  1. I forgive you, but the human in me thinks I am wrong to do so.
  2. the canaan's suspension linkage is a little diferent. It changes geometry when going over rough terrain. (lockout is a shock function, not a frame issue)
  3. mongoose canaan?
  4. happens all the way on Argus, still passing people on hospital bend on the way back to the finish...............
  5. it is only difficult until they are worn out.

  7. at last, someone with a level head. (thank you Spidy) It is easy to overreact when someone says something you don't like or agree with. ?Yet it is important for someone to hold up a mirror and ask "do you like what you see?". ?If everyone agreed then life would be boring. ?Sometimes, in order to understand yourself you need to come into contact with people who disagree with you. ?Only then can you really know what you believe in. ?We live in a society that is too "agreeing". If my postings offend you to such a point that you get angry, and want to go off on a childish rant and personal attacks, then ask yourself: ?" why am I offended? ?is it because this is a sensitive point for me?" ?By trying to attack me personally you are just showing weakness and a potential for growth. I can go on and provide you with a lot of academic and theoritical discussions about projection, sublimation, mirror imaging, dialectic debating ext but you are all too busy for that. Of course I agree 100% that the Defence Force should be closed down and the money spent more wisely, but there are too many corrupt politicians out there making money out of the arms trade and after all someone will have to keep you safe at night when the police admit they cannot stop the wave of organised crime in this country. sleep well.
  8. werewolves don't need a full moon in Benoni.....
  9. There is a very simple solution to "Side loading", and that is a Le Mans start, and finish. Put the bikes in a transition zone about 5km down the road, have the guys run it out and then when they finish riding, have them sprint to the finish................................ wait, that is duathlon. ps even in running we have problems with the walkers that insist on monopolising the startline. I have in my wippet days ran over someone's grandmother on the start line. The solution is also to say "can all the racers come forward". Let the serious 10% go first. This however sounds like category starts again, which works at all the classics and the big runs like comrades and 2oceans. I suppose if the crowd cannot control itself then there is a need to start grouping people into small starting groups.
  10. I am very interested in this thread for a number of reasons. Firstly, there are a number of candidates to become members of the Rhema (material wealth and social influence is good) bible church. Just because I don't earn R1mil a year does not mean I am jealous for the guy who does. Just because he/she is rich overworked stressed out and arrogant, who needs material possessions to justify his short miserable existence, it does not mean that will work for everyone. Secondly, I tend to agreed with BigH (horror) that it is extravegant to spend such a lot on a mere bicycle. I know it is not my place to tell the SUPER rich how to spend their money, but the point is there are some not so rich that are making debt to buy bicycles that they cannot afford and don't need. (they use the excuse "but is not like R120 000 like that bike). Thirdly, as a person with a bit of a social responsibility, I nthink it is almost criminal that there are people that are willing to justify spending R100 000 on a luxury item when there are people in RSA starving. Go sit at design quarter (Cyclelab) on any afternoon and watch the Kueguls drinking coffee while their impoverished labourers battle their way home to dipsloot in the afternoon. Then ponder about why there is so much crime and violence in RSA. THe bigger the class gap, hte bigger the revolutionary potential. lastly, before you slam me with, "but we worked for it", ask yourself "was I ethical in my behaviour?" or did I cheat a bit? did I fix a price, do a deal? Have I paid my tax? The missing chapter in every success story, is where ethical behaviour was shelfed for a while. Sir Jeffery Archer even taped the pages together. Mark Thatcher is silent on some import export work he did. LA is the only cyclist that never doped. Zuma owes nobody at the moment.
  11. the question is not really about discs or no discs but rather GT vs Felt. The question is: is it worth taking a Felt frame instead of a GT frame to get disc brakes?
  12. nice to here about the champs post facto, and what is the sense of hosting a provincial champs after a national champs? Luckily my mtb is serviceable and the trail is always there. Congratulations to all that have won something. I really like the pics.
  13. Umh, again consider this. What good does higher prices do for the development of cycling? More expensive bikes to save a luxury industry. South Africa since Oom Paul have always liked and understood concessions monopolies and cartels. I think the entire idea is very short sighted. A sort of get rich quick before cyclists get smart scheme. I still cannot understand that two South African Champions, who should know and understand the situation of cyclists should take the side of the retailer/wholesaler over the consumer/cyclist. Me thinks they are no longer in it for the love of cycling but rather now in it for the love of money. Maybe they can become exercise consultants to the Rhema church.

    Hub Ride

that is a 4x4 trap. ?Only the very experienced and very stupid even attempt it. ?Best left alone.
  15. You mean like they should burned at the stake or something? being locked up in a SA jail is worse than being burnt at the stake. (braai anyone). South Africa is not a unrestricted capitalist country, but have legislation to protect the consumer, thus the investigation. Also capitalism is not the answer everybody thinks it is. Just look at the economic crisis we are now in. It was caused by unrestricted capitalism in the US. Now the state (which is not a invention of capitalism) has to tax the poor to pay for the sins of the rich, again. I am sure all those that have got the "dear Johnny" letter in the last months would love to be told "well that's actually capitalism. There is nothing wrong with that in most countries. You are missing the point". On a personal level there is so much wrong with that. Also in reply, when people advise others not to buy from a shop because they are expensive, then people complain about that. But that is also a part of capitalism. Every one has the right to not buy as well.
  16. One of the great things about language, logic and thought, is that you can twist and turn around facts until you are arguing at a 180 degrees from where you have started. Sport and business is not the same thing. The rules are diferent. Intern argues that the two shop owners, being SA champs ext should be treated with leniency because they have done sooooooooo much for the sport, and this should be a mitigating factor. Here is the opposite view. Consider where on the spectrum you lie. (PLEASE McLean and Fritz supporters, this as an academic exercise to present the other view point and is no way reflective of how I feel on the issue. Please do not phone me to tell me how good Cycle lab or FPC's club is and what is being done about cycling development ext I don't want another flame war or sulking on the street corners. My last attempt to present a balanced argument as totally twisted). Lets consider this. Both cyclists were sponsored as riders and won prize money. ie it was their job. That is nice you get paid to do something for the sport? What about me, I actually pay to race, aren't I cantributing more. Then, they open a business to make more money. They start a club to encourage customer loyalty, and organise races (which again they take some form or payement for their efforts) Again they are applauded for doing so much for the sport. Those of us who find inexpensive parts for our friends (like Kiwi ext), serve for no payment on club committees and marshall at club races for FREE, aren't we also contributing to the sport? Now, these guys want to regulate the supply side of cycling so that no shop owner has to go hungry, by pushing up RRP, and some agrro comment about slackers, and we must accept that because they have made a business out of cycling, they should be treated with leinency? That this is a mitigating factor? No, no quarter should be given. They even documented their intention to conspire to financially hurt the cycling community (that is the average cyclist), and now we must be kind to them. The emotion I feel is betrayal. I thought a SA champ would be concerned about the financial inaccessibility of the sport to middle class people. I thought that they would rather be fighting to get the government to reduce import duties on bicycles and subsidise commuters (like in the UK). But noooo, the guys I used to look up to as the champions of the sport and the role models to me and others are actually wanting take more money out of my pocket and reduce cycling into an elitest white man's sport. Now we are looking 180 degrees from what Intern was wanting to say. Logical argument is real cool?KonaFan2009-03-06 04:08:00
  17. Simple words to add: Life is not about YOU, it is about OTHERS If a relationship is about what you get out and not what you put in then its is time to get out of the relationship. If you believe everything should have a monetary value and that people should be paid or compensated for every minute of their time, then it is time to start giving money away to others, and giving your time freely to other. (otherwise you will die lonely, and possibly violently). Remember do-one is to blame, and no-one should do something. If you want to blame someone or you want something done, start with the ONLY person you have control over, YOURSELF. Yes everything that happens to you is your fault (even the good stuff). Take responsibility. Remember, the world is precisely as you experience it. Listen to yourself and watch your actions. Are you constantly telling yourself how bad the world is? Remember you will believe everything you say (none-one believes that they are dishonest). Just as your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions. Enough self -help for today

    MTB Lights

good news I have located suppliers for 3 x2w LED 12v downlights. (these replace the 50 w halogen downlight spotlights that are used in the plumber pipe DIY lights). There are two: www.sunfor.co.za and khanyisa.co.za The LEd lights draw less electricity than the halogens which means either smaller batteries or longer lights. At about R350 for the downlight and R100 for the battery (12V gate battery). You could build a 6W led light for under R600.

  21. peleton discipline was much better in the 1940's
  22. That's all nice and everything, what about people like me that ride to work everyday, I try to use the cycle lanes I stick the road rules, I have altercations with the fine feathered drivers on the road every single day. I don't belong to a club and neither do the motorists, who do I report him to? Who cares? I have experienced the same problems. Just because I am on the road and on a bike, motorists, when the notice me think I am one of those "bunch" riders and go out to cut me off, close the left of the lane ext. And nobody cares. Everyone is so wrapped up in their own misery and "group ride" stress from weekends that they (in their motorcars) are also out to make the commuters life more difficult. As a commuter it sometimes feels that everybody hates and , despises us. My saftey is my own problem. A true SEP unless I get knocked and make front page news (and only if I make front page news). Then everyone logs onto the hub and fumes and fusses about how bad the motorist is, and how something must be done (often by somebody else). Then two days later all is forgotten until the next collision. I feel for fellow commuters.
