  1. If it's pristine or really mint R8k is not bad, if well used but good cond then to much. Bonus on that bike is it's 9-speed so chains and cassette etc cheap as chips.
  2. If it's just the hub and it's a Shimano hub you can replace the cups and ball bearings?
  3. They are not very far and few in this country from recent reports on thehub and the cordless grinder it appears has become the defacto tool for organized thieves. But the key point it seems is the biggest motivating factor is the value of your bike, no lock will stop a thief if the bike is valueable , if it's not terribly valuable then a good lock will help hinder the petty criminals.
  4. Fox striker also at buycycle way better thantheflux and they have some on special for about R900
  5. So Shimano current range of brakes you chuck out and replace lever or caliper when a seal goes but SRAM/Avid you can rebuild right up to XX on the current range? Didn't know that!
  6. Nothing better than thinking a repair will be crazy expensive only to have it fixed for an amount more affordable.
  7. My Velcro pepper spray thing is still going strong, hasn't even remotely come close to falling off. Haven't had to use it yet but it's there if I need it.
  8. So you can rebuild the XX levers calipers, that's interesting?
  9. They have ways of deadening the grinder sound and hiding the sparks, even a brutal lock like these will be cut off in a minute or 2 with little noise, a good chance you'll not be woken up or even disturbed. There was a thread about thieves and a link to how they cut these very locks off, basically no lock cannot be easily removed by a well equipped theif, it's only a deterrent to make the odds slightly less in the thieves favor.
  10. Great news! Let us know how you progress
  11. Apparently you can also turn/flip over single chainrings around when they are worn and use them with the reverse unworn drive face, I tried and it works like a charm, 2x the life out of a chainring.
  12. Apparently these won't stop a battery powered angle grinder, which is a tool popular these days with thieves.
  13. eBay will also have these nice and cheap
  14. Who organized the event? What twit doesn't provide for ample food and beer for the crowd? If it's well put on and advertised it's a pretty decent opportunity to make a good return on the investment, well at least better than nothing, considering the basic race infrastructure has to be put on no matter what. often the food and beverages /entertainments is put out to tender? Was last year maybe a bit of a disappointment in terms of the crowds and the organizers a bit shy of putting in any effort?
  15. True that, thanks man
  16. The crowds were not great, I kept on wondering if it really was a DH World Cup event, all the big names were there but there was min people cheering them on, blind! Was there stuff to pull the oke's in like beer tents and music etc? Apart from the real fans, the general public just wants to come for the spectacle and the jol, if there's not much jol then the hoards don't really rock up.
  17. Only thing that will stop these guys is real pain, like criminal court cases against them, being civilly sued. Right now it looks like they are just riding out a little bumpy patch, no biggie, we pretty much untouchable because the Sa police has got too many murders and fake cigarette importers to be bothered with a few rich guys and their expensive toys. We may be jumping the gun a little bit though, for guys like these the authorities have a way of randomly pitching up at their door with a bunch of warrants when they least expect it, suppose these guys still have many sleepless nights ahead of them, not sure why they don't want to just come clean and make good with the guys they screwed, much easier and cheaper in the long run, even at this late stage of the game.
  18. Those pneumatic wrenches are amazing, great to hear it's finally out, what a relief!
  19. What's the engineering challenge to run a 10t cog?
  20. F0k most of the riders were hitting it at 60-70km , not slow.
  21. What's the product/defect?
  22. Going to cost some horrendous amount. Interesting the front blade ratios are so close and no 10t cog on the cassette means the top end speeds before spinning out for this group is not going to be very high with the highest front blade size being a 38t for 2x and 36t for 1x.
  23. It is a criminal offense to lie to an officer of the law but it is an option I suppose? And as pointed out they can hold you till they can positively ID you.
  24. Only a chain wear checker will tell you that, if the chain is still under the wear limits it's still good to go with the new crankset, same with the cassette. If the chain is way past the wear limits to you should probably change the chain and cassette.
  25. Why would they leave your husbands bike? If there were 4 guys plenty hands to take 1 more bike?
