  1. I am in. Suggest a Friday night. Use Karsten Cycles as the start and finish.
  2. it cannot be fun being dropped in the first 1km of a race. But people are strange.
  3. all these rules, regulations, and instructions. For every suggestion there needs to be an official to police it. Each official costs more money to the enterants of a race. Rather push the administrative load back onto the riders. UCI rules state that a race constitutes a limited number of riders (about 200) which must be organised into teams. Teams are ranked by the riders performance. (ie points for finishing in the top places). If we follow this approach then clubs/teams will manage the riders "seedings", and organisers will manage team rankings and placings in each starting groups. Obviously as Mallo claims some teams will insert the sponsors son into the team , but his lack of performance will be a disadvantage that the team will have to bear. When applied there will be a trickle down affect to the a,b,c and D "groups" to organise in the same manner. Last comment, as far as I can understand, the licence is for the guy that WANTS to RACE or the win, and the cyclo-sport or PPA is for fun riders that cycle for recreation and fitness and not for "Glory" or seeding ext. so, If you are wanting to race get a licence.
  4. the answer lies in actually reading the UCI rules. Firstly, cycling is a TEAM sport. A team's seeding or ranking is based on the total UCI points of all the individual riders added up. These points are allocated by the number of placings the rider acheives in a seasons races. Therefore, in order to be a cat one team or a PRO TOUR team, you need to attract the best riders (yet you still have some scope to include newer riders). This system protects the riders (who have to perform to place in a team) as well as ensures that the riders race as a team as well. Secondly, cycling is a team sport. If you ride for a strong team chances are you will get better results. Also you may be expected to sacrifice yourself for the team once in a while. So individual seeding based on race times is actually rather irrelevant. Thirdly, cycling is a TEAM sport. If you are a young talent, an old experienced rider, or a team player, you will always find yourself in a team that is "stronger" than your seeding, because you are important for team success. So in terms of "Ability" seeding. This needs to be done within the teams that race within the club, and not by some mathematic equation based on something as unreliable as race times. Cycling is far more complicated than that. It is an insult to the sport to even think that you arte only as good as your "seeding". Oops, in RSA clubs don't race as teams. In fact we are all so self centred that this whole argument makes no sense. The idea of being part fo a team, INSANE.
  5. to quote JAck Nicholson is a few good men: "the truth,.....you can't handle the truth...." or David Icke "the truth shall set you free" add on the Saffa, "unless you are a criminal then it shall put you in prison" add on the new souf effrikan "unless you are famous, rich or a politican, then it can only imsult the chattering class and enhance your reputation" but some of your new friends might want to kill you as dead as Kebble.
  6. best is to get a garmin edge 205 or 305 (with heart monitor) and download sport tracks from www.zonefivesoftware.com this will allow you to keep a log for each bicycle (and running if you get the forerunner 305) and plot the routes on google earth and a whole lot more as well.
  7. wheels and your point/problem is?
  8. consider the chain. A worn chain can jump. Sometimes a line can be bent or hurt. consider the derailer hanger alignment. THe hanger does get bent in tansit. Worn gears? maybe. Chain to long? maybe
  9. I take it that Mr Bunny and Mr Claus exist.
  10. That dims your chances of being a moderator. and your point is?
  11. Free market rules. Liberated capitalism rocks. Viva the bottom line. Up with profits. Down with animal rights. Human rights suck.
  12. I vote no. I vote yes: 1. he has done offline activities for the hub. 2. he keeps his smut on smut threads 3. he is willing (although this may count against him in many books) 4. he buys and sells stuff on the hub (again this may count against him in many books) 5. he is not in the RSA. 6. he actually cycles
  13. Why cast stones, when heaving rocks does more co-lateral damage? Why send a messenger when a thermo nuclear device can obliterate the problem, and all his friends and neighbours? (Foreign Policy according to Bush)
  14. I second joe low' date=' porky and wolverine..... the rest are biased.[/quote'] against you for for you?
  15. Best candidates are: BigH- only because he does not want to HolyRoller- because he has yet to log off in 2 years Alternatively: TNT1 because Bob can fix it. Sammajoor, because he knows the difference between smut, porn, erotica and art. Also he is to far away to kill. Guy in pink- keeps the pink theme going. Slowbee, the newbee Wolverine, just because. Jagwig so he can correct our grammar. Him and serendepity would be be able to use their training, and keep in practice.
  16. Using gel on a training ride shows taht they should be doing more training in the first place. Performance enhancers are to enhance performance (ie during races), training is to build muscles. If you take gels on a training ride you are either too rich or to lazy to train properly. Real food and coffee are used during training. (and they taste better as well).
  17. seems to me there are 7 honest people on the hub and 30 prats from Jhb that want to justify their wasteful ways. I can spend R30 000 on a bike, but why would I WANT to? I want to spend R30 000 on something else more important than cycling, like my house bond, car, wife, kids, holiday ext. But each to his own. There are none so commited to a cause than false profits (prophets).
  18. LA is now officially mutton dressed up as lamb. He is old by cycling standards. No matter how well he rides, his recovery will be slower than his opposition. He will have to train more efficiently than his opposition to get the same results. He will have less "good days" and attacks in his legs than his opposition. All this because he is at least 10 years older than them. He can win still, but it will take more grit and mental determination than before, and it will cost him more physically, than ever before. and at the end LA will have to ask, "Was it all worth it?"
  19. but wasn't his name and number on the press release from the ANCYL?
  20. what is this licence thing and why do you need it? really. Many MTB races don't ask for it. Also you don'y need one to ride at Tokai or Groenkloof. I think that CSA and PPA is push cyclists away from organised sport towards recreational riding. Until CSA gets control over their own systems and the race organisers there will be no progress in cycling as a sport. Furthermore, the lack of local, provincial and national incentive programmes and a over-arching national policy on legaue races, race catergories ext, results in uneven development in cycling. Enough of a rant and rave.
  21. Thanks' date=' good read on link. Even better comments. Thug - leave my garden alone, luckily I do not have a wheel-less car in me yard [/quote'] do you have a legless lover in the begroom then? or is that only Sir Paul McCartney.
  22. it was hard, but thanks you noticed
