  1. Don't have a carbon bar myself - only what I heard. I am more than happy with my alu bars as it is.
  2. Not sure about performance but I have heard that carbon can help with absorbing ride chatter/buzz to some extent.
  3. Never been to Ireland and after seeing the 2010 photo's I am really keen - looks like a proper jol
  4. Set up like my motorbike - front brake/right hand otherwise I tend to get confused
  5. Are you lost - why would you need a GPS on a bike?
  6. I have the money to buy any light I want and still buy the Magic - never had any problems so fark Fastbike
  7. Yes and Yes
  8. Pedal pusher, Is the Spot-on-bikes your business? If so you are probably the person I should be talking to in terms of this build, can you PM me so that we can talk via email?
  9. Don't know if I would go with the Carbon frame for the type of riding I do but I am interested in the Titanium frame the On-One will be bring out soon. Funny feeling that both are going to be pretty expensive though? I have an RST fork (don't think it is the M29 though)on the GT Peace and it does the job adequately for me as well. The RST's seem to get good reviews on mtbr's site - guess shock feel etc is almost as controversial and a matter of personal choice as with saddles That is a very sweet looking Niner
  10. No problem with all the hijacks - as Eldron correctly says it is education. The problem posing an open ended question like I did is that where I was looking at two options I now have four frames/bikes to consider and three different wheel sets. I will have look at the Giant today (read the Tread article but don't have it here with me) and will wait in anticipation for the Momsen detail to be posted. Thanks to everyone for some constructive and informative comments all the same
  11. Had a look at the Momsen as well (was on my short list) - I especially like the green and white combo. Main problem IMO is it is a new frame - no-one has ridden it and no where can I find any ridden reviews/opinions on the bike
  12. Any pic's available - gather they are not listed in the classifieds as I could not find them. See you rate the American Classic as well (one of the for sale threads)- how do yours and the AM's compare?
  13. I only found mention of 26" wheelsets on the website? Can you give me some links to reviews as well please
  14. Don't know them at all - give me some time to find out more and will get back to you
  15. What is your price on the AM's (including shipping - I am in Pta)?
  16. Thanks all - especially the info regarding the shock. What is the travel on the Reba - wouldn't think that I need much more than 100mm, if not 80mm? I think I am slowly leaning towards the Scandal - there is a great looking one on the Show your mtb thread (Boris?) Think there are only British green available in the Scandal at the moment and have not yet decided if I like the color or not. I do think the EMD in the red tamale looks pretty hot though. Another question: XT or American Classic wheels? Personally think the XT's will hold up a little better, not that my wife has ever had a problem with her AC's (I am a little more "wild" I guess). Weight is not a real issue - probably achieve far more by losing some of me rather than the bike?
  17. I have pretty much decided on one of the above two frames for building myself a 29er. Only 29er experience I have is my GT Peace SS. Need help in deciding between the two though - not too concerned in the relatively small price difference between the two frames - more interested in handling, geometry, comfort and enjoyment factors. Prefer doing trail type riding, marathons (60 - 80km) and multi-day stage races (80 - 100km a day), not really interested in XC. Will definitely be putting on a shock up front (probably a RST M29 but no final decision as yet)and SRAM X9 groupset, the rest of the build is still up in the air. Any opinions from guys who have ridden both or either would be appreciated.

  19. That is one sweet looking ride. Also been looking at getting an On One - how is she specced?
  20. Agree with Sage. I am also an average (slow?) rider who has no interest in joining a club or belonging to CSA, as it is I do almost no races. I ride for the pleasure of being out in areas where most people don't go and don't see how belonging to either of the groups above enhances/improves this for me. Licences and road safety were probably the main reasons I stopped riding on the road ten years ago and decided to rather do mountain biking.
  21. Thanks for all the advice guys. The bike is second hand and definitely has the EBB. I had a ball on it when I was home now and used it far more than the dually (3:1 ratio at least). Have to learn all those technical skills though that you get away with when riding a dually. Being more than a little challenged in the handyman skills department I will probably have to see this being done to ever understand and do it myself. Unfortunately I work out of the country and will only be back in December. Also thought I heard the hubs "pinging" when riding (especially under torque)- does that indicate imminent failure or is it normal (has stock wheel set on)? Are there any technically minded single speeders or knowledgeable lbs in the Pretoria/Centurion area? I don't fancy sending the bike in to a lbs where the work/maintenance is a bit of guess work on the part of the technician?
  22. Sell both and get a single speed 29er
  23. Have just bought myself a GT Peace SS and need some help: Where would I find the correct lock ring tool for changing the gearing/cassette gear at the rear? The local lbs had a tool but did not match and they had no success in finding something suitable; I am unable to find very little info with regards the EBB used in the bike and would appreciate any help on how it works, maintenance requirements, tips for use etc; Are there any knowledgeable single speeder's in the Pretoria area that could show me the ropes with regards the basic maintenance/service requirements
  24. Savlon or Dettol rubbed into the lower legs - works like a bomb
  25. Personally - couldn't care less where it comes from as long as it is cheaper and the service is good
