  1. Hey there, My old Nike trail running shoes, ,went flat a while ago, so this weekend I bought myself a pair of the New Balance 411 All Terrain shoes. Still walking them in. I only do one trail run per week (4km at the moment) and plan to eventually do 6 or 8km once a week, thats besides the normal MTB training. The shoes feel very comfy, and certainly look if they'll be able to handle a trail or two. Have any of you had experience with these? They came out in Jan of 2011. Thanks!!
  2. Thanks guys, i knew that in the back of my head and it was confirmed by seller, but wanted to double check...yeah, all 8 speed. Already thinking to start getting some parts together for a nice commuter/single speed build
  3. Just want to confirm my findings: I bought a Jalco DM 17 MTB wheelset with 8 speed SRAM cassette. Have shimano groupset, but from what I've seen, there wont be any issues, right? Just got it for my IDT as I got tired and tyred of swopping the tyre all the time and then maybe later use them on a commuter/ single speed project The casette has aprox 250km on, not going to mention the price, but I think its a verryyy good deal
  4. If I'm correct this is the actual Bomber: Had one while at school, with three speed Sturmey Archer gears. Still remember when that little chainy thingy broke it was quite easy to replace. Was an awesome ride. Just a pity I didnt appreciate riding as much as I do now, would have kept that baby
  5. Pragtig!!
  6. Thanks Guys, Done a bit of research since my post this morning and saw that I can use that pack. But its good to get some comments as well. I've attached pics of the pack. Yeah, my "commute" will require a bit of logistical planning; I'm the only one who can take my son to school. Luckily its in the opposite direction from my office. So the plan is to drop him off the normal time, leave car at home, commute into work. The reverse applies in the afternoons. Luckily I work until 4pm. I need to drive during the day to meetings etc, so I can do this once a week for now and then later, twice. Looking forward to it! Thanks for the tip Twiga, will "swipe" a pack of my son's baby wipes and see how it goes. Luckily my hair is short, so no real "helmet hair" issue!
  7. If the new bib-short is anything like the Medac one I have now, it will be awesome! One of my better choices so far with regards to cycling gear..
  8. Hey guys I discovered an old-ish Backpacker Air-Flo 37L backpack at my parents' home (in my old room) Ive been toying with the idea of commuting to work at least every Friday (about 26km in total). Would you use a backpack like that? Its got this mesh liner at the back to prevent uneccessary sweating and the hip band to take weight off your shoulders, and not too big. Must probably pack it and see if I'm comfy. Main issue is no showers at work, but should be ok.....any tips on this?
  9. Thanks for the info guys, decided to go with the Edge 500 bundle bought online from EasyGis. Got a little unexpected bonus that just helped me made up my mind quicker!
  10. Ja wat, sal ook so plan maak. So bietjie aan die tegniese skills werk kyk of ek meer as twee miljoen tarentale in twee ure kan tel
  11. I wanted to say Yang, but wasnt sure! Still need to apply the good advice though. Be as it may, at the K2C (had a DNF) I realised the importance of cross training. Thats why since then, I havent been on my MTB that much, but rather started running and LSD on weekends or just playing around on the trails a bit for now.
  12. I got this info from a friend: The Seventeenth Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held in Durban from 28 November 2011. The City of Tshwane will support the conference through a number of initiatives before, during and after the event. These initiatives include: • Clearing 17 ha of alien vegetation at the Voortrekker Monument Nature Reserve • Allowing free entry to the Groenkloof, Wonderboom and Rietvlei Nature Reserves on 28 November 2011
  13. There's been a similar thread a while back. Couldnt find it, but from what I can remember, one guy said find a tall building in your area, (more than 10 floors) check if you can use the stairs, then run up....increase your sets to about three times per day, do that twice a week and you should experience a marked increase in your leg power. Personally thats what I intend to start doing in December. I started with running recently, and although I'm very unfit running wise and relatively fit for MTB'ing, I found from rides here in Groenkloof, that even with just a normal 2.4km run twice a week, my legs are stronger already, and this after 7 runs. I 'm aiming to be doing at least an 8km run once a week (trail running)
  14. Yeah, maybe save a little more. The edge 500 really lookes like "the one"
  15. Thanks, will have a look
  16. Hey guys and girls I'm looking for a new HRM/GPS bundle computer Have a limited budget of R2000-00 max. I like the Edge 500/Bryton35 bundles but they are a above of whatI can spend. I do races etc but most of the time just to enjoy the sport, nothing serious at the moment I saw the Garmin Edge 605 on probikekit, anyone using this? What else is there? Thanks!!
  17. Quickly checked these out on the web, verryyy nice, might just buy myself a pair as an early Xmas gift
  18. I saw packets of Rehidrat Sport at my local Spar. about R56-00 for 6 packets and you mix that with at least 250ml (according to the info on the box). I think it will work if you mix a sachet with your normal stuff for the last 20-25kms of a 70km race? Geez, now that I think of it I should have had this at the Karoo to Coast
  19. And you cant turn the knob moving the flywheel unit too tight, might stuff up the rear hub? Speaking of which, what is the "acceptable norm" when setting the wheel and Flywheel resistance, ie, how many turns? Thinking of ditching mine as well, but is was a gift from the wife
  20. Its scary, but I dont mind too much. I got an interview set up for next week after a recruiter looked at my Linkedin profile.
  21. maybe checking out this link will help...actually quite funny http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=skid%20mark
