  1. We had someone go to their actual offices and they appeared to be closed. Just asked here - customers - to find out if anyone has had any issues.
  2. I haven't bought from Buycycle in a long time - I see the site is still up, but a friend said they have actually closed down? Has anyone had a recent buying experience with the business? Or is it really overs?
  3. My beautiful (to me) RM Element carbon FS stolen from Island Lake Caravan Park near Wilderness, WC, on night of Sunday 21 or morning of Monday 22 November 2021. She is an unusual build - large frame, with 27.5 wheel set. Selle Italia saddle. Rockshox front.
  4. I feel your pain. Friends look at me sideways when I ask if they're putting their bikes away while camping. Hope you get your Ghost back.
  5. Very excited about this event, back on the calendar!
  6. I love my Osprey ... I used to have a CB Lobo but my Osprey (see www.ospreypacks.com - they are distributed by Adventure inc here) is a hydration system in another class. Love the easy fill mechanism. Also covered by an awesome guarantee., as is all Osprey stuff.
  7. Yes Yes Yes Yes Do it! Wish there were more of these kinds of events around.
  8. Seems like a bike trader of sorts - check out Handle Bar's other ads on GT.
  9. Admin, please delete this thread ... somehow I made a duplicate ... sorry!
  10. Thanks Rouxtjie. We'll be Underberg side - heading up towards Mooi River, and down towards Ixopo. That kind of area ...
  11. My hub and I will be, bike-less, in the southern Drakensberg in mid-June for a few days - anyone have any recommendations for a tour company or trail (with bike hire maybe) that could show us Kaapenaars around a bit?

  13. My hubby had this happen to his XT free hub a few weeks back. I don't know which model it is (code) but someone in the industry said it's a 'common problem' at present. He thought it was related to him being a big guy but its interesting about the issue possibly being the larger wheels. We are waiting for feedback from Coolheat via the LBS.
  14. This isn't a race, remember. If you want a tougher option to race then the Arabella Challenge will probably do it for you.
  15. Hubby and I did this last year. Signed up again for the 2014 ride. Loved every moment. Hard work but worth it
  16. Look up Cycle Knysna group on FB (also see Cycle George for options). Ultimate Cycling and Coaches Corner also do rides.
  17. Give Cornerstone Cycles a call (they're in Paarl) - I was referred there by Supersport Cycles (which distributes MET etc.) Any store with an account/relationship with Supersport can order in for you though. supercyc@icon.co.za
  18. Great topic. I also battle with right turns, whether going up or down, so the advice of posters here is very welcome.
  19. Please please avoid using tobacco in your garden. It's really toxic - you may as well chuck pesticide on. There are so many other options that are bad for 'bad' bugs but don't kill off the good guys too.
  20. I LOVE veggie gardening. I refuse to buy herbs - specially basil and coriander. They grow so easily - rocket is a weed! And there is nothing like your own chard, beans, toms etc fresh from the garden. I have grown asparagus from seed - and have three generations going. Lots of spears - asparagus tastes like fresh peas when picked out the garden, and doesn't make your pee funny like the bought stuff. I use raised beds as we have mole rats here. And irrigation - timer etc. We have the odd bird and mouse but there is enough for everyone. No pesticides. I use worm tea made from own worms - and I have a friend who supplies magic moo poo to amp up the nutrients from time to time. Seeds are generally bought from Living Seeds or Sought After Seedlings or Gravel Garden. Mojoman - thanks for the pic of the garden. Nicely done!
  21. Spotted this letter to the Hermanus Times this week and thought the original writers would be interested (I re-typed it so excuse errors.): I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Hermanus Provincial Hospital for the caring efficient treatment I received. On 30 July I was cycling towards Hermanus on the R43 intending to turn into Lynx Avenue. [This is the first turning right after Hawston corner, into Vermont.] Checking that there was a large truck some distance behind me, I moved into the dedicated right turn lane. While I was in that lane I was hit by a 4x4 travelling towards Hermanus. His exterior rear-view mirror apparently hit my helmet rendering me unconscious. When I awoke four days later I was in Hermanus Hospital. I had been brought in by ambulance, stabilised, sent to Tygerberg Hospital for tests and referred back to Hermanus Hospital. Everything at the hospital was efficient, respectful and caring for which I am extremely grateful. For the past three months I have been and still am an outpatient, for dressings at first and then for physiotherapy, which is still needed, but is progressing well. All in all, it turned out much better than I could have expected. In closing may I point out that I am 73 years old and conscious of the fact I could have died during this period if I was not properly handled. Thank you, Hermanus Hospital. Don McDonald [This august gentleman has perfected the art of understatement. Never mind that he could have simply been flattened and squashed into the next life by that 4x4. I'm so glad he's ok-ish.]
  22. Kommetjie Road - while it may look like a 'suburban' road it's known for the carnage caused by drivers going too fast. Accident after accident after accident - specially round about 17th Avenue. Every sort of traffic calming method, barring speed humps, seems to have failed. Hope the cyclist is ok. So sorry that this has happened. Again.
  23. Story about the accident at http://www.peoplespost.co.za/87707/news-details/teen-cyclist-survives-truck-hit Glad that Marliena is alive - sjoe!
  24. Also look at Osprey Packs. I used to have a CB Lobo but now I'm firmly an Osprey fan. They also have an awesome guarantee.
