  1. time to order Stans from CWC it seems :-)
  2. am missing the link to all active posts, no I can only see the last 10 or so posts in the window - or is this my browser?
  3. Hope he is doing OK! Same thing nearly happened to me two days ago coming down Durbanville road in the fast left turn (opp Hillcrest) - stupid suicidal fowl walking into my lane, it didn't see me coming round the corner. Swerved and was lucky no car was in sight. Chicken didn't know what happened, rider was a bit shaky...
  4. I picked up 2 kilograms over Christmas. Bike still the same.
  5. I got rid off my Felt 29" Nine Elite Carbon HT after last year and got a Scott Spark Elite 29" FS - and what a difference it does to ride comfort! The story about "29er HT is almost like a soft tail" - it is just a story.
  6. Harkerville red route, New Years morning, iphone 3gs, best start into 2012 ever!
  7. still better than not having anything at all, I think. And no, they can't make the lanes into the perfect cycle track.
  8. Great thing about it is that kiddo can sleep properly in this trailer - my boy screams at everything he sees for the first 30 minutes and then passes out for the rest of the ride, which, thanks to 20cm of air shock suspension feels very comfortable, while dad is sweating in the front. his head is stable, no flopping around etc - great solution. Also space for toys, nappy bag etc. Love the trailer, and even do single trail with it.
  9. if you have the cash to spend and want to go seriously riding, this is the Ferrari of child transport: http://www.pro-biketrailer.net/
  10. I saw a convoy of marshals: When I drove to Stellenbosch at 5:30, on the R304, I was doing 110km/h and they decided to overtake, at about 130km/h despite oncoming traffic and on the middle line. About 15 of them, all in full PPA Marshall kit - great for creating understanding for cycling. it's about as successful as us claiming the entire road, "because the wind was so strong"....
  11. +100
  12. just ride, whichever bicycle you want, greet roadies, don't litter and you'll actually enjoy the ride.
  13. has anyone found & tried an iphone handlebar or top tube mount?
  14. Did you win with your Polar - have the same problem: No authorized dealership in CPT can change a battery on a CS300, have to send it to Joburg. Takes 5-7 working days from when it arrives there, then they post it back and charge for it, even though my watch is under warranty. Rubbish service if you ask me.
  15. how does it ride?
  16. talk about road manners - It starts at the top : so I leave from home to drive to the West Coast Express, drive down Plattekloof Road to turn right into Koeberg. Two motor bikes come from the back, drive past me, both drivers in PPA Marshal outfit. They stop at the red robot. It is six in the morning, but there are other drivers on the road, and they turn around to check if I am not a police car. And off they go, straight over the red traffic light, to then make sure that the participants of the cycle race are safe in traffic. boggles my mind...
  17. Yeah, same happened when we finished - and we were group N, where it really doesn't matter, if you are first or not. Except for some tool who decides, despite being told to slow down before the timing mats, that this would be his opportunity. Almost crashing into everyone else...
  18. uuuhm, why?
  19. are you putting it onto a 29er?
  20. "Spent R70K in the last six months..." - should have bought a multitool.
  21. Do you use your car's mirrors or do you turn your head all the time? I don't understand why we don't use mirrors on bikes in this country.
  22. No point taking a "chain repair tool" if you don't carry a spare chain link (the tool is a chain breaker to remove broken links, then insert the spare link and fix your broken chain) :-) Happy riding.
  23. Not sure if pushing your bike will be faster than riding it, no matter which tires you use.
  24. Make sure you have bike insurance. they don't cost the world and most cover the bike while in transit / on airplanes etc. (let me add: if you boxed and padded it correctly)!
  25. I got gears, works like a dream. But this might be the wrong thread for this comment
