  1. TOUR DE TULI 2012 REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW OPEN Tour Dates: Thursday 02nd August 2012 to Tuesday 07th August 2012 Minimum Sponsorship Donation: R18 000.00 per cyclists (this includes the mandatory emergency evacuation insurance) -------- i know a lot goes to the community, but this is a little OTT considering the Sani is R4800 and that also goes to supporting the local community?
  2. Wednesday morning from Engen on the corner of Main and William Nicol... theres a mtb rides through Kylami and past Lonehill... u can cut across to Broadacres if u want from there. Leaves at 5am sharp. Also on Friday, they ride to Greenside and down the Spruit, and up through Paulshoff... u can ride home from there... also leaves at 5am sharp.
  3. Dont shoot the messenger here, but i believe the Superfly series (2011 model... they have made improvements on the 2012 model) have had a lot of problems with their BB and bottom pivot system, and the Santa Cruz Tallboy frames are prone to cracking around the seatpost area.... all the rest are pretty good.
  4. Specialized s-works Epic... they are launching the 2012 frame soon, so you can pick up a 2011 frame at a good price. Also u keep the global warranty now if a Specialized agent builds it up for u. Cant get much better than that!! The RRP on the frame is aprox $4500.
  5. Fractured wrist? The lengths people will go 2 to get your attention? Shame he did look a little battered and cut up but i didnt think anything was broken.
  6. Anybody know what the problem is with the results? I see SS has all the other race results out for ystd.
  7. I think if u took all the jackets, food, drink & snacks, water tables etc etc into account this year, we actually got more than what we paid for the entry... i can only imagine what next year will be like. Aside from the entry proces (complete bugger up), this is the best race value for money wise i have ever done... and i've done a fair few.... and thats besides the awesome racing track provided ever year.
  8. I was entered my details in at 12, and it kept giving me an error. I have now just received the wait listed screen. This is a joke!!!
  9. My thoughts exactly. They say there is 800m ascent in 45km.... thats not exactly flat
  10. Whats this race like? Does anyone have th 45km profile at all?
  11. Is this a 1 day or 2 day event?
  12. did they say what will become of the place? Its a great venue and a huge loss to MTB!!
  13. i have 2 agree... someone is going to bugger this one up.. I wonder where its going to stop...mmm... I bought the frame on auction for R20k so work it from there.
  14. See if you can find a good second hand DT SWiss rim with Hope Hubs... new they are about R6k to R7k. At 77kg you want a slightly more robust rim, so stay away from the ZTR or AC rims. (a lot of rims have weight limits near 80kg's) Some good builders who might be able to help you would be Tim Kock from Complete Cyclist, and Ruan at FPC in Paulshof. If you want a set of Mavic 29er Rims, i have a new set that may be up for sale... i built a Hope\DT set for myself so the Mavics not doing much (they only did the Sani2C)... personally though i like the Hopes
  15. So the question is who is at fault... if a rider gets lost for not noticing a board thats just tough luck on their behalf (cant claim to win anything then), but if a race administrator guides you in the wrong direction, then you cant fault the rider? Awarding the front runners the win is justified.... its not like anyone else was going to beat them had the organisation been correct?
  16. Think we should have tough 1 day races in SA. Just a comparison of what the pro's do in Europe vs some of our races here!!!
  17. Apologies if this is already known, but who won in the end, and what was the winning time. As for the event itself, i consider that one of the better rides around J'burg. Well done. The only issue was right at the top of the first climb the grass hid the route slightly, but otherwise all marking were good. Someone prior mentioned water tables. I will confess i missed the first one completely and was wondering whether there were any. I believe it was at the 40km split, but must have had my head down at the time. Good event. Thanks.
  18. Well the bike shops are expecting it to be pretty closely priced to the offshore RRP.... but we've all heard that before? You can get it shipped in at about R20k no problem, so i guess the pressure will be on them to match upto that.
  19. Closer to R20k. But that has still to be verified by the local distributor/importer. Looking at most other brands they will probably put a 'little' premium on it as soon as it hits the shelves. I figured all in with X0 and ZTR wheels its going to be R45k.
  20. Frame price currently $2500... should be pretty close to that in ZAR terms i believe.
  21. Had the same problem on my old bike. We found that the alignment of the wheels was out ie. if you look at the bike from behind, the back wheel was marginally to the left of the front wheel. Problem is that u cant fix that problem. It was just a design defect on the frame.
  22. Might be a little on the expensive side, but if you read the reviews you will see its well worth the price... The BROOKS saddles Top: Black, Honey, Brown Rails-Weight: Titanium 360gr Width: 153mm Length: 287mm http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=11654
  23. I have the XTR 2X10 on my 29er HT. Front is a 44/30 Back is a 11/36 No problem climbing the steepest hills on Sani2C, and with the marathon races we have here the 44 / 11 flies. With a 39 in front you are going to struggle to stay with guys running a 42 unless you have great cadence.
  24. its quick with only 1 climb that's fairly gradual. 2 Loops of 30km which are over before you know it. Really good single track. Only really got caught up with the 30km riders at the end of the second loop so they weren't really a factor, and those we did pass were courteous enough to give us track. Might not be everyone's cup of tea as its fast and reasonably flat, but a really fun day out.
  25. any recommendations for an orthopedic surgeon for shoulders? preferably in the Sandton area?
