  1. Cold ride along the Klipriver! -8 degrees as the sun was coming up!
  2. Beautiful work, one of those pieces that becomes a family heirloom!
  3. Gravel roads and long shadows, early morning ride with Flippa!
  4. Correct [emoji441][emoji373][emoji373]
  5. Damn, the Emoji's from Tapatalk don't translate in a browser... Sorry!
  6. Saw this on FB, thought it could be good here, on a Friday... I’ll start: ????????[emoji930]
  7. Oh, and Mr Makita isn’t mine... [emoji22] Pic was taken in the workshop of the guy who made the boxes for me, he’s a client, the father of 2 hubbers, and makes fantastic Kiaat fishing tackle boxes...
  8. Ja, there’s always nice surprises at Gelmar, good value for money. We were recently approached to sell glue from a local producer. Will be branding it with our company name, 3 variations, normal wood glue, a quick setting one that the kitchen cabinet guys like, and a waterproof one. Cost is a third of our usual (well known) supplier. The tests so far show that it’s a really good product. Using the waterproof one for the lamination experiment I’m busy with.
  9. My activity for last week was pitiful! Between moving into a new warehouse, sick kids and some other work commitments, I had to squeeze in 20 min power walks in the late evenings. All done though, this week should be better, I need to ride my bicycle, having withdrawal symptoms. On a positive note, saw the doc last week for my annual insurance medical, nice to get positive feedback about your general fitness and state of health from the doc. Goes to show, consistent, regular exercise leads to positive results!
  10. It was yes, the detail in the buck’s head is amazing, incredible what the laser can do.
  11. Also been doing some laminating, cut and planed some Meranti offcuts into 40x40 pieces, about 700mm long. Made a few sections of about 700mm wide. Have sliced them into 50mm strips, that I’m now laminating again, to make an end grain butchers block. Want to end up at about 900x600mm Will post more pics as I progress.
  12. I’ve been doing quite a bit of work for corporates, branded, so don’t think it’s appropriate to post, but they’ve been keeping me busy. Did this signboard for a wedding, the couple wanted it at the entrance to the venue. Had a few of these boxes made, and then branded, for a customer who wanted a “fancy” box for the Jenga sets I did for them. The Jenga blocks all have key phrases that the customer uses in their quality management system laser engraved on them.
  13. Half blind dovetail jig: https://youtu.be/0rmPBZnALM4
  14. Ride towards the light, with Flippa, at Rietvlei...!
  15. Thaba with Flippa, bumped into Pikey there too! Forgot how tough some of the blue loops can be!
  16. Wife wasn’t at home yesterday evening, so I rushed a quick trot after I tucked the kids into bed, for some reason, moving time is 40s short of elapsed time (and 18s short of 20min), I’m claiming it though. On my way out the door now for a long (by my standards) ride, will make up for the few seconds... [emoji15]
  17. I've become a lot more "Sugar Aware" in the last while, and have consciously cut down mine and the families sugar intake (in a lot of instances, they have not even noticed). What is interesting is when you actually start reading the labels, and see the sugar content in a lot of products one would think are low in sugar. Case in point, Jungle Snack Mix Cranberry Infusion, 48g of Carbohydrate per 100g, of which total sugar is 45.2g. The label also shows content per 30g single serving, yet the packet contains 50g... Bottom line is, read the labels and be aware of what you're eating.
  18. Those handlebars belong to a Hansom tandem that I need to strip and restore, just do t find the time to get to it...!
  19. Sorry about the long wait... Glad your Mrs is happy, as they say, happy wife, happy life. With all of the work you've been doing around the house, you must have an abundance of pink slips!!
  20. I’d advise against pine on an outside deck...
  21. The waterborne Woodoc is really good, especially on Pine, it doesn’t draw the tannins out of the wood as solvent based wood treatments do, so the wood keeps its natural light color.
  22. Should have done it before the rain, you had lots of dry time . If you don't want to preserve the weathered look, my advice is as follows: 1. Contact Somerset Timbers, ask them how much they will charge to plane the wood, they should quote you a rate per meter, R3-50 is a fair price. 2. If the price is acceptable, remove the planks and drop them off at ST to plane. They must just "clean" them, i.e. take 1 - 1.5mm off top and bottom. 3. While the planks are off, inspect the frame work for signs of decay and treat accordingly (replace decaying timber and coat with something like Waxsol). 4. Time to treat the newly planed planks - buy a piece of gutter slightly longer than your longest decking plank, and 2 end caps. Glue the end caps to either end of the piece of gutter. Pour in your sealer of choice (Woodoc Deck Dressing is not a bad option). Dip planks into the sealer, "wipe" off excess with a paint brush, and allow to dry. This ensures a nice seal all round. 5. Re-install planks with new screws, slightly bigger than your old screws (find out who your local Simpsons Strongtie reseller is, they do a nice stainless decking screw). 6. Treat with a second and third coat of deck dressing. Job done...
