  1. Also been doing some laminating, cut and planed some Meranti offcuts into 40x40 pieces, about 700mm long. Made a few sections of about 700mm wide. Have sliced them into 50mm strips, that I’m now laminating again, to make an end grain butchers block. Want to end up at about 900x600mm Will post more pics as I progress.
  2. I’ve been doing quite a bit of work for corporates, branded, so don’t think it’s appropriate to post, but they’ve been keeping me busy. Did this signboard for a wedding, the couple wanted it at the entrance to the venue. Had a few of these boxes made, and then branded, for a customer who wanted a “fancy” box for the Jenga sets I did for them. The Jenga blocks all have key phrases that the customer uses in their quality management system laser engraved on them.
  3. And this...?

  5. Ride towards the light, with Flippa, at Rietvlei...!
  6. Thaba with Flippa, bumped into Pikey there too! Forgot how tough some of the blue loops can be!
  7. Early morning ride at Rietvlei!
  8. Those handlebars belong to a Hansom tandem that I need to strip and restore, just do t find the time to get to it...!
  9. Sorry about the long wait... Glad your Mrs is happy, as they say, happy wife, happy life. With all of the work you've been doing around the house, you must have an abundance of pink slips!!
  10. I’d advise against pine on an outside deck...
  11. The waterborne Woodoc is really good, especially on Pine, it doesn’t draw the tannins out of the wood as solvent based wood treatments do, so the wood keeps its natural light color.
  12. Should have done it before the rain, you had lots of dry time . If you don't want to preserve the weathered look, my advice is as follows: 1. Contact Somerset Timbers, ask them how much they will charge to plane the wood, they should quote you a rate per meter, R3-50 is a fair price. 2. If the price is acceptable, remove the planks and drop them off at ST to plane. They must just "clean" them, i.e. take 1 - 1.5mm off top and bottom. 3. While the planks are off, inspect the frame work for signs of decay and treat accordingly (replace decaying timber and coat with something like Waxsol). 4. Time to treat the newly planed planks - buy a piece of gutter slightly longer than your longest decking plank, and 2 end caps. Glue the end caps to either end of the piece of gutter. Pour in your sealer of choice (Woodoc Deck Dressing is not a bad option). Dip planks into the sealer, "wipe" off excess with a paint brush, and allow to dry. This ensures a nice seal all round. 5. Re-install planks with new screws, slightly bigger than your old screws (find out who your local Simpsons Strongtie reseller is, they do a nice stainless decking screw). 6. Treat with a second and third coat of deck dressing. Job done...
  13. Sanding this top today made me think of shaping surfboards, which in turn made me think of Tumbles...
  14. Steven, which part of the country are you in?
  15. I’ve been considering this...: https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/ZX2211FULL/planet-x-the-full-monty-alloy-gravel-frameset
  16. We sell a board that would be ideal to clad that hut, it’s a Magnesium Oxide (MgO) board that’s fireproof, insulates well, stands up to the elements, comes in various finishes and thicknesses. Currently we only bring it in in white (as specified by the Gauteng Education Dept for prefab classrooms), but is available in various finishes, including brick, sandstone and wood.
  17. Those who know where this is will know it’s a nasty little climb to get there...
  18. To NSBB’s Bend, at a muddy Rietvlei! Kids hit every puddle, so spent the afternoon washing bikes!
  19. Of course I can help, many options here, but I’ve had an idea for a while, just no opportunity to do it. This sounds like opportunity knocking... Will give you a shout shortly!
  20. Haven’t been to Rietvlei in a while, was pleasantly surprised! Trails are well marked, some of the old sections have been linked to make some really nice trail. Best part of all is the traditionally muddy sections have been bridged, so not too muddy! Very lekker ride!
  21. One of my regrets in my life, selling that bike...
  22. Said I’d post a pic of the final product, so here it is!
  23. My nephew will be driving one of these this racing season
  24. Thanks, I haven’t really looked at options, but the client is happy with the way it has been done now.
  25. Been busy with this project for far too long now, eventually got it finished today. I was worried that with the glass top going onto it, and a vase or two filled with water, that the weight would put too much stress on the half lap joint in the middle of the X (legs are 2180mm end to end, so lots of leverage), so decided to put a steel cable in to support. I’m happy with the final outcome, hope the owner is too, will post a pic once delivered and installed in his entrance hall, with the top on!
