  1. I like his correction because now I know the correct link to hello peter? Unless you were really wanting to link to a chinese search engine, very helpful on this thread...
  2. Yeah, I am at that point - but, why would they take my order, repeat over several weeks that there is no problem etc - I would have no issue, if they tell you from the start when it is available and when not. Easy as that. Don't confirm an order if you can't commit to the delivery date. (and don't invent your own delivery date...).
  3. Thanks for the reply, appreciated - however: I literally begged your sales staff to issue the full invoice for full prepayment (as the insurance wanted to pay for the bike) - it was not me who didn't want to pay a deposit. You could have had the money in the bank at the point of ordering - even though, learning now how the bike industry seems to work, it wouldn't have made any difference to the waiting period or how your supplier treated my order. Your reply however is just an apology - what I still don't understand is how LBS just accept this? What is your benefit of having a massive Scott stand, if this is how ProBike and at the end of the day Scott treat you? At what point do you tell Probike that happy clients are more important to you than a certain brand on your floor? At the end of the day, the pressure must come from the LBS - reading the other comments here, "back orders" seem to be the common way and my experience has been shared by many. I do appreciate however, that you make the effort in this forum.
  4. yeah, tweeted him this thread, but seems to be out of office... Anyhow, time to forget Scott and start looking for another brand maybe.
  5. yeah was wondering about that - might have better chances to hit a buck than actually being able to buy a Scott bike.
  6. sorry, posted in the wrong forum & not sure how to move into different category.
  7. Hello everyone, am a bit lost, as I am not sure if this is the normal practice. In the last 3 months I have seen all the Scott advertising in bike mags etc - then my Felt MTB died and I decided to buy the 2012 Scott Spark Elite 29 full suspension. Called CWC, called Probike to reconfirm arrival dates of bikes to be second week of October. Placed my order with CWC beginning of September. One can only do a "back order" everyone told me. No paperwork needed, no deposit possible. Should have become aware then already, as nobody wanted to commit clearly. Called CWC today, to be told that the bikes are only available "end of December, if you are lucky". So I asked if it had actually been ordered, Probike rep tells me that only 20 other models were sent. My questions: How does a back order work? Why does nobody want to make a firm order? Why does the importer not make use of his position and actually use some leverage? Are clients expected to just put everything on hold and wait for months, despite the delivery dates they have been assured of? I do like the Scott brand, believe the bike would have been great, but seriously - the shiny presentations and test weekends are pretty pointless, if one can't actually get hold of a bike. I will probably finally get the bike sometime a few weeks before the launch of the 2013 models. Very frustrating. maybe I need to ride into a big buck to receive a Scott.
  8. Ordered the Spark Elite 29 - can't wait! Anyone ridden this full suspension 29er?
  9. What's your view on heterosexual cyclists? WTF. Just ride.
  10. that's why.
  11. agreed. Big egos...
  12. It's probably the same as a Power Balance band. You spend the money after contemplating for a long time knowing that the difference (or not proven), but once you got them, you will feel much better. Also a bit like when I changed to my 29" - not sure if there is actually an improvement but hey... of course it is so much better!
  13. .
  14. Would love to commute by bike, but have two issues: - scared to death, therefore hesitant to start on my own : anyone commuting Edgemead to CBD (Cpt that is...) - hygiene : do all of you have showers at work, how do you do it? Thanks
  15. Hello, does anyone know where in CPT I can have nasty scratches on a carbon frame fixed? Sadly my bike didn't enjoy the Kulula flight that much...
  16. Tyres and shocks were no problem, didn't deflate. Kulula managed to trash the box though and the frame is now partially unpainted, all the way down to the carbon fibres - very sad :-(.
  17. Thanks for the advice - it makes perfect sense. Strange how LBS's don't seem to be that well informed when it comes to this kind of (standard?) question. Will leave as is and am sure it will be fine!
  18. Well, the LBS advises I need to deflate air shock completely as "it will pop the gaskets in the shock" - is this true? I believe the tyres need to be deflated too - isn't the freight compartment on a commercial plane as much pressurized as the cabin? Your advice please, specially on the air shocks. Thanks
  19. You might want to give Meerendal (R25) and Koeberg (flat, but free) a try.
  20. first shower after cycling in the desert for 7 days...

Uuuuhm, looking at the picture in the first post, the fact they they don't work in wet is not really a surprise right? Just bough my 29er crossmarks in Germany, another dump ground for these tires - tried yesterday and am not unhappy!
  22. I happen to be the exclusive importer for some of their products (mainly trailers) - I can chat to them re price, and get a large discount for you, however, a third of that is probably pushing it mate... :-)
  23. Amazing handmade German touring bikes : www tout-terrain.de :-)
  24. Does anyone have any idea intobwhch category a partially assembled kids bike trailer would fall? Bike components? Prams? Anyone imported a trailer before? Thanks.
