  1. Good news! Be interest to see what happens to the perp, is he in holding cells still?
  2. When that came to light I went over to Hope but the current SLX's are such winner brakes it's a pity you can't service them, crazy to throw all that engineering in the bin just because a rubber seal is vrot.
  3. Where are you finding these on eBay, no one sells Shimano seals for the current crop of brakes that I could find, apparently Shimano doesn't make aftermarket service kits/seals for these brakes?
  4. The way to prevent mechanics hands is to use gloves, the mechanics style close fitting cloth with rubber coating gloves work like a charm. I used to destroy my hands and get those miff black rimmed nails, all a thing of the past , won't work on dirty/greasy stuff without gloves on, also prevents skinned knuckles etc. Effekto make a good pair for R22 from the gardening dept at the hardware store. You using the wrong cleaning agent if you finding it hard to remove oil from your drivetrain, the right tools will solve the problem. Wynns 60 sec mag cleaner takes oil off a drivetrain like water off a ducks back, paraffin is also just as effective especially in a container to soak the chain in, 15mins and a bit of it agitation and sparkly clean and what's left over can be reused over and over.
  5. Plascon paint stripper is about the best but if the paint is epoxy it'll do diddly squat.
  6. 1yr warranty, only applicable to original purchaser with invoice.
  7. Shame man, heal up soon Dirk! Rough move that especially on a busy road in the middle of the day, Sa - never safe.
  8. Hope that a bleed fixes it because Shimano does not sell rebuild kits only complete calipers or levers.
  9. You might be able to knock the pin back in and fit it all back together but from what I understand typically Shimano only sells the lever as complete unit if you need to replace.
  10. This spot sounds legend!
  11. Awesome news, well done for sticking with your gut feel that the deal looked dodgy. So rare in SA for happy endings like this!
  12. But the liter price illustrates what a rip off it is, even the most expensive 100% synthetic high performance engine oils don't even come close to R1100 per liter. 100ml is just a decant into a container that costs max R5 incl the sticker. Just from an interest perspective, what could possibly be in the lube that makes it so expensive?
  13. R1100 per liter of Smoove Lube, what's in there exactly that motivates what appears to be absolutely ridiculous pricing? (Apart from the fact that most of the other bicycle lube manufacturers price like that).
  14. R110 for 100ml?
  15. So how much is this stuff!!
  16. I've found with very tight tyres only try lever off a small piece of the bead like 10mm at a time. You concentrate all the force just on that small piece of bead, slowly the thing pops off, any other way is impossible. Also you need good quality longer tyre levers, not like those pathetically small tyre levers you get as a kit in a saddle bag etc.
  17. Sounds good, how much is it? Hopefully under the typical R750 or more per liter for bicycle chain lube
  18. Shame poor guy, RIP
  19. Cash Crusaders is basically a glorified pawn shop, if you have a presentable ID book they will buy anything from anyone, no questions asked and at the lowest possible price. Ridiculous deals sometimes do crop up from buy backs, ie the guy takes in his expensive bike asks for a R500 loan just to tide him over or buy beers/crack/hit the jol and then circumstances prevents him from getting back in time to pay off the loan, that bike will hit the sale floor for R2000, they want to clear the loan amount, make a quick profit and get the bike sold and off the floor before the owner comes back trying to pay the interest and get the bike back. The bike in that situation will not be priced relative to its real value. But if it's an outright buy, which this situation will be if it's being held for a week before being put up for sale then it may be a sketchy deal. But then again look closely, the bike might be totaled - fork/shock worn out, drivetrain tickets etc and that's why it's there at that price.
  20. Pop the 9mm adapters on and give it a try? Or am I missing something?
  21. Wheelies and bunny hops rely more on transferring your weight backwards than pulling up on the handlebars, once you get your head around that it all becomes much easier. And forget practicing with your saddle at your typical XC race height, put the saddle right down and then try, makes it all much easier.
  22. I'm not 100% sure why but it appears that due to the forces involved the inner channel stops the bead moving laterally and that stops it being able to burp off and weirdly enough they say even better than a typical rim. I'm assuming the bead must need to be able to move inwards in the process of burping and the inside ridge/hump stops that happening. May be all marketing gibberish though.
  23. Was wondering how the hell the tyre bead was going to be held by these rims but they have a bead hump on either side of the center channel of the rim that holds the bead in place, it's inside the tyre once it's mounted not on outside like in typical rims. It makes like a little channel/groove on each side of the rim channel for the bead to lock into.
  24. Try the qr from the other set of wheels and see if that works. I'd take the wheel out and try fit it again slowly/carefully, something is not sitting right, are both the end caps on the Hope hub there and fitted properly I have the same hubs and you do need to crank the qr handle quite tight to make them clamped firmly, not easy at all to release the handle
  25. eBay or Bidorbuy has tons of these things and at decent prices
