  1. Sorry about the long wait... Glad your Mrs is happy, as they say, happy wife, happy life. With all of the work you've been doing around the house, you must have an abundance of pink slips!!
  2. I’d advise against pine on an outside deck...
  3. The waterborne Woodoc is really good, especially on Pine, it doesn’t draw the tannins out of the wood as solvent based wood treatments do, so the wood keeps its natural light color.
  4. Should have done it before the rain, you had lots of dry time . If you don't want to preserve the weathered look, my advice is as follows: 1. Contact Somerset Timbers, ask them how much they will charge to plane the wood, they should quote you a rate per meter, R3-50 is a fair price. 2. If the price is acceptable, remove the planks and drop them off at ST to plane. They must just "clean" them, i.e. take 1 - 1.5mm off top and bottom. 3. While the planks are off, inspect the frame work for signs of decay and treat accordingly (replace decaying timber and coat with something like Waxsol). 4. Time to treat the newly planed planks - buy a piece of gutter slightly longer than your longest decking plank, and 2 end caps. Glue the end caps to either end of the piece of gutter. Pour in your sealer of choice (Woodoc Deck Dressing is not a bad option). Dip planks into the sealer, "wipe" off excess with a paint brush, and allow to dry. This ensures a nice seal all round. 5. Re-install planks with new screws, slightly bigger than your old screws (find out who your local Simpsons Strongtie reseller is, they do a nice stainless decking screw). 6. Treat with a second and third coat of deck dressing. Job done...
  5. Sanding this top today made me think of shaping surfboards, which in turn made me think of Tumbles...
  6. So last night my plans to ride to the Squash court, play 5 games and ride home again were scuppered by the weather. So I turned on Strava, put my phone in my pocket, and ended up playing 6 games (won 4 to 2)... GPS signal acquired, but "auto stop" has adjusted my total time of 40:44 to 18:39. As I don't have a compatible HRM, I have no heart rate data. So it seems my high intensity, low distance and adjusted time session is going to put me out of the challenge, unless total time will be accepted...?
  7. Steven, which part of the country are you in?
  8. I’ve been considering this...: https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/ZX2211FULL/planet-x-the-full-monty-alloy-gravel-frameset
  9. We sell a board that would be ideal to clad that hut, it’s a Magnesium Oxide (MgO) board that’s fireproof, insulates well, stands up to the elements, comes in various finishes and thicknesses. Currently we only bring it in in white (as specified by the Gauteng Education Dept for prefab classrooms), but is available in various finishes, including brick, sandstone and wood.
  10. Those who know where this is will know it’s a nasty little climb to get there...
  11. I started this challenge with a “Walk - Run on 1 Jan at the Vaal dam. 3 months later, I had a lekker ride at the dam again. Started it as motivation to be more active this year, no goals to loose weight, though I’ve shifted a few kg’s. I’m definitely fitter and stronger, enjoying riding and just being active!
  12. My commutes show as 2 events, 1 To Work and 1 home, I’m not aiming for 365 events, rather, at least 1 event for 365 days.
  13. To NSBB’s Bend, at a muddy Rietvlei! Kids hit every puddle, so spent the afternoon washing bikes!
  14. Of course I can help, many options here, but I’ve had an idea for a while, just no opportunity to do it. This sounds like opportunity knocking... Will give you a shout shortly!
  15. Haven’t been to Rietvlei in a while, was pleasantly surprised! Trails are well marked, some of the old sections have been linked to make some really nice trail. Best part of all is the traditionally muddy sections have been bridged, so not too muddy! Very lekker ride!
  16. Thank you Frosty, saved me a whole lot of time, as your thoughts mirror mine exactly, different goals, different motivation for different individuals. The challenge has motivated me to get into an exercise "habit", some days I also feel that the 20 min walk is not "real" training, but it's better than 20 mins of couch potatoing! You'll see from my activities too that a lot of them happen at strange hours, if it wasn't for the challenge, I'd not do those walks/runs/rides. My general fitness and well being has definitely improved (just ask my riding buddies... ). Dave303e - "365 - 52 rest days for 313" just doesn't have the same ring to it, all the best with your well formulated, balanced training plans, I'm sure that you will attain your goals, as others on this thread are attaining theirs.
  17. One of my regrets in my life, selling that bike...

  19. Said I’d post a pic of the final product, so here it is!
  20. My nephew will be driving one of these this racing season
  21. Thanks, I haven’t really looked at options, but the client is happy with the way it has been done now.

  23. Been busy with this project for far too long now, eventually got it finished today. I was worried that with the glass top going onto it, and a vase or two filled with water, that the weight would put too much stress on the half lap joint in the middle of the X (legs are 2180mm end to end, so lots of leverage), so decided to put a steel cable in to support. I’m happy with the final outcome, hope the owner is too, will post a pic once delivered and installed in his entrance hall, with the top on!
  24. It’s missing bru... ????
  25. Been procrastinating, as I wasn’t sure how I was going to make the cuts, eventually did it the old fashioned way, #nopowertools
