  1. Had a lekker week so far on MTB:

TSS=780 with a ride planned for tomorrow still

ATL=99 (was 111 earlier the week)

    CTL=68

TSB=-31 (was 46 earlier the week)

Easy to do these numbers on outrides... gets allot harder on time crunched indoor rides.

    G

Idt isn't too bad. You can crank out 75 tss per day in an hour quite easily

  2. They are NOT banned for use to treat patients - sporting authorities believe they give athletes an unfair advantage when used - so the SPORTS rules affect what a patient/athlete is allowed to take AND STILL compete.

Medical best practice allows their use - in fact, often recommends it.

All the athlete has to do is not compete and they can take anything.

There is a process that allows exemptions for certain conditions and still allows competition - called a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) - and if an athlete is prescribed something on the restricted list, then the Athlete is required to get the TUE application completed and submitted appropriately (not the doctors responsibility) - and in fact each time an athlete is prescribed something on the list, then they are best advised to make sure the TUE request is correctly completed and submitted - because some drugs show up in testing long after the fact that they were taken - so that if they are tested, then there is a paper trail for the request - even if it is denied, then they will be advised how long they cannot compete for after taking the drug or the circumstances that will allow them readmission to competition.

As to why a medic keeps a supply of medicine that includes things on the WADA list - that's because they are in general the best to treat some things with... do you want to be treated well or not at all?

Sure. But steroids cause dehydration, not help with it.

  3. I was dehydrated to the point of passing out, falling over and seeing things in the dunes, on the DD, dragged myself to the finish 60km later.

    Its called rule5

but did you get onto the podium?

its one thing finishing after being dehydrated. Its another actually beating everyone else after being so severely dehydrated that you need two different steroids to get you going again.

Its also quite interesting that a side effect of steroid use is dehydration...

  4. Yes they have, and therefore they are ALLOWED to race again. However we are ALLOWED to call them cheating knobs.

Serving your time does not make you a none knob all of a sudden.

    Your are still a cheat.

Accepting responsibility for your actions, making a difference to the cycling community and apologizing to the other Pro's and youngsters who's careers and futures your have negatively affected by your selfish actions is a start in the process of removing your "cheating knob" label.

I am yet to see somebody do that?

Should a lawyer be allowed to practice law 2yrs after stealing money from trust funds?

  5. ag by the time the public found out it was already over.

The Epic did however publicly announce that they had banned her.

this is *almost* worse than guys doping. Women have such a hard time getting into the sport, and she's gone and made it way harder

  6. i have def noticed that a lot of people that condemn the men for doping seem to have sympathy for the women.. a lot of ag shames for the women  instead of (fill in blank) for the men...

As seen with whats-her-face (the SA woman) not so long ago with the whole medication thing (not referring to the slim blonde russian

yolande de villiers was just sanctioned for doping and no-one batted an eyelid...

  7.

But like Gen says, I dont think that anybody would go through that hassle and cost. I mean, they couldnt even pay Emma for her letters.....

that gang has been very quiet lately. @doperssuck_za was blocked by BS, but beyond that, not a peep

  8. I cringe when I see his name there and wouldn't shed a tear if he wasn't allowed to compete - but would the threat of not being able to do master's competitions have stopped him?

he was overall winner as well, not just masters category

  9. Just to clarify the perception that cycle races (in the main) are private events. They are not. They are indeed very much public events. As such, any form of unfair discrimination is prohibited under the Constitution. Unfair would be for example not allow entry for a cyclist on the basis that they were caught doping, sanctioned and served their sanction. (Ex-doper). They have therefore resumed cycling life as a fully fledged licenced cyclist and are no longer under sanction. If this is what some of the race organisers are doing, they are at risk of being at odds with the constitution (Section 2 - Bill of rights). They could potentially be charged criminally and sent to jail for a maximum period of 2 years.

No problem refusing entry to dopers who are currently serving out their sanction.

A private event would need to be by invitation only and also make ZERO use of any public property. Then one has the liberty to just not invite on almost whatever grounds one likes.

I'm pretty sure cape-epic has the money to see this through court... They're the first one's to take the stance

  10. That is the thing for me, a lot of the big busts (KE, DG, BS) were okes at the tail-end of their career struggling to keep up with the youngsters. And especially with KE & BS they got desperate & reckless with their TUE's (amateur hour) rather than getting cought in some sophisticated Dr Ferrari doping scheme.

Would a potential life ban have made much of a difference in their decisions? I very much doubt it. Life bans is not the silver bullet that is going to rid us of this scourge.

didnt BS just win marathon champs?

  11. So what you are saying is that clean cyclists are worried about dopers winning races and denying them sponsors etc. But, the doper has already been caught and served his/her time. So you are assuming they are still doping after serving the ban. And also implying that there is no such thing as rehabilitation.

And if you follow all the other doping threads, as far as everyone is concerned, all cyclists, especially pros (and vets) are dopers.

So the ones worried about losing out on prize money and sponsors are actually the current dopers, and not the ones that doped, paid the price, and are maybe riding clean to avoid being caught again.

whew - theres a strawman argument if i ever saw one.

Did you read the marathon champs thread? was everyone excited that BS won 35-39 and fastest time overall?

  12. Yeah.. it a fine line..dialogue is needed between both riders and organisers.

And publicly going after them is no way of doing that IMO.

If they chose not to put it in the T & C we also need to respect that.

I am all for ex dopers not welcomed back

. BUT the governing bodies hand down bans and once those bans are over they have served their time, that also has to be respected. We may not agree with it, but it is what it is.

So then why are so many races in SA taking a stance against ex dopers. First and foremost is cape epic - They have a cutoff date of 1 Jan 2012.

If they are prepared to do it, why would a smaller race throw such a big stink about not wanting to ban cheats?

Bear in mind, this was driven by a lot of pro and pro-am riders ASKING races to please ban dopers from entering their events.

So while average cyclists like you and me might not want it, its very important that good clean cyclists actually get a chance to get the results they deserve and not miss out on any potential sponsors or career paths due to a doper winning a race.

  13. Question, shouldn't cheaters of any sort fall under the same ban...anyone who started in the wrong group, cuts a corner, goes off course and gains 10m advantage...used a TT bike in a Road race etc..

    Just a thought.

We're talking about strictly defined rules - sanctions that are handed down by governing bodies. If the powers that be decide crossing a white line is a sanctionable offence, then sure - they can officially be labelled cheaters
