  1. Lets just say I tried...... damn that guy has some strong legs on him! Head tucked and gooi'ed. Dunno if he was the winner though coz I didn't see him on the top spot of the podium....
  2. Agreed! I don't see why, when overtaking another cyclist, some feel the need to move in front of you as if to give you slip - they mis-judge the distance and almost take out the front wheel of the person in front of them!
  3. My user name is completely opposite to my size - have had a chat to a few guys on the hub - they are like "are you tiny k?!" - I am 1.93m tall. Need a 59cm frame to fit me.
  4. Pity - it probably wasn't my size anyway
  5. So, I did the 99'er race yesterday and saw my a$$ around a corner. Wet roads and diesel I rekon. My right speedplay took a beating but my problem is that the screw on the side of the pedal is missing (spotted it post race). I know it is there for re-greasing. Is it possible to just clean the plastic away and put a new screw in? Otherwise, I will claim a new pair from the insurance. Advice would be appreciated? Thanks in advance. Edit: the screw on the outside of the pedal - http://www.speedplay.com/images/specszero.jpg
  6. Yeah, but he did it for a longer period of time and I helped out where I could between me and the % guy (one guy) The rest of my group had sat up and I gave chase. It was there past the MX track on the Old Malmesbury Rd just before the N7. Edit: but I get what you are saying.
  7. He got to the finish on fresher legs as he wheel sucked a bunch that left after his start bunch did. He was dropped at the 50K mark because he couldn't keep up with the pace and then latched onto the back of a bunch that was moving faster than him. In the local Aca Joe League Series, you can get disqualified for doing that. It makes your time faster than what it would have been if there had only been one start group and you got dropped at the same place.
  8. I'll have to practice a bit. LOL
  9. I bet they are speedplay cleats
  10. Michael Matthews (Team Rabobank) - hands down, he is the winner! LOL
  11. Well my father-in-law was in one of those reconstituted HUUUUUGE groups. It caused a bit of mayhem and I have chatted to a few others who left in H and they said it made it dangerous. I came flying by trying to chase the bunch down - they were moving just too fast for me to bridge. You should have joined the group that passed you - I ended up riding with them. Me, I am OK. Elbow lost a bit of skin, huge roastie on my hip (the size of a CD) but very little bruising. My shoulder took a big hit and is quite sore at the moment..... think I must wear body armour next time I ride a race in the rain. LOL Edit: see my post race de-brief - https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/112898-99er-post-race-de-brief/
  12. So, as I would imagine, with the weather as it was, some guys have to have a few stories to tell. Some interesting, some bummer, some ecstatic. My race started at 6am in elites. Pace was going well, some said it started too fast for them. Wet roads and idiots riding two abreast in the oncoming lane made for some interesting action when having to pass oncoming delivery trucks. My race was going well until I went past the silo's and onto Klipheuwel Road. I suspect that there was some diesel on the corner because as I went around my front wheel disappeared. Hit the deck hard at around 32Km/h. Got up, picked the bike and my sunglasses up, saw not much damage to me or the bike and got on and tried to chase the bunch down. Passed a few guys that had fallen off the back in my attempt to catch the main bunch. As hard as I was riding, I was not getting close to catching them. The next few Km were a tough choice - a crash 26Km's into a 123Km race - do I quit while I am ahead or do I push on. Well, I chatted to a guy who I passed and sat my wheel for a while, he suggested I carry on riding, so I did. A few of the guys I had passed earlier caught up and we made a nice 20 odd man bunch. We rode well together sharing the pulling but there were one or two who just wheel sucked.... Coming down old malmesbury road, a guy from Team Aurecon came flying past - what I suspect was the lead man for the Vets racing bunch (%). I broke away from the group and rode with him for a while - until the beginning of Vissershok - my legs couldn't go anymore. Swallowed a Gu and hoped for the best. The rest of the Racing Vets and Ladies passed me at the base of Vissershok as well..... oh and guess who I spot - one of the guys we dropped along the way. He just latched on the back of the Vets bunch and wheel sucked all the way to Vissershok. That irritated me. Anyway, Vissershok didn't get any flatter overnight and was a b1tch of note. Started feeling the onset of cramps towards the top but thankfully never happened. The downhill was a solo attempt so had no wheel to sit to recover a bit. Odendal was a cow and a half. Twitching in the quads when standing forced me to sit and ride the climb out. All in all a good race - 3:27 with the winner taking it in 3:06. Well done to the organisers - great job Think bike marshals - even more support is needed. Flipping well done! I never thought that the Elite bunch (the guys the youth look up to) would be such an unruly bunch.
  13. I heard that they changed the 1min start gap to 30sec further down the seeding letters. Groups catching each other in a short sapce of time.
  14. I used to ride a Bianchi.... was alu though.
  15. Cool - I got some stuff (frame, seat post, stem, bars, expander) from Etxeondo - think he is in Pretoria if I remember correctly.
  16. the Campy gruupo alone is gonna cost lots - I was pricing the Chorus 2011 and it came in at R11k new...... Good luck with the buy. I scored a bit by buying my parts separate which cost me around R15k but value is at R30k. What about Fondreist? CWC sells them. They also have Campy parts on special at the moment.
  17. Agree - to him I wish he gets hi-jacked of his car....... then we see how tame as a lamb he bocomes.
  18. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  Awesome story!
  19. I learnt from watching my dad over the years I still give him a call if I get stuck (or a tjommie if it's new tech).
  20. In that case, three pink smarties before the race will work for you.
  21. Agree with Falco - I have not had a cramp in a long time (if I prepped well for the race). Endurolytes is what a DC 2010 team member uses - she used them to prevent the chance of cramps - like what Lucky Luke is doing.
  22. Good one!
  23. It'll be more of a grimace (from pain) than a smile...... but you will get teeth, guaranteed.
