  1. sammajoor, it is a "duathlon" of road and mtb. I might just ride only on the MTB.
  2. Thanks Joe Low, anyone?

  4. every thing is personal preference.
  5. counter-revolutionary.........
  6. tyre pressure?
  7. I had the same feeling about the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 speed. But we are all suckers for something new.
  8. This years Sabie X was a bit rough on spares: new pads: new cables 2 x new tyres (side wall cuts) new cluster new chain grease and service awaiting the bill. My partner who only road the first day, 12 km of the second and then the TT footed a bill of R1300
  9. Absolutely awesome. ?I luvved it up until the lost last watering point, then the cobbles was a wake up call, and the water off the mountain made every corner on the fast decent very tricky and dangerous. ?I was glad I tapped off there. ?On poor guy lost his rear derailler, hanger and rear lug ?(ie toasted GT Zaskar frame) in an unfortunate crash on the last very fast decent. ?THe final single track was great (except for the wheel grabing bridge- which I lucky got over safely) KonaFan2008-12-17 13:16:28
  10. Leasons learnt: Pack tyres (Maxxi crossmarks scored very poorly. ?Three riders in our group had side wall cuts) , pack a spare set of wheels with MUD tyres (It always rains in Sabie) ?pack brake pads (the price esculates after day two), pack tubes (the organisers are serious about side wall cuts) , a spare rear derailler and hangers (Lots of guys lost those things), pack new cables (Some guys replaced cables ever day). ?Pack chain cleaner and chain lube. ?(for the more neat guys, back two new cheap chains for the ride.) Actually pack a full tool box and learn the detailed art of bike repair, after 6 hours riding and little sleep. ?(Don't trust anyone with your bike) Secondly, pack lots of food. ?When it is cold and wet, you must eat more to keep the mood up. ?Also if you can drive (not cycle) to the start pack cold and hot drinks in the car for afterwards. ?Did I mention food is good? ?Comfort food is better. ?Chocolate Third, get to know your partner before the ride. ?It gets really difficult if there are conflicting interests on the road. ?This year, to almost every one's amusement their was an appeal...... between two team mates. ?Yes, this is true. ?So be wary of your partner. fourth, SABIE Experience is a MTB ride. ?Brush up on your technical skills, especially decents, both dry and WET. ?(Also I did mention having MUD tyres?) Lastly, don't litter. ?It ruins the race for everyone else. ?It is not fun having to watch gel packettes pass you in the mud. ?It is even less fun having to pick them up. Other than that Sabie was an experience, maybe next year again. ps to the guy you gave me a tube on day one, thank you. ?THat was my fourth for the day.
  11. Mtbking is more than a sport. THe competitive element is only the tip of nthe iceberg. There is an increase in the number of facilities an riders. Groenkloof is wall to wall cyclists (they even turn people away these days) Northern farms parking lot ios always full, Rietvlei nature reserve (PTA) is now open for cyclists to releave the load on Groenkloof. THE farm roads north of PTA are clogged with Mtbkers on weekends. (And that is only PTA area.
  12. It did really happen. A bit of bike history http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fullstory&id=5800
  13. F iets there you go. If you are in Joburg, go with the flow, just steal one for a week.
  14. finally someone was listening to me. ditto
  15. It is not a trek problem, but consistent to most road bikes. You are not supposed to a. take slow turns b. pedal in tight turns. Trek is know to have a rather unorthodox geometery, with top tube and down tube being close to the same length. Also the seat post angle is about 75% which is aggressive in realtion to other bikes. BRUCE is known to love trek.
  16. surf the web, look for the geometry of various bikes. Focus on bikes with short TT length, such as treks and raleighs. Consider looking at Crit bikes with aggressive seat post angles (75%), especially American brands, like Trek, Lightspeed, Kona ext Avoid "Touring" bikes like Eddy Merckx (and Euro manufacturers). Most compact bikes have similar geometry, so a giant, raleigh ext will be much of the same.
  17. D oping is the pro peleton's dirty little secret. Why do we as spectators hate it? Because me have a naive belief that cyhcling is a wholesome sport, that "professional sport" is an honest persuit of excellence, and somehow doping reduces the "Effort" and integrity of man and machine. We want to believe that pro cycling is better than WWF. How naive. (Almost like believing that all Catholic priests are a virgins). Why do we hate dopers as competitors? the same reason that we hate guys that gutter over the white line. It is dangerous for them and for us. It is unreasonable risk taking. It strips amateur sport of its purpose, ie persuit of fitness and enjoyment. and lastly, doper beat us. (But some guys just have to win, don't they?)
  18. nudge
  19. Sorry for the hi-jack. I saw they are working there' date=' how far is it open to cycle, I want to do some hill training sunday. Hijack off. [/quote'] Consider climbing up from the Petoria Country Club side (Sidney street.) It is reasonable quiet there over the weekend.
  20. There are many ways to climb a hill, ou boet. Are you in?
  21. Wolverine has asked for a tour. The idea is to lengthen the tour with TWO, yes TWO new climbs. These however will be on MTB. The start can also be changed to SADIC, instead of Cherrylane (unless post ride coffee is still in demand). Date to consider 3/ 4 Jan or the following weekend. If you are interested please post your name and I will PM you regarding arrangements. please also indicate which dates suit you best List so far: Konafan Spidy (AKA Koos) (not Kots) wolverineKonaFan2008-11-28 00:54:08
