  1. How does this beroglobin compare to entegram? Are they basically the same? How much does beroglobin cost as my medical aid wont cover it
  2. Yeah, good choice
  3. Think our last looooong ride (aiming for around 80-100km) will be on the 11th in the form of Breedt's Neck up here in gauteng (11Sept). Its a nice route with rolling hills and one monster of a climb. Havent made it to the top yet without pushing but working hard to ride it out. I just do two hard 60min sessions during the week on IDT and then a long ride on weekends. Please note I'm not a racing snake by any means and normally finish races in the middle lower end of the pack, think its the few extra kg's are holding me back a bit, but should be good for that one 14km downhill Think in the two weeks before K2C I'll also tone down on the training with regards to duration (30min sessions) but keeping intensity the same and then nothing in the week before the race.
  4. On the day I entered I saw something about me in Cat C. Dunno how they allocate the entries. How is your training going for K2C. Doing any looooong rides? We are planning on doing 100km on the 11th of Sept. Hope that's the right thing
  5. I'm still on tubes, Schalbe Smart Sam wire beads for both: R300-00. not bad hey? yet to test them on really hectic trails, but they should be ok. I agree, a tire is a tire!
  6. Too much Hijacking going one here!! Maybe time for an official 2011 K2C thread??
  7. NickGT, Cassie and Slowbee, this is a shameless Hijack from my side. I'm aiming for between 5 and 6 hours for my first k2C Think that way one will be able still enjoy it. As Slowbee said at 50km check how you're feeling and then go for it. I was thinkking of riding within myself for 65-70km and then put the hammer down. Dunno. Then as in Comrades we should arrange and set-up a 5-6hour "bus" and ride together if possible. Thought that myself and training partner would start together, but somehow I was allocated to Group C and he to Group E. Dunno if we'll find each other. Darm, in 5 weeks and two days we'll be driving down! **Shameless Hijack off**
  8. I bought my pepper spray at Sportsmans, came with strappy thingy that you can put around your arm or on handlebars....works well. Think I paid around R120-00 for it
  9. Hey, I'm also a K2C "virgin". That painkillers seem like a super idea, some Myprodol would do the trick I guess I have presta valves, but if you arent running tubeless, it would be a bad idea to have one of those adapter thingys to pump your wheels at a garage (i have one) I see some folk that have duct tape around their seatposts, not a bad idea either.
  10. Just in short the shirt goes for R350-00 with personalisation at an optional R50-00 When you join ROAG you get your " club number" and that is the one thats on my shirt. Gareth, they mention 5 weeks or so. It took mine a week longer, Just make an enquiry with Megan from Roag two weeks or so after placing your order. They might overlook and not send it to the manufacturers immediately. Other than that it was worth the wait
  11. my main consideration as well, enjoy the shopping and riding off course!
  12. Once there was a road bike that had an affair with a mountain bike, the road bike got pregnant and out came little Salsa Fargo CX Bike on steroids?
  13. I recently put on Schwalbe Smart Sam 2,25 front and 2,1 rear. They are wire bead tyres as I still havent made the transition to tubeless. From my limited amount of knowledge, they seem to be in the Crossmark category. Their sidewalls are thin, but apparently quite strong and they are much lighter than my previous tyres. They retail for around R150 each, and according to me you get a lot of tyre for your R's My training partner also fittedt the Monorail front Crossmark back combination. His are fold-ups. They seem softer that Wire beads, which means they allow for a more comfortable ride. Thats all according to him. I would suggest, you figure out what is the max you can splash out on tyres and buy the best you can afford.
  14. just looks wrong.....
  15. seems like she enjoyed the meal though....sweet! My boy was the same....not that its any better since he's been eating with a fork and spoon...eish
  16. Noticed a squeeking sound comiing from rear derailer (Deore). Sorta like when your chain isnt lubed properly. That lead me to lubing the "pulley wheels" as well. It helped a bit. BUT I think the bearings of the small wheels might have had it. Doesnt seem like a huge job to replace them. Do you have to consider 8speed vs 9/10 speed etc?
  17. Was given two of these gels and a "stroopwafel" by a member of my family that came back from doing the Tour de Tuli. (anyone knows Brandon O'donoghue?) Seems like a nice all natural product to use, what would the GI be? check it out at: http://www.honeystinger.com/index.html
  18. Ive been thinking about getting ROAG cycling shirt for a while now, and it eventually came. Very good quality in general and nice fit as well. I would say that if you belong to ROAG it might not be such a bad idea to get one. Will be wearing mine at the K2C and other races here in Gauteng, so please if u see me around, please say hi, would be nice to meet some folks from The Hub. Poor photo quality courtesy of my BB Curve 8520
  19. We (me + wife & son and my folks) are staying over at Badgers Lodge. For the 5 of us it cost me R600-00, which is not too bad at all and it seems nice and last time I checked there still was some space left. Nice guest house with log/wooden cabins. seems ok! Our transport is sorted, my training/riding partner will be staying with a friend of his and the oke will take us with his Bakkie on the morning of the race. He said that some locals with bakkies might offer a shuttle service. This is just hearsay, so I can find out and let you all know? Flippit, I'm getting excited! Gonna be my first time, and training not going as planned (bronchitis and cold/flu superbug in July) but its gonna be a blast. We should figure out some ID system so you know when you see a hubber, would be awesome to meet some people from here.
  20. I like! may you have many safe km's!
  21. If there's a Hub-off thehubsa will kick serious ass, the "other hub" not nearly as good is this one
  22. I know Solomons sometimes stock them, but got them from one of the LBS's here in Centurion, PJC Sport. Not bad at all. we're bound to go to Breedts again on 14Aug, could always bring it there if u decide. U need pics or so?
  23. I'm quite heavy on sunnies, so for my mtb'ing got a pair of Raleigh with interchangeable lenses (normal mirror type, yellow and clear). Lenses are vented, so minimal fogging up. They go for R150-00 or so a pair and should they scratch or break, I just replace. Wouldnt be possible with the others that go for R1000-00 + Normal day-to-day sunnies are Oakley Monster Dogs, love them
  24. I'm not a roadie, but oh my word would be a "nice to have"
  25. Also wanna know if anyone has tried the Bibs from Medac? (under same company that supplies the Rockets compression gear). I bought one a month ago and its very nice.
