Cateye replacement bulbs and just made my own housing from irrigation fittings at a fraction of the cost of a Cateye light. With 6V you can half the battery size and still get the same light output. Now I want a LED light. Just looking for 3W high power LEDs. http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=248012 http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=379341 http://michaelcarden.net/luxeon/luxeon3.php mountain_lion2008-02-04 00:34:39
  2. These look great - also want to know the price. WH: Watt means squat in terms of light output. Watt is the unit of energy and can be all heat! What you really want to know for a light is illuminance measured in lux. Lux is lumens / m? This is what the eye perceives. However illuminance will vary depending on many factors, including the angle of the reflector used, the distance from the light source etc, so no light manufacture will publish this. The output in lumens does give a good idea of what you can expect from a light source. Yebo electronics have 1W LEDS, but I am also looking for 3W. http://www.fort777.co.za http://www.fort777.co.za/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=269_456_532_536_1067
  3. BTW, Garmin Training Centre is OK for logging your training data recorded by the Edge, but SportTracks is better! http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/
  4. GPS werk vir my; Kry 'n Garmin.
  5. Yes, as Casspir said, not difficult and similar to plugging tubeless car tyres. Which reminds me, I need to get some more "snotties"; only got one left. Can't remember seeing any at the LBS. Hope you don't have to buy the whole kit again...
  6. Erhmm.... Minty has been planning a WC Hubbers MTB ride on the 8th/9th for months. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=16401&PN=1 Looks like it will be Table Mountain, but I am not sure if the date has been finalised (Sat 8 or Sun 9). Does not matter much to me, since I am still feeling pap from flu so doubt if I will be doing any riding this weekend...
  7. First, have you decided on a budget? You say R12k to R14k, but seem have fallen victim to budget creep already! If money is not tight, then that is fine, but is much easier to narrow down the search once you know what the budget is. Other important question to answer is the type of riding you want to do. By long distance events, do you mean XC / marathon type riding? i.e. do not require lots of travel in the shock? Else you should be looking at a 'trail' type bike which has more travel and is thus more of a do everything bike. I ride a Giant Anthem 2, which is a XC type bike (about R13k April 2007). Very happy with it. R18k+ will buy you a higher spec bike components wise (like the Anthem1 or better, but this was out of my budget). In the end you have to find the bike that is best for you. The only way is to test ride as many as possible bikes, preferably not only in the car park. Enjoy the search!
  8. Crazy idiots! Why??? Someone is going to get badly hurt (or worse ) sooner or later....
  9. mrs mountain_lion has been hovering on the brink of being sick for almost 2 weeks now and on top of that we had friends with 2 toddlers staying over this week. All 4 of them are sick and on anti-biotic, so I guess I should have known this will happen... Did not feel 100% yesterday and woke up today coughing, have a got a slight fever and just feeling pap!!! Looks like my chances of riding Die Burger are slim... Have not been fitter for a long time and thought I was on track to do a respectable time for a nice Argus start... Sh!t happens....
  10. en die PMs maak oom Pops so opgewonde dat hy glad wil betaal om vir Texas Sally beter te leer ken...

  12. RACE NUMBER: F1722 START TIME: 06:23
  13. OK, it was Telkom as I suspected - maps are now working fine. Now to see what else this software can do...
  14. Hagar, As said above, I have no problem downloading direct from my Edge to SportTracks. However I have data in Garmin TC which I havve deleted from the Edge and wanted to transfer ST. In theory this should be easy to do. Howver Garmin with their ever changing formats have made this a nightmare. Other software developers have given up trying to keep up.
  15. Thanks PBP2007. I did not download the Beta either. I managed to convert and import some data with GPS visualizer, but it seems you loose the HR & cadence info in this process. It is a multi-step process, so not really practical to do many rides. Communication between SportTracks and my Edge 305 works fine, so perhaps I will just load new data into SportTracks to evaluate it. I don't think I will stop using the Garmin TC completely just yet. Do you use both or only SportTracks? Any specific features that work better in one of the the two packages?
  16. I have finally got round to download SportTracks http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/ Until now I used Garmin Training Centre software to download my ride history from my Edge 305. So now I would like to import this Training centre data into SportTracks. Training centre can only export to Garmin's own format (tcx). At first glance it does not look like SportTracks can import this format directly. However I guess there are utilities that will be able to do a conversion from tcx to a format that SportTracks supports. Being lazy today, I thought I would ask here before embarking on my own search... Anybody know of such a utility? Which formats does SportTracks support for import?
  17. I'll be there; on my hybrid!
  18. Time to contact the Garmin agents. If you bought it locally in SA: http://www.avnic.co.za/contactus.php
  19. Updating the firmware is always a good idea (down load and run it from your PC is more reliable than using the webupdater), but first try a reset: http://www8.garmin.com/products/faq.jsp?product=010-00467-00#faq3 How long since you last used it? If not used for a long time (perhaps also after a reset), it could be that the GPS has to reacquire the almanac info from the satellites. This can take as long as 30 minutes. mountain_lion2007-11-10 02:56:36
