  1. wonder if the runners who gave there numbers away will then collect there blue numbers when they have done 10 (or should I say 9)
  2. the runners are on the right hand side of the road facing the oncoming traffic, this is where they are supposed to be. It has been mentioned that runners are not allowed on this section of chapmans ..... but that is only after 10am, if im not mistaken this photo was taken before 10am
  3. I don't understand, I thought the sign says that runners are allowed on Sundays before 10?
  4. even in a properly designed, more sustainable, less aggressive culture where that motorist would wait patiently ..... are those cyclists not still being chops by knowingly holding up this motorist when it would be very easy to let it pass. Im not saying they have to move over ..... but would it not be a nice thing to do. Maybe even give the motorist a friendly wave as he/she passes .......
  5. Everyone will tell you that the chest straps are the most accurate. But I am like you, I tried various different straps, changed batteries, spat on them, wet them etc. but I never found one that would work properly. I landed up buying a polar arm band optical monitor and in 3 years have never once had a problem. The only thing I could think is that I sweat very little so even if I wet the thing, me and the strap would be bone dry with in a few minutes. Especially in winter.
  6. Gerda's marathon pb is 10:30 slower than the dutch winner .... so seems pretty much in line then.
  7. ..... and the driver sitting on his cell phone!
  8. Gordon has run quite a few Comrades marathons and done a few Hawaai ironmen so I suspect he is a bit tougher than your average prima donna celebrity
  9. Jees 10:40 on 320km is very impressive I was expecting you to say 11:55
  10. Ive started 2 Comrades and did not finish either one. Started 1 ironman and finished with hours to spare. I guess everyone is different.... im sure it depends on your strengths and weaknesses. Im a way better cyclist than runner. But maybe a good runner that is not a great cyclist would prefer Comrades.
  11. the list of professional cyclists that have had ablations is long stuart ogrady, haimar zubeldia, bobby julich , zdenek stybar Richard murray the triathlete are just the ones off the top of my head
  12. I admit it I am one guilty of being one of the touchy ones I love my ebike .... but definitely wish I still had the option of sticking to the normal bike
  13. and this is the kind of comment that gets to me ..... because you would shake your head at me Im 50 years old and still look very fit and healty (if I may say so myself )
  14. very similar to me, One day I was training for the ironman and running ultra marathons .... 2 weeks later I was in hospital getting a internal defibrillator inserted into my chest. My cardiologist told me (and still does) that I should take up golf or bowls. But I figure an ebike is a good compromise
  15. and sadly when that day comes (and it can happen in the blink of an eye, I know this from personal experience), everyone will assume that you just riding it because you lazy!
  16. good to know dr Dave I regularly hit the limiter on my ebike. but I reckon I will stick to the ebike .... as the cardiac arrythmias I get come and go .... and on a day that the old ticker is acting up the only way im getting home is if I call the wife or get some assistance from the bike
  17. I was at muizenberg beach on monday morning around 8am, pretty empty and quiet at that time. There were 4 Saps guys there making some guy put his dog on a lead ..... while he was throwing a ball around way in the corner of the beach far from anyone else not bothering a soul. Could not help but think that they could be doing something more useful!
  18. I agree with everything you say. The only point I was trying to make with my post is that, just because your gps reads 88.5km it does not mean the route was long. More likely your watch over reading or a number of other factors.
  19. GPS allways over read by a bit .... usually a couple of metres per kilometre, but over a 90km race that adds up. The route is measured with a jones counter which is about as accurate as you can get
  20. The INEOS guy was Cameron Wurf, also a top triathlete, came 5th in Hawaii ironman a couple of years ago. https://www.strava.com/activities/8699950785/overview
  21. yup, they do seem to be a lot more cautious than they used to be. I remember 2012, I think it was, the conditions were terrible but the full swim still went ahead. In those days the swim was 2 laps and now it is 1 big lap .... I wonder if that makes a difference with regards safety
  22. I see there were only 651 starters today. When I did it in 2014 there were 1900 or so. That is a big drop off. Ps. That is just for the full
  23. I sold my road bike and got a gravel bike. But then I also bought a nice set of road wheels, Im pretty sure this set up is as fast as my old road bike ..... and way comfier. I do enjoy going away on weekends and riding gravel though ..... as some one else said no use getting a gravel bike unless you going to go ride gravel!!
  24. Dave there are lots of different reasons people ride ebikes I for one have a heart condition so can not go over 120 bpm heart rate. I can ride all day if I want to, But whether im riding 10km or 150km, a bit of assistance on steep climbs is necessary. Anyways your assumption that everyone riding an ebike is just not dedicated enough or that cycling is not that important to you is small minded and irritating!
  25. I got over this type of thing about 20 years ago when they increased the cut off times of the Comrades and Two Oceans by an hour. And then even worse when people did the two Oceans half marathon and said they did Oceans. Then I realised that these type of things are really just our own personal challenges that dont actually mean anything to 99% of the earths population anyways so you really should not care what anyone else is doing or says they have done!
