  1. I agree. But I would think it only depicts the extremeties. Like I said, the dehorning isn't as cruel as the author would like us to believe. I don't know the US laws, but milk with mastitis is turned down in RSA. And it gets tested on every batch. If one cow has mastitis, all the milk in the tank is turned down. So indicating that 30-50% may suffer from this, tells us that 30-50% of the milk batches should be turned down. And another cruatial flaw in the piece: cows aren't constantly pregnant. Cows are pregnent once a year. A large part of the pregnancy the cow won't give milk and will also start producing colostrum. I take the whole piece with a pinch of salt.
  2. Utter (udder) BS. I grew up on a milk farm. Maybe the mass producers uses these methods, but all the milk farmers I know will absolutely laugh at this diagram. This is a typical example of let's make a nice diagram and play with the readers feelings to let them accept my personal view. Things like the dehorning is done by some, but it's so that the cow's won't "stab" each other. And because it's done at a young age, the pain is minimal and over in seconds. The veal is raised as a meat producer and will be sold to a Abattoir at a older stage. I can't help but to laugh at this. Just my 5c.
  3. Hey..., just need to come up for Raleigh. My previous bike was a Raleigh and my top speed was 92 km/h without any wobble. In last years Clover Lowveld tour, one of the guys had problems with wobbling. He rode a Spesialized. But I know the knee clamping trick worked for him. I do think it has to do with the overall geometry. And the geometry differs greatly between brands and between models.
  4. Did some nice riding this weekend with great friends. This pic was taken on the outskirts of JHB.

  6. Blackburn Mars 4.0, http://www.blackburndesign.com/lights/mars-4-0-rear.html The light I use and it almost fits all your requirements, but i dont know about the teardrop shape. Thats a difficult one. With the seatpost attachment you can maybe try to insert a small foam cutout and just tighten the clamp to fit snug.
  7. I got my Sidi Ergo 3's Last week. 2 Days after the order was finalised. Good service all round.
  8. This is stupid. Do I have to put on the abrasive strip? I am using the Look memory function, and the strip has no opening for this. Also I don't like the way it overlaps out on the sides. (I have keo cleats)
  9. Haters will always (find a reason to) hate.

    Argus D group?

I got a 3:04. Also beleive we should have rode stronger after the blue route, but no one was in the mood against the wind. Then I got cramps in my calves down in Houtbay, else I would've got in at 3:02. Would've/ could've. Enough excuses. Next year! Wrigs, then you can join me again!
  11. We are now on our way to Argus, the rack for the tandem broke. I left the bicycle at my brother in BFN. The tandem is not for the argus. The bike is on its way to worchester. If somebody can help transport the bike, it will be super. Even if its at a later stage. Drop me a pm please. Thanks!

    Argus D group?

White & Blue MAster Drilling Kit. (big white M front and back). If we want to be around the front, we'll have to be at least 45min/ 1 hour before the start in the chute.

    Roadies

I don't see why there is the whole thing between Road cyclist and Mtb cyclist. I cycle whatever I can pedal. I am a cyclist. This argument is more a trajectory to how superior and awesome Mtb cyclist is, rather than how roadies are supposed to cycle. But then again as a cyclist myself we have this tendency to think we are superior to others. Thus we cycle like we are superiors on the road, as we cycle like superiors off the road. Just different playgrounds.

    Argus D group?

I'm in. Last year we tried the same thing from group G, and we just missed it. Wrigs wil also join in.
  15. The MTB'ers wont agree with me, but technical isn't limited to off-road. Technical is anything that depends on your skill, experience and your lack (or suppression) of clear judgement. Like the other day I was going at 70km/h heading towards a speed bump. To the left of the bump is a small (10cm) flat section. What should I do...I kept my speed and took the small clearing to the side. This I regard as technical, because missing that 10cm gap, can have a bad effect.
  16. This thread is like the ANC leadership. In the fight between Road vs MTB, all MTB disciplines stand together against roadies. ...but within themselves they fight about which is the hardest.
  17. I've argued about this situation a few times with a lot of people. I told them that if you jump before the ropes, catch the ball behind the ropes, and throw the ball back before you hit the ground, then it's a catch (without someone catching the ball infield). I don't know the exact rule, but it's only a catch when you have the ball under full control. A lot of players catch the ball and immediately throws the ball in the air. It's a catch because the argument is you have the ball under control if you can throw it in the air. What is the difference in this situation?
  18. This is bad. I regularly cycle that road on weekends. Just think the driver should have seen the cyclist long before he saw the Guinea Fowl. So if you're going to swerve, swerve away from dangers, or rather hit the bird. But, we don't know what was the direct situation. My mom's Isuzu's Bull-Bar have been bent by hitting a Guinea Fowl. These are hard little buggers.
  19. My Nokia E72 indicates the accuracy of the readings. This indicates that when the coordinates accuracy is within 20m, the height is still @ 50m. So I don't believe GPS' is as accurate as we like to believe. At least not a cellphones internal GPS. If it's a dedicated GPS with a decent antenna, different story. Another issue: If the phone is in your back pocket, do you know what the GPS signal strength is? Optimally I think your phone should be open pointing towards the sky.
  20. In their defense: I sometimes have to ride a few km on a narrow road to get to a quite roads with a yellow line. I also agree, a major mentality shift have to be made by all road users.
  21. I don't think cyclist are the problem. Motorist hate pedestrians. Motorist hate bikers. Motorist hate taxis. Motorist hate the old lady or truck in front of them Motorist hate the guy in the bakkie behind them. Motorist hate the pavement next to them. Motorist hate any and all other road users I think that is the problem.
  22. Read the following article at bicycling.com: Very good Bicycling.com
  23. She is a full 22minutes before the next person in group HH... ...maybe she deserves the win!!!
  24. I found something interesting while searching for the leading lady in my group. If you do a gender specific search on racetec, you'll see that there is 3 ladies with faster times than Ashleigh. I do understand the issue about ladies wheel sucking behind stronger men groups till the finish. So it's only fair that the ladies pull themself. But these 3 still did the 94.7 faster than the winning lady. Most interesting is the winning lady's starting group.
  25. Shot these 3 photo's of you and your monster bike at the finish. PM me if you want them.
