  1. I have done two of their rides. The first year was mainly tar and last year was mainly dirt. They aren't putting on a ride at the end of this year. From an email I was sent by the organiser (He's an Aussie so excuse his spelling of the locations): "...the MPum ride will be the only ride for this year in SA and the route and dates for the next GwcBR is a tightly held secret requiring special security clearances. However, I can reveal that I recently went on a pedal along the south coast and found a way through Stillbaia, Witsand, Anniston Hermanas, Gans Baia and more. "Mandibles2008-04-07 23:25:20
  2. Non-finishers names are only listed after the completion of the following day's stage i.e. the ones you see on the list got DNF's in stage 2 and were only displayed after the finish of stage 3.
  3. I have Assos, Cape Storm matrix, and Anatomic bib shorts. All these bib shorts feel comfy to me up to about 3 or 4 hours and then only can I feel the difference. In order of comfort I would place the Assos 1st, then Anatomic and lastly the Cape Storm bibs. I agree with Sean that each cyclist finds comfort in different brands.
  4. The last two links have https://www.bikehub.co.za/%20%20 in front of them. If you remove this part then they work fine.
  5. I agree! Best race that I've ever done by far. I'm still suffering from withdrawal symptoms!
  6. Nope, no sense of humour in the bag. Bet I was to blame for you losing it though....sorry!
  7. Well if no one claims them then you can have the finisher's medal as a consolation prize and you can be my friend.
  8. I also have a finisher's medal in the lost property.
  9. Hey Mud Dee, don't remember seeing you on the start line of any of the days therefore I suspect they don't belong to you. Nice try though.
  10. I have 3 pairs of sunglasses and a very old heartrate monitor that were handed in as lost property. If you or your teammate lost any of the above and can describe it to me in detail you can claim it.
  11. On one occasion I flew down to Pietermaritzburg with SA Airlink (29 seater aircraft) and they accidentally sent the entire aircraft's baggage off to Pietersburg. Only got our stuff the next day.
  12. Inclip as jy omval...hmmm...dink uitclip sal beter werk Eggbeaters are super easy to unclip. Much easier than Shimano pedals.

    pick up

Collected mine this morning and was surprised at the number of people collecting theirs too. Carpark was full. They didn't ask me for my license. So much for the 17th Feb deadline.
  20. I always call it a freewheel body. Which terminology is correct - freewheel body, freebody or freehub body?
  21. Gavin says that they instructed over 350 people in the last year. They teach people of all levels too. There are so many small things that I learnt e.g. I didn't think I needed to know how to do a track stand until he explained to me that I would need it if I wanted to negotiate a sharp turn into a dropoff.
  22. Yesterday I went for my 1st one-on-one mtb skills session presented by Cranky Monkey. I decided to go for the one-on-one as opposed to a group session as I'm not a total novice and wanted to learn specific skills that I was lacking. The instructor quickly made me feel at ease and at no time did I feel as though I was about to draw blood or inflict pain on myself (although I must admit it was a bit unnerving when I got too low over the rear wheel on a steep dropoff and felt the tyre turning on my butt ). I learnt more skills in the 1 hour session than I've learnt in the last 2 years. Was loads of fun too! Here's some of the stuff they teach: Beginner Rider LEVEL 1 SKILLS If you are new to mountain biking or if you feel like you are walking your bike more than riding it, this is just what you need. It will help you to build confidence and feel more comfortable on your bike. Currently, you can ride on easy terrain, dirt roads and jeep track but have little or no experience on single track, tight trails, downhill?s or tricky climbs. ? Correct body position ? Balance & center of gravity ? ?Attack? position ? Gear selection ? Braking ? Cornering Intermediate Rider LEVEL 2 SKILLS You've been riding mountain bikes for some time now and you ride enough to know there are skills you would like to improve. You are confident on most single track; however, you are still cautious with speed and more technical maneuvers like steep terrain. You would like to learn how to conquer steep hills - both up and down, navigate switchbacks, wheelie, bunny-hop and no-handed riding. This course will equip you with these skills to increase your speed and finesse for trial riding and racing. ? Cornering ? Lifting the front wheel ? Drop offs ? Technical climbing ? Switchbacks ? Descending ? Technical obstacles: Roots, sand, rock beds, ruts Advanced Rider LEVEL 3 SKILLS The basics are there and the confidence is high. But the tricks of the trade could certainly help to smoothen out your races and maximize your advantage over the stuff that unsettles the competitors. The course will teach you the subtle tricks to save time and preserve equipment which could improve your game and give you the edge. You will also get information on more structured training methods to get you faster and stronger. ? Bunny Hops ? Switchbacks ? Technical obstacles: Roots, sand, rock beds, ruts ? Line selection ? Multiple obstacle navigation ? Wheelies ? Track stands Here's the link if anyone is interested: http://www.crankymonkey.co.za/index_files/skillsclinics.htm They also do a road skills clinic and a bike mechanic workshop.
