  1. Looks fun. Next bike is going to be a much shorter travel trail / AM bike and hopefully back the the Tranny. Will be interesting to see what they do with the Smuggler now as that was a 115 and then 120 travel BCXC style bike for all day riding up and over and then down decent hills. The original downcountry bike. Love Tranny but was sad when they 'grew up' the scout and it lost the manic stupidity of the first one. Same with the Smuggler from V1 to V2 and the SBG / short offset. It kind of killed the thing everyone love about the V1. Still looking for a V1 Smuggler or a V1 Scout for a +1. Interestingly Evil never went that way when they went from the Following to the new Following MB. Head angle stayed 'unfashionable' and didn't slack out and it still stayed as awesome as ever.
  2. That's where the magic happens! will PM you back.
  3. Might just have to throw down a 'wanted ad' for a Medium one of those. Totally forgot they were rocking the real steel!
  4. Dude, that is exactly the frame I was thinking about in the the colour way that is so sweet. That will keep me happy all day. Honestly If i could find one like that at a good price I'd probably shelve the search now... but with gears obviously.
  5. Ha, ha! As if you need to ask. I've locked down any idea of getting a new (or used frame from the UK) at the moment. Not sure why but I've never really had a thing for ragley. That frame though has some great touches with the rear brake mount and rear strut. Good numbers as well and looks so good as a whole bike with a 140mm fork. Current pricing: Frame is £550 and no stock until August. But would you put this over a Cotic SolarisMAX or BfeMAX or a Ribble 725?
  6. Ahhh.... congrats' dude. That looks awesome. Now I know why the guy never got back to me.
  7. Have just checked the difference in goes between the M slide and the Large Slade and the standover is the same on both and to be honest the reach and rest of the main numbers etc are closer to what I ride on my M dualie at the moment. That large full build in KZN might be back on the list!
  8. I've got Elim's front and back they are really great. Happy I swapped out the DHF and chucked the E13 semi slick as that even with the tough casing was poor and caused the first puncture / side wall cut I've had in 4+years. I would love to get back to a Slaughter on the back but Spez are still not making them for 29'rs in anything more than 2.3 (but you can get a 27.5 in 2.6).
  9. Bwahahahaha. I literally had the same answer from a mate the other day when I asked him why he only bought black bikes. Apparently his wife thinks it's the same bike he bought 5 years and 4 bikes ago. He's left his bike to me in his will because 'she'll sell it for peanuts'.
  10. See my fatal mistake was to decide to clear out the shed of all the extra bike parts as I might start hearing *those* voices in my head calling me to N+1... and now I'm still wanting a HT and don't have any bits. So frankly far worse off! Keep looking at the Mrs Fatbike and wondering how much I could macgyver / sell and how much she might notice if it suddenly morphed into to black 29'r HT.
  11. That's the rub. I'm keen on that frame but the frame is the least of it. I did shoot the guys message and haven't heard back from him. If I was going to by a HT I'd like to get something special in steel or Ti and then just build everything across from my dual and run it exclusively for a bit but that frame would be a N+1 and that it's a full build. Hummm... have been hounding Cotic about when their BFEMax would be back in stock and that is going to be December. Ribble are out of stock on their 725 HT, missed the Kingdom sale, Stantons are getting pricey, Hello Daves are very long /slack and allegedly there is a new Cotic SolarisMax happening to soon.
  12. I remember having to take my Tommy Pieterson Fireball fish 5'8" out at Desert Point as I'd broken my proper Indo' boards in the swells before and no one was wiling to share their quivers. Man you had to think fast and I copped some brutal beatings and scored some rash. Picking off the right ones it was a real eye opener. Yeah, trying to get the first bottom turn nursed out before the lip came down or your water skate span off out from under your feet and across the flats was 'interesting' but it made you ride different, use different part of the wave, find speed, realise how far you can actually come back from etc. Kinda like a Hard tail to some degree... shakes up your riding, make you think about the terrain differently, what line you need. Bottom line, with both a small board on a large wave and a HT on a black run, I'm that little more glad with that I've ridden and to be drinking a beer at the end of a day in one piece and not having lost bark to reef or gravel.
  13. I have, I've also been looking at a couple of the Sick Bike stock they had and then sold off but that is well into the long and slack end of things and not sure I want to go all that way. Must actually go back and chat to the Marino guys again now I've got an idea what I'm looking for.
  14. Okay, so come on and give some feedback on the frames, how they ride in WC conditions (Tokai, HB, Conties and Hoogies etc). Also what is the difference between the 2 ST's just the dropouts? And how does that 69 degree head angle go on the rowdy DH's? I'm sizing this up Vs the Cotics (at double the price plus import, tax etc) as it's a darn cheap frame for what it is!
  15. Now that kinda fun is fun!
  16. Phew... would have been a hell of bargain. I was scrambling around for my bank statements as well.
  17. Sorry, have to just wipe up al the drool from the floor.
  18. That fail aside it looks like good kit and I'll be entering the comp for sure! Glad I didn't buy the Australia themed one from https://www.dyedbro.com now!
  19. My kiwi mates swear by them and I can see why. Keen to get into the wilderness with it... but for now I'm going to make a brew at the end of the garden and have the kids wonder why their dad is so weird!
  20. Got Ghillie Kettle / Kelly Kettle / Thermette for my b/day. Was supposed to be a bike packing pressie from the wife along with my Hennesy Hammock tent but turned that the one she bought was the big one so bike packing kit has now gone straight to the camping kit and I'm stoked! Boils up a large amount of water in about 4 minutes just using tinder, leaves etc.
  21. Doping positive for EF rider Villalobos. Positive took place over a year ago (while at another team) and it's not been lodged until now. That is not a great system for Rider, Team or sport. https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/luis-villalobos-provisionally-suspended-after-positive-drug-test/
  22. That is just brilliant. Thanks for kicking my day off in style!
  23. The latest edition of 'Life in the Peloton' with Cam Meyer has some telling comments about the state of the team when they stepped up to WT level. This and the other interviews with former riders /staff along the way seem to point to it all being a bit much, too soon and they never really got on top of it. Until now maybe.
  24. That is a good call. Nice.
  25. I've always loved the lower tier Shimano lists. just rock solid and unbreakable. Perfect to throw into any N+1 build or a rowdy hardtail, just forget about it and ride.
