  1. Just you wait until they are varsity students.....have late nights, party too much, want to sleep late with a hangover......and you can chase them and beat them again. True story........but they learn quickly and become more difficult to catch with those wiley coyote tricks!
  2. ...........I'm more of a lover than a fighter..........😉
  3. South African sailor comes to rescue of Finnish veteran in Golden Globe Race (msn.com) Saffa doing great stuff!
  4. "Serious" cyclists look down at tyre liners, but they WORK! And they probably work better than a dodgy tubeless setup at avoiding flats.
  5. https://www.africansnakebiteinstitute.com/courses-2/ For anybody interested in learning something useful and perhaps overcoming that somewhat irrational fear of snakes
  6. The cops' driving skills have not improved since then. Just in the last week I saw two traffic cops jump a red robot.........no blue lights or sirens, so no emergency. One cop bakkie with a dead headlight. One cop car changing lanes without indicating......... and the list goed on.
  7. As said above, when the road was totally rebuilt, it initially had plans for a cycling lane. Ratepayers screamed blue murder because they would losetheir off street parking and the City capitulated..........and THAT is why said ratepayers now regularly have to see dead and maimed cyclists in the road while they park their cars (please recognise the hyperbole).
  8. A father and son that do stuff together and enjoy it - the stuff lifelong priceless memories are made of!👍
  9. JMK1
  10. The brake squeal was a bit ott.😜
  11. Yup. Total fail that. Probably thought up by a city transport guy who went on a nice paid for holiday to the Netherlands, then thought he could make a cycling lane with a lick of green paint in a lawless place and people would suddenly behave like the Duch........was never gonna work, not with Capies!. Not with Saffas. Here moats, ramparts, walls, barbed wire, electric fences and angry dogs don't even keep peeps in line. Green line? Ha Ha!
  12. For a second or three I thought you bought a classic Colnago........sooo disappointed 🤪 Just kidding😁
  13. If you REALLY want to experience invisibility, come and ride around the Salt River Circle with me🤪
  14. More punishment ideas: A week of daily queues at Home Affairs, SARS, Post Office, Traffic Department and the day clinic at any state hospital of the victims choice.
  15. Heard the Radio Sonder Grense thing this morning on my way to work. Amazing how something like this can snowball with modern day media. Truly hope the bully gets identified and made to pay. My guess is that it is not the first time in his life that he took his frustrations out on others in such a violent way. I say, better for him to get caught NOW , because the next time may well be a road rage incident that ends up even worse.
  16. Ticks are particularly bad at the moment. Picked more than a dozen off myself after a visit to Faircape recently. Yes, after a foray into the chrubs. Then, while driving home I picked off another half a dozen. And, stripped naked at home another half a dozen while I put my clothes into the washing machine with an extra dollop of soap. Next morning, on the way to work, more climbed on me while driving. Squished 3. Fumigated the inside of the car before using it again. Now have a whole lot of itchy bitemarks all over. Slowly getting better and no sign yet of tickbite fever. Didn't enjoy that the previous time. I feel like trying out my dogs medication again.........
  17. I would guess that some of the minerals in the drink (it has both sugar and salt in it) got on the frame and then dried out and formed crystals in the rough surface of the matt. That is what shows up as white. I would wet it thouroughly with clean water, perhaps even keep it wet for a hour or so with a wet rag or cotton, then brush gently with a toothbrush and blow on it with compressed air and rinse at the same time. The idea is to dissolve the crystals and then rinse it away and dry. If dry and the spots remain, then I would guess that it might have had some kind of chemical interaction with the paint?
  18. Some would say that you should be more worried about the pink spots than the white spots! 😜
  19. Steel runs on beer😉
  20. Agreed, Velobrien is the place to go. I do all kinds of leather stuff myself, but I take my saddles to them. Always awesome work.
  21. 👍You interested in becoming our minister of police? I'll vote for you!
  22. I used to to 2 things: On my direct route I always obeyed traffic signs and stopped when and where I was supposed to, then raced like mad for the next stop. It made a short commute into a high intensity interval training session and it worked like a bomb. I also added a bit of the scenic route, especially after work, to add distance. Sadly, my only safe route to work (from a traffic point of view) has now deteriourated into running a gauntlet of homeless encampments, pee, poo and muggers and I no longer feel safe doing it alone.
  23. I found it delightful how much more fellow riders were willing to engage when you are riding a tandem with a youngster as stoker. Many many people pulled up alongside for a friendly chat and some encouraging words. The young ones also enjoy the encouragement and the attention. But one word of warning, do NOT allow your young stoker to wear a superhero outfit that includes a cloak .......... behind your back, sooner or later they will make a parachute out of it when you are killing yourself into a headwind and by the time you find out what the problem is you'll be near death.🤣
  24. I have VERY bad flashbacks about being a passenger in an Alouette with a pilot trying to mow the African savanna into a lawn. Come to think of it, maybe that's why the acasia trees were all so very flat topped? (But NOBODY saw us on their radar.)😜 Those Mils were not very friendly either.
  25. Yup, one of the greatest things I did with each of my sons was to ride their first Cape Town Cycle tour (and a good few other races too) with them on a tandem. I still regret selling it because now I can see that it could be great fun to do it again after they have done about 10 each. Also, the day will come (hopefully not too soon) when they can pull me around and I'll relax as the stoker taking pictures (mostly selfies) like they did way back then!
